Site FAQ (also, DONATIONS, BUGS and REQUESTS)

Welcome to Negative World. If you have any question, please read the following list and click to read an answer. If your question isn't in the list or if you have a suggestion, feel free to post a reply.

To be able to add more questions/answers to the list later, your participations to this thread will eventually be deleted to make room, after they've been answered.

Donations

Currently, the site doesn't bring in much money, and it costs about $85 a year to keep up. Not a whole lot, but the owner of this site isn't particularly rich, so every bit helps. Also, the web designer spent a lot of time and work to implement skins, navigation layout, make the site work quick and neat, and implement the options you asked him, all this instead of doing a paid professional site. The more you support the site, the better it'll run and the more potential its future will have.

I had the same problem when trying to change the skin. I had to type the password in both the "password" and "verify" boxes in the Profile Edition page. Using the latest Firefox.

Hmm, just upgraded to Firefox 6.0.2 and it still works ok for me. I hate bugs that I can't reproduce on my machine. I'll have to dick around in the code and see if anything is standing out. Either that or go find another machine and see if I can reproduce the bug.

Alright try it now.

Actually though I'm kind of worried. I'm not sure what it is sending that makes the password and verification not match up. Do you also get this issue if you leave your password blank (for instance to change your email?) I hope whatever this mysterious thing it is sending doesn't somehow become your new password at some point. Although, as long as the two fields AREN'T matching, that shouldn't happen, but this still bothers me.

I guess longterm I should just strip password out of that form and make changing your password its own form that isn't connected to the others.

I know, but really moving forward... do you really want to keep creating images for every new thing that I add? Because I'm no graphic designer and I really can't make new graphics every time I do something. I'm trying to think of a way to make it easier to move forward without the need for so many new graphics every time something is added/changed/etc. but without uglifying the site in the process.

Yeah enormous work... I'm probably going to do it though. Just not right now, I'm student teaching so basically I have no free time. Once I'm done with student teaching I'll have tons of free time again.

Would it be beneficial to have a new "Rented" option when adding to your game collection? I know its not a part of your actual collection (and shouldn't be used in any collection stats) but it would be nice to remember all the games you once played.
09/19/11, 04:01
Just rate the game and don't add it to your collection. You'd never rate a game you haven't played.

No one would do that.

@Secret_Tunnel

True, I could do that but then I'd be rating some of the games I've only played for a few hours. I wouldn't want that to skew stats.
09/19/11, 06:04
@Secret_Tunnel Two people are doing that now with Skyward Sword.
09/25/11, 09:33
They must work for Nintendo.

Don't we all?

I have an idea about recent citations. Each user could have a link that automatically executes a Reply Search for their own username. I just did that to see which threads people replied to me or mentioned me in, and it worked pretty well.

Hello everyone! Had a quick look at the FAQ and there isn't a mention of sub-forums. Was just wondering if it was possible to add them to the forum because it seems a little too chaotic with all the threads bunged in together. Having sub-forums would mean that it'd be easier to find particular topics of interest...particularly when it comes to individual consoles. I'm going to get myself a 3DS soon and also have an interest in the U but having to trawl through pages looking for relevant threads or using the search function is a bit of a pain in the bum lol.

Great site though!

@Simbabbad Yeah I know it is a huge project. Hence the putting it off until I actually have time. It may be awhile, but thanks for the offer, I may end up taking you up on it.

@Abdooooo Hmm, the problem is "rented" is just one way to play games you don't own... borrowed, stole, had and lost, yada yada so many other options. There would need to be one word to contain all possibilities. Not sure what that would be. Personally when I borrowed a game I just rate it without putting it into my collection. Then you can still see everything you have played by checking the ratings you have given out. You could also add it to your log.

@snowdog We go back and forth on this idea but honestly at the moment the forum isn't "fast" enough to really require sub-forums, for the most part all active discussion are on page one. There are various ways to filter your forum results though, if you check the "Search ?" thing at the top right you can filter by keyword, type, level, author, etc.

Can we make so we can be logged in on more than one computer at a time? Having to input my password every time I get into the office and every time I come home is pretty annoying.
10/29/11, 03:01
@Het_Nkik That's the problem? I go from my phone to my laptop and back again all the time and I have to relog all the time. I second this, if possible.
10/29/11, 03:23
Would it be possible implement a way of sorting games by console in the Games Database? I don't mean as a filter, I mean as a way of grouping. So I could look at all of my "Wanted" games and just scroll down the list with Wii games towards the top, DS further down, etc..
10/30/11, 03:03
Nothing is being marked as read for me. Started about two hours ago.
10/30/11, 03:10
@Secret_Tunnel

I agree this would be very useful. Currently this column (labeled 'On') is one of the only columns you can't sort by using the small black 'down' and 'up' arrows like you can with the other columns (Game title, score rating, etc.).

It's not a big deal, but I just noticed today that the times here are off by an hour. I'm assuming that it has something to do with Daylight Saving Time ending, but it doesn't end till next weekend.

It's different everywhere.
