Site FAQ (also, DONATIONS, BUGS and REQUESTS)

Welcome to Negative World. If you have any question, please read the following list and click to read an answer. If your question isn't in the list or if you have a suggestion, feel free to post a reply.

To be able to add more questions/answers to the list later, your participations to this thread will eventually be deleted to make room, after they've been answered.

Donations

Currently, the site doesn't bring in much money, and it costs about $85 a year to keep up. Not a whole lot, but the owner of this site isn't particularly rich, so every bit helps. Also, the web designer spent a lot of time and work to implement skins, navigation layout, make the site work quick and neat, and implement the options you asked him, all this instead of doing a paid professional site. The more you support the site, the better it'll run and the more potential its future will have.

I don't think enough people are interested in gameswapping to necessitate the switch. Its a good idea though.

-Maybe so, but this would surely promote the thing. Just take this example:

You just came back from one of your friends & he had "Super Galaxian Awesome" for his Wii 5000 & you played it all night and had alot of fun. Coming back home you go to NW's database to add it to your "Wants" and you see that Guillaume has is copy available for swap. So you send 5000 rupees to Zero & then the Princess is saved for the ever afters. -The end.

Is there still a way to embed Gametrailers videos other than using HTML? Their new video URLs don't have a number code at the end.

Is it possible to have some sort of alert system, that way if someone mentions you in a thread you forget to check, their post doesn't go unnoticed by you?

@Brick
This would be nice.
07/06/12, 22:53
What do you mean by "mentions you" though? References a post of yours?

I think, honestly, I'm going to be taking a break from major development for a bit. Well, after the TOP SECRET NEW FUNCTIONALITY launches.

@Zero

Is the TOP SECRET NEW FUNCTIONALITY being able to see if someone mentions you somewhere?!

Surprise, Brick!

Is there a way to tell which poll option I voted?
07/26/12, 00:16
@Mop it up

Search your heart.
07/26/12, 00:58
I would really like a "thumbs up à la Facebook" button. Anybody agree?!
07/26/12, 06:05
@Davoid

As in a facebook like button or like functionality for specific posts?
07/26/12, 06:52
Well @Abdooooo, thumbs up for a specific post. Not a user or anything else.
07/26/12, 08:26
Mustache heavily disagrees with anything Facebook related.

I've thought about adding that kind of stuff. I dunno. I'm trying not to take on any unnecessary development projects at the moment though. Maybe someday.

@Zero

Its true.

Plus, Gui mentioned how upset he was over on RFN when people kept thumbsdowning stuff he put up. "But we won't have thumbs down here, only thumbs up." In that scenario, a "0" among "+23" might as well be a "-49." Believe it!
07/26/12, 20:10
Well, I could always give users an option to "hide" that stuff. And then if they kept looking, it's their own darn fault.

Still, I think it will be awhile before I take on any new big programming projects for the site. I'm looking more at advertising / marketing right now.

I'm voting against it. We don't need to see how popular a given thought or post is or how unpopular. Popular posts get replies, simple as that. Thumbs up and down just gives an extra un-needed layer IMO.

Thumbs up or down also makes people lazier. Someone might just click a button as opposed to saying something, even something small. I feel it could hinder communication.

Those are good points.

On the flipside some kind of rewards system could be tied into searching so that you can easily find the most "popular" threads over the years. Mind you, the accuracy of such a thing changes as you get more and more people on the forum.
07/27/12, 00:21
@DrFinkelstein

Agreed. I like how "pure" the site is.
07/27/12, 00:45
I guess I'll just assume the answer to my question is "No, GTFO."
07/27/12, 01:08
@Zero

How relevant is "the most popular thread of 2011" or something? couldn't that be done on page views alone?

@Mop it up

Well I certainly didn't see your question in the first place Mop. The answer as far as I know is No, you can't.
