Hyrule Warriors Discussion (Nintendo Wii U) [game]

Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U
8.25/10 from 11 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Through all the stories and all the timelines found in the Zelda series... nobody saw this coming. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo team up to take the Dynasty Warriors formula, toss in a lot of Zelda-franchise fan service, and blend that stuff together in a funky mish-mash of Zelda lore that only the Wind Fish could dream up. That game is called Hyrule Warriors.

I was admittedly hesitant on this title upon first announcement. I had no idea what the Dynasty Warriors franchise was all about. I knew I loved Zelda. It wasn't until the excellent Nintendo Direct (embedded below) which sold me on the idea. I'm seeing a lot of reviews, which started coming in today, and they seem to agree that this isn't much of a Zelda game. I have to point out, the name borrows the Warriors from Dynasty Warriors and not Zelda. This alone helps me see what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo were aiming for. This isn't going to be a Zelda main-line game nor is it striving to be. For what it's goals are, and for what Nintendo has contributed to it, I'm pretty excited myself and now there's less than 10 days remaining. The game releases on September 26th, 2014.

Fun Facts
1.) Sends Link and 12 other playable characters from various Zelda universes into other universes. Mixing things up!
2.) Loaded with various locales, enemies, bosses, items, and music from throughout the Legend of Zelda series.
3.) Series offers plenty of DLC options (detailed below).
4.) Tons of combos and special moves for each character.
5.) 2-player Co-Op (though I hear it's pretty hard on the Wii U processing)
6.) Unique 'Adventure Mode' taking players back into the NES' The Legend of Zelda for a mix of challenges and adventure! (at least on the map)

I can finally get back to finishing this off after beating Bayonetta over the weekend. The fan service is really second to none in this game. It oozes Zelda more than most proper Zelda games!

Does the DLC download automatically if you got the season pass? I got the update but I can't find the content... and apparently the eShop is down.

I had major issues with this one, all the others went automatically. This one still did, but it took me turning the system off for a few hours for it to register. I checked the eShop after my first boot and it said it was downloaded, just didn't install I guess.

@missypissy

Yeah I tried a few times then shut it down and powered back on later and still nothing. I guess I'll have to wait when the eShop goes back up.

Okay I went on the eShop and even though I didn't download anything, apparently that triggered the DLC to actually install upon start up. Odd. But holy crap, another map! And that music!

EDIT: I'm a bit confused though. Does it actually add anything to Legend Mode or is it just the extra map in Adventure Mode?

The difficulty is pretty damn brutal on the Twilight Princess map. The enemies seem to deal the same damage as they do on Hero difficulty in Legend Mode in some cases. That's not good!

@VofEscaflowne

Good thing you can now level to 150!

Geez, this game is gonna take forever to conquer, isn't it...?

@TriforceBun

Well considering leveling up only increases your health and damage output... not AS helpful but I guess lets you kill enemies slightly faster

I've already put way too much time in this game. I hope the next add-on does something more interesting than simply giving us another map. It's... fun, yes, but doesn't feel really new. Mario Kart 8 gave us new characters, new track and new music. Hyrule Warriors costs more for the season pass and we get 1 new 8bit overworld map theme, a new 8bit map which honestly does not affect gameplay whatsoever and no new maps to actually battle on. I was expecting a bit more maybe.

EDIT: Of course we get Midna and the Dominion Rod but new battle areas would have been exciting!

I am getting a Wii U for Christmas (FINALLY!) from my wife and can't wait for this game. I know it's Dynasty Warriors, and I know it's not "real" Zelda, but I'll be damned if it doesn't look fun.

Also, glad to be here on the board. I see a TON of old IGN board folks and can't wait to chat.

@FatherBrain

Welcome to the board! Always great to have new posters around here.

And yes, the game is Dynasty Warriors but it's also very addicting and has a ton of fan service. I can see someone burning themselves out on the series but this being the first I've put so much time in, I'm glad it was Hyrule Warriors. Definitely has a TON of content for completionists, that's for sure. Hope you enjoy the game and the system come Christmas!

Thanks! Yeah, I have never played a Dynasty Warriors game so it will all be new to me. I only prefaced it with that because that's what everyone says :) I can't wait to dig in!

Hello.. my name is Smerd
and I'm a new Hyrule Warriors Fan.

I've played through just two levels and already bought the DLC Hyrule Full package. I haven't even had time to explore all what this game has to offer but the zelda fan service..the music..just sucks me right in. Already put the Link Amiibo to good use.

@Smerd

Hi Smerd!

Once I get back from my Indiana-vacation (exotic eh?) I'll have to pop this game back in and try out that Link-amiibo action as well as the Zelda-amiibo action. I could use some good weapons!
12/27/14, 06:22
@DrFinkelstein

Does Zelda unlock anything specific to the game or do you just mean to get the random extra bonuses?
12/27/14, 06:24
@VofEscaflowne

The special 3rd level weaponry. That's all.
12/27/14, 07:45
@DrFinkelstein

Ah okay, so nothing exclusive to the amiibo like Link's Spinner. Good
12/27/14, 14:58
Read that they put the pre-order outfit packs up for sale, $1 each (per pack). Glad they did it, though I don't think I'll be buying any.
12/30/14, 20:51
@missypissy Spoiler alert: they all mostly look ridiculously out of place except for the twilight princess ones, which only look mostly out of place.

Ganondorf's TP skin looks way better then his regular look though
12/31/14, 05:46
@pokepal148

Ganondorf's OoT skin is my favorite. I prefer it to his more heavily armored designs.
