Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U!

Through all the stories and all the timelines found in the Zelda series... nobody saw this coming. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo team up to take the Dynasty Warriors formula, toss in a lot of Zelda-franchise fan service, and blend that stuff together in a funky mish-mash of Zelda lore that only the Wind Fish could dream up. That game is called Hyrule Warriors.

I was admittedly hesitant on this title upon first announcement. I had no idea what the Dynasty Warriors franchise was all about. I knew I loved Zelda. It wasn't until the excellent Nintendo Direct (embedded below) which sold me on the idea. I'm seeing a lot of reviews, which started coming in today, and they seem to agree that this isn't much of a Zelda game. I have to point out, the name borrows the Warriors from Dynasty Warriors and not Zelda. This alone helps me see what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo were aiming for. This isn't going to be a Zelda main-line game nor is it striving to be. For what it's goals are, and for what Nintendo has contributed to it, I'm pretty excited myself and now there's less than 10 days remaining. The game releases on September 26th, 2014.

Fun Facts
1.) Sends Link and 12 other playable characters from various Zelda universes into other universes. Mixing things up!
2.) Loaded with various locales, enemies, bosses, items, and music from throughout the Legend of Zelda series.
3.) Series offers plenty of DLC options (detailed below).
4.) Tons of combos and special moves for each character.
5.) 2-player Co-Op (though I hear it's pretty hard on the Wii U processing)
6.) Unique 'Adventure Mode' taking players back into the NES' The Legend of Zelda for a mix of challenges and adventure! (at least on the map)

I've been using it on occasion. I don't have time to upgrade through fighting all the time. Right now almost all I have left is stuck behind Ganondorf scenarios and he's weaker. I don't want to grind just to have a shot at moving forward. It's not that big of a deal. I earn the rupees, so why can't I convert that, that's how I feel.

I made progress last night. Been off the wagon for a few days with all the smash bros going on. Trying to complete adventure mode at least before Smash Wii U hits, but Guacamelee is awesome too.

@Mr_Mustache

You mean where you buy levels? Heck no, that's an amazing feature! Beats grinding, that's for sure. What else would you do with that money?

@Mr_Mustache

I like the Dojo. Since I've earned those rupees, it doesn't feel like cheating to me at all. Plus, there's so many friggin' characters that being able to have some leeway with free leveling is a bit of a godsend. Can't really abuse it, either, since it starts getting expensive around lvl 20 or 30 too.

I still play this almost every day (although I got started later than everyone). Currently about 2/3 through Adventure Mode's map, just got Fi's Level 3.

I'm having weird flashbacks to the Bonus EXP discussion in Fire Emblem...

@-JKR-

Just sit on it. Horde it. I got everyone up to 45 or 50 tonight based on who they were. Still got my rear end handed to me one some missions in the upper righthand corner. Patience being tested..

@Shadowlink

HAHA! Did we have those? I can't remember how heavily I used it. I think I just kinda inched my guys up there. Was there some sort of Bonus for leveling up on the field vs. back at base? Its been so lonnng.
11/05/14, 09:31
@Mr_Mustache

Yeah, but I took your Rupee position at the time.

The stuff was basically the Megalixir of Fire Emblem. Must. Not. Use! Save for rainy day!

I think I caved near the end.

@Shadowlink

HAHA!! "The Megalixir." I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. I wonder if anyone beats games anymore completely broke. You know, besides Zombi U. Chances are you were broke at the end of that thing.

Holy cow. Ok. So, spent some time "tonight" (between the hours of 2 and 4:30a..so morning, whatever) trying to do Link's Level 3 Gauntlet. This is the first time I'd been back there since reaching Lv50, but the 2.5 hour time limit suggests that I didn't get it done in one shot. No, sir.

Was anyone able to A Rank it at LESS than Lv57? I got really scared when I didn't trigger the 1200 Skulltula, and then saw 4 hearts drop off of me during the boss fight. YECH. Luckily it was enough. And I gotta tell you, the reward is awesome. You gotta see it to believe it!

Finished off the DLC story, and now I'm just waiting for the new DLC to drop, but I don't even really know what it is. Wooo, surprises. Have not started the Master Quest yet though. Jazzed for that.

So we have some news regarding the next DLC pack... first off... it releases November 27th GLOBALLY! Next here's what Aonuma had to say... spoilers I guess. It's DLC but if you bought the DLC in bulk and am trying to be surprised with each digital delivery, please move past this uncensored post now.

Greetings to everyone in our The Legend of Zelda community! I'm Eiji Aonuma, the supervisor for Hyrule Warriors, and I'm happy to talk to you all again.

The second DLC pack for Hyrule Warriors, the Twilight Princess Pack, will be released soon, so today I would like to give you a sneak peek at what's inside.

The highlight of the first DLC pack, the Master Quest Pack, was being able to team Link up with Epona. This time around, there will be a new playable character - someone from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess... Who do you think it is?

Here's a hint: this character only appeared in this form at the very end of Twilight Princess.

In that game, Midna is cursed and cast out from the Twilight Realm, but now you will be able to unleash her true form as Twili Midna!

When I was developing Twilight Princess, I thought it was such a waste to let a beautiful princess like her only appear in the ending. Now Koei Tecmo Games has made my wish to see more of her come true.

Twili Midna's weapon is the Mirror of Twilight, which appeared in Twilight Princess. This mirror was destroyed at the end of that game, but it's pretty amazing in Hyrule Warriors. In fact, I can't describe in words what's so amazing about it, so I hope you'll download this DLC pack and see for yourself.

In addition to Twili Midna, the Twilight Princess Pack includes new weapons, costumes and an adventure map, so if you played through the original game, they should contribute to the fun you'll have in Hyrule Warriors. (For one of the costumes, you can dress Link up as a certain familiar character from the Zelda series. It may make you say ""Wow!"" so I hope you'll look forward to it.)

The second DLC pack for Hyrule Warriors, the Twilight Princess Pack, will be released globally on November 27!

DLC News alert complete!

@DrFinkelstein

Cool! Expected, but cool. Thanks for spoiler-tagging it too. I'm just hoping we get the Spinner as well.

@TriforceBun

Hopefully it was spoiler-tagged well enough. I mean, I didn't want to try and black out everything, though I suppose I could.... I dunno, I thought this method was enough. I think we're meant to get the Spinner but I guess it's not necessarily confirmed.

Another female character for this game. It has become disturbing.

I just wanna see Groose.

The people wanted more female characters in games. So it shall be.

I've been playing this game a lot lately. Just beat Legend mode, it was pretty cool. I'm impressed by just how much STUFF there is to do in HW, especially when you take all the DLC into account. The main game and Adventure Mode alone would probably take 100 hours to finish, I could see the remaining full DLC maps each easily adding another 50 hours apiece. Are all Musou games typically this content-rich? I imagine Adventure Mode is solely a Zelda thing...

Eh, I don't see the problem. This was a TP-related package, and I'm having a hard time thinking of a better TP playable character than that.

If anything, my gripe with diversity in this game stems more from game diversity. Where's my Link's Awakening level and characters, Nintendo??

@TriforceBun
They should have put in King Bulblin. His special power could have been disappearing for half the match and telling a knock-knock joke at the end.

New DLC is out and it took awhile for it to work for me. Started up the game and got the Patch 1.4 notes, noticed I didn't get any of the actual content so I restarted...still nothing. Turned off the system, let it sit there for a few hours, and then it worked!

Haven't really jumped deep into it, since I'm still working on the other content...

Twili Midna is pretty strong, her range on strong attacks is insanely high. I don't like the noise she makes while running, but at least she's not one of those characters who needs to constantly "buff" themselves to do normal damage like Fi, I like the Ganondorf style more which she is in line with.

Only did one of the adventure levels and it was different from anything else. Had to kill the two elites at the same time which wasn't hard with my now level 90 Link.

Levels raised to 150, so someday...maybe.
Item drops up to x999 instead of x99.
Enemies can drop multiple materials, thus far I've only seen duplicate low quality item drops. Nothing like two Golds, one Silver and a Bronze, or anything like that.
Link's new outfit is...well...and the Zelda one is pretty interesting. Haven't even unlocked or seen the other ones.
Adventure Mode has new rules, like mentioned above. Twilight Portals (requiring everyone's favorite boob birds) and Twilight fog/haze that you need the Tears to lift. No idea where those items are located as nothing shows on the map.

I need to get into this DLC. I also got the Link amiibo so the Spinner should be fun to use. But with Persona Q and Smash also occupying my game time, it's hard to really make time for it. Soon though!

This is me exactly.

I'm impressed by how beefy Hyrule Warriors is. The DLC should keep me occupied for quite awhile, not to mention the crazy max level boost!
