Some things in life are inevitable. Death. Taxes. The moon falling from the sky and obliterating the world. And of course, remakes of popular video games.

With the recent announcement of Majora's Mask 3D, Nintendo manages to cover the entire list. (Unless your video game prices don't include sales tax, in which case, lucky you.)



Thankfully, it seems that this will be no lazy remake. According to a recent interview with Eiji Aonuma, work on Majora's Mask 3D began in June 2011 shortly after development on Ocarina of Time 3D wrapped up.

With any luck, this means we'll be getting Majora's Mask 'Master Quest'. Feel free to post any new info in this thread as it comes to light.

Hehe. Looks like Nintendo will probably piss off a lot of people no matter what they do with this port... I can imagine there are going to be a lot of people who refuse to buy it if they don't tread carefully. They've had plenty of time to work on this, so hopefully they included a classic mode that leaves all of the original mechanics intact.

@Jargon That already exists, it's buying any game that isn't Majora's Mask.

@Shadowlink I'm sure people make that argument about the ten games included in my poll as well. Besides, it's "despised classics," it's just a contradiction to try to be funny.

@Zero The original N64 game already is the Hardcore Elitists Edition. Those people can just stick with that.

Man, MM has been getting a looooot of internet love ever since that creepypasta came about. NW is definitely the most "down" I've seen a community on the game; otherwise, checking out places like NeoGAF around the time of the Direct resulted in many, many people being insanely hyped for it.

@TriforceBun I have no idea what "creepypasta" is.

I'll bet that if a remake were announced of most of the games in my poll, most people would be excited. People seem to like games better with time, like what happened with Wind Waker for example.

Yeah, I've seen people straight up refer to the creepy Link statue as "Ben" now. Haha.

There's also been some really great analyses on the game's story throughout the years. There does seem to be a lot of unique depth to it and interesting interpretations. I can't think of any other Nintendo game that has such heavy moments. Even if the game design isn't your cup of tea, I think there's a lot to love about the presentation. I'd love another dark entry in the series like it.

Personally I find it tough to get excited about ports. Remakes. Whatever you want to call them when not much new is added.

I'm sure we can pick just about every 3D entry apart... they've all been far from flawless. I feel the same way about Wind Waker after the HD port as I always have: lots to love, lots to hate, great action-adventure title overall with some beautiful visuals. Hopefully Zelda U finally gets the overworld right. If Aonuma doesn't puss out and the game really ends up having an open nature modeled after the NES original, it might end up being my new favorite.

OoT probably is the least-controversial of all the 3D Zeldas, to be honest, between MM's structure, TWW's art and sailing, TP's similarities to OoT, and SS's controls.

Nintendo Rep: So, you want a realistic, down-to-earth Zelda... that's completely off-the-wall and swarming with magic robots?
