Currently, the site doesn't bring in much money, and it costs about $85 a year to keep up. Not a whole lot, but the owner of this site isn't particularly rich, so every bit helps. Also, the web designer spent a lot of time and work to implement skins, navigation layout, make the site work quick and neat, and implement the options you asked him, all this instead of doing a paid professional site. The more you support the site, the better it'll run and the more potential its future will have.
I don't think enough people are interested in gameswapping to necessitate the switch. Its a good idea though.
-Maybe so, but this would surely promote the thing. Just take this example:
You just came back from one of your friends & he had "Super Galaxian Awesome" for his Wii 5000 & you played it all night and had alot of fun. Coming back home you go to NW's database to add it to your "Wants" and you see that Guillaume has is copy available for swap. So you send 5000 rupees to Zero & then the Princess is saved for the ever afters. -The end.
Is it possible to have some sort of alert system, that way if someone mentions you in a thread you forget to check, their post doesn't go unnoticed by you?
Mustache heavily disagrees with anything Facebook related.
I've thought about adding that kind of stuff. I dunno. I'm trying not to take on any unnecessary development projects at the moment though. Maybe someday.
Plus, Gui mentioned how upset he was over on RFN when people kept thumbsdowning stuff he put up. "But we won't have thumbs down here, only thumbs up." In that scenario, a "0" among "+23" might as well be a "-49." Believe it!
Well, I could always give users an option to "hide" that stuff. And then if they kept looking, it's their own darn fault.
Still, I think it will be awhile before I take on any new big programming projects for the site. I'm looking more at advertising / marketing right now.
I'm voting against it. We don't need to see how popular a given thought or post is or how unpopular. Popular posts get replies, simple as that. Thumbs up and down just gives an extra un-needed layer IMO.
Thumbs up or down also makes people lazier. Someone might just click a button as opposed to saying something, even something small. I feel it could hinder communication.

On the flipside some kind of rewards system could be tied into searching so that you can easily find the most "popular" threads over the years. Mind you, the accuracy of such a thing changes as you get more and more people on the forum.
