Welcome to the official discussion thread for Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U!

Through all the stories and all the timelines found in the Zelda series... nobody saw this coming. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo team up to take the Dynasty Warriors formula, toss in a lot of Zelda-franchise fan service, and blend that stuff together in a funky mish-mash of Zelda lore that only the Wind Fish could dream up. That game is called Hyrule Warriors.

I was admittedly hesitant on this title upon first announcement. I had no idea what the Dynasty Warriors franchise was all about. I knew I loved Zelda. It wasn't until the excellent Nintendo Direct (embedded below) which sold me on the idea. I'm seeing a lot of reviews, which started coming in today, and they seem to agree that this isn't much of a Zelda game. I have to point out, the name borrows the Warriors from Dynasty Warriors and not Zelda. This alone helps me see what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo were aiming for. This isn't going to be a Zelda main-line game nor is it striving to be. For what it's goals are, and for what Nintendo has contributed to it, I'm pretty excited myself and now there's less than 10 days remaining. The game releases on September 26th, 2014.

Fun Facts
1.) Sends Link and 12 other playable characters from various Zelda universes into other universes. Mixing things up!
2.) Loaded with various locales, enemies, bosses, items, and music from throughout the Legend of Zelda series.
3.) Series offers plenty of DLC options (detailed below).
4.) Tons of combos and special moves for each character.
5.) 2-player Co-Op (though I hear it's pretty hard on the Wii U processing)
6.) Unique 'Adventure Mode' taking players back into the NES' The Legend of Zelda for a mix of challenges and adventure! (at least on the map)

Master Quest map!

Still a lot of stuff to do on it but it's all opened up now at least.

They just announced that this game has sold 1m copies world wide.

Really need to get back into this game, I left so much undone after the last update.

@missypissy

Actually shipped so I don't know how close to sold that means... but it definitely seems like it'll be their most successful title. Great news for Koei! It would be nice to say that third parties CAN succeed on the Wii U but they were using the Zelda franchise so it's not exactly surprising.

EDIT: It would be kinda cool if after clearing a map, you were given the option to play it 8 bit style, like classic Zelda. Not as exciting on the old maps but the Twilight Princess map would be neat!

I need to FORCE myself to play this again.

Damn IGN comment section lied to me!

I really wish my Xbox One Kinect didn't mess with the Gamepad so much. It would be cool to have the TV going and then game on the pad with some Hyrule Warriors but I get massive lag spikes because of all the RF signals floating around.

That's my excuse for stopping, at least.

@VofEscaflowne

Does anything occur when you complete a map?
01/28/15, 04:58
@DrFinkelstein

Other than it saying "Complete" across the screen when you've beaten every level, it does nothing else. I believe a medal is also locked behind getting all heart pieces as well so unless something special occurs once you get all of those too, then that "Complete" message is as special as it gets

Oh interesting, apparently some people have found out that in the 1.5 update for the game, there's 3 new songs included. One is probably for the new map but that leaves 2 which could be used for actual levels. I wonder if that means we're getting new battle stages as well?
01/28/15, 05:42
@VofEscaflowne

Sorry to be the bad news guy, but they're all 8-bit renditions of Clock Town, i.e. map songs.
01/28/15, 06:33
@TriforceBun

Well Twilight Princess only added one new song. Curious how these will be used then. We'll see soon enough!
01/28/15, 06:42
what all do the dlc packs add? Do they add new levels themed around the games or are they just characters and costumes?
02/03/15, 02:51
@Scrawnton

New 8bit weapons, new maps (just the overworld map like the classic Zelda one but Twilight Princess themed and Majora's Mask), new costumes, new challenges and some new music though just for the overworld map. It's a bit underwhelming cause it could have added more... which sounds weird because it adds a TON of gameplay if you like it. It just feels like more of the same. I definitely got my money's worth anyway. I don't think I've ever played a game as much as this and it just keeps on giving.

I just dislike leveling up characters I hate playing as, like Fi... I wish there was a fast way to make rupees so I can just level her up that way.
02/03/15, 03:54
Just got the DLC... seems interesting so far! New battle modes too for the Termina map which spices things up a bit.
02/05/15, 19:32
Oh god lol

02/05/15, 20:59
@VofEscaflowne
And that about wraps up my time on the Internet today...
02/05/15, 23:10
They really ramped up the enemy count in the Termina map. Some of these battles I've gotten absolutely swarmed. There's a type of battle where the enemy will just recruit absolutely everything in its path to fight against you. It can result in some very intense battles haha. Fun though! I kinda wish they could have improved the frame rate somehow since it can still dip a lot with plenty of action on screen.
02/06/15, 17:18
@VofEscaflowne

Yeah, I dipped into the Termina map for a few battles myself, and I'm liking this new "do X more than the enemy" type of battle. Gives some welcome variety to the proceedings.

However, I think my guys are a little underleveled, even with their Lvl 3 weapons. I might have to finish up the Master Quest map before continuing in Clock Town.
02/06/15, 17:33
@TriforceBun

Yup it's very difficult in some levels. I can still clear the map but getting A ranks will be tough due to how long it takes to take down some enemies.

I did notice that there's new weapon abilities now though. Some are unlocked at 4000 kills and I got one that has you dealing more damage at full health. I like the extra customization options and the option to create the weapon you want a lot more easier now.
02/06/15, 17:40
Bought the extra skins last night, even though I haven't been on in forever. That should be changing to "I'll be on in 2 hours" though, woo! I gotta play mooooore.

I didn't read anything you guys are writing because I don't want stuff spoiled. I've been fairly dark since November (before the Spinner / Amiibo updates). Yikes!
