Site FAQ (also, DONATIONS, BUGS and REQUESTS)

Welcome to Negative World. If you have any question, please read the following list and click to read an answer. If your question isn't in the list or if you have a suggestion, feel free to post a reply.

To be able to add more questions/answers to the list later, your participations to this thread will eventually be deleted to make room, after they've been answered.

Donations

Currently, the site doesn't bring in much money, and it costs about $85 a year to keep up. Not a whole lot, but the owner of this site isn't particularly rich, so every bit helps. Also, the web designer spent a lot of time and work to implement skins, navigation layout, make the site work quick and neat, and implement the options you asked him, all this instead of doing a paid professional site. The more you support the site, the better it'll run and the more potential its future will have.

Could we have some sort of way of "liking" something we read? Spending so much time on sites like Reddit and Facebook always makes me want to give nods to messages that I enjoy but don't necessarily have any response for.

I would like this comment if I could.

Turns out that because of the podcast and stuff, I have a lot of PMs. It would be nice to have a more efficient way to organize them. Like, folders or something.

@Guillaume I had kind of wanted this in the past too, I had hoped that Simba would have revamped private messages more but he was doing a ton of stuff so he couldn't fix everything perfect.

As it stands though revamping would be kind of a big project. Something I want to do eventually.

@Zero

...on your day off tomorrow.

As you create the best Boogerman remix ever.

Seriously, Zero, WTF. Get crackin'.

@sirmastersephiroth I totally have plans for this, although I would first probably open it up as a discussion and see what the potential negatives could be. The only thing I can think offhand is some people might think it is more about popularity than quality of the posts, etc. and feel a bit left out if they are a n00b and no one is "like"-ing their stuff.

It would also make it so that positive threads are always near the bottom of the page, where debate threads are always getting bumped constantly.

"Hm, what does Triforcebun have to say about Donkey Kong Country Returns? Yup, I agree!" *Clicks like*

"Hm, what does Deerock have to say about the 3DS' web browser? Oh, what the hell!?" *Posts furiously*

Maybeeeeeeee. But I don't think it would change people's posting habits too much.

I don't think.

@Zero I think that another negative would be that if people are able to like something, they'll probably just like it and never comment, just like what happens in Facebook most of the time.

A whole bunch of PMs I sent are nowhere to be found on my "sent messages" page...
Posted: 08/11/11, 23:30:49
@Simbabbad

Ah, that makes sense. I think whoever I was PMing said that they deleted those messages.

Please do NOT implement a 'like' feature. This is a forum, not facebook. Discussion of digested content should be encouraged, not sent to its grave. I already don't post as much as I should, the last thing I need is a feature that pushes me more towards the 'lurk' side.

Earendil likes this post.

@Earendil

LOL.

But even that's better than a like button!

It has come to my attention that we cannot post reviews at a level any lower than '99' (for collaborative proof reading), nor can we make a normal post at a lower level and then change to a public review.

I would like to suggest that one of those methods be implemented in the future, preferably the former.

Is everyone else having issues with embedded YouTube videos being muted / unmuteable?
Posted: 09/01/11, 01:56:42
@Mr_Mustache Not to my knowledge. I did have an interesting problem. I put up a video in my review for Castlevania: Circle of the Moon and the video was taken down two days later because the user deleted his account. I don't think anyone here noticed that I had to change the video, though.

I just click on the skin and it changes right away, like always.

@Simbabbad I implemented one way encryption such that it is (theoretically) impossible for anyone to get the user's password. Including the me / the code. So of course I had to change the way updating the profile worked since before it just resent the old password along with everything else it resent. Which reminds me, I need to finish the password reset functionality.

I'm not having any trouble changing skins though. But that part of the verification is JavaScript which is often interpreted very differently depending on the browser, I think. Which browser are you using? I tested it on IE, Firefox, and Chrome and it is working (for me) on all of those.

Wait, your password and verification didn't even match? Hmm. You didn't accidentally type something into one of the boxes, did you? It's weird that it would say they didn't match if they were both left blank.
