9.19/10 from 33 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

I've noticed it on the 3DS but not on the Wii U so far. If you get a bad connection with someone, just switch matches.

I've had no issues with lag whatsoever with 1-on-1 matches. 4-player was a little more spotty.

My buddy and I showed up and pestered Fabz and Kenny (I believe) in their online room by being Beavis and Butt-Head (Miis), complete with stupid taunt quotes like "Uhh huh huh" and "Uhhh...okay." We lost since we barely know how to use Miis. Hope we didn't drive you guys too crazy!

I dislike fighting Miis and hate Beavis and Butthead... so I went to bed with nightmares. Thanks jerk!

Got the 10 hour challenge last night! Still don't even have it on the 3DS version XD

Fucking Crazy Orders...still can't do it. Likely just gonna end up doing the number of matches required to unlock the last fighter because I don't feel like dropping 5k in coins just to fail again.

Can't you use those tickets instead?

Ran out. Probably burned 10+ so far trying. My first attempts I didn't realize you had to actually beat Crazy Hand for the rounds to register, so I just kept pushing until I ended up dying. Most of the time, I hit 7-9 and then hit some match where the CPU goes insane and takes me out quick, last one was Giant Mario.

I have noticed that the CPU seem to be ultra defensive in this game...like to the point where it is insanity. They can perfectly time escaping a lot of my moves and then quickly countering. Also, on Free for All, the CPUs do not go after each other nearly enough. It feels like they all target the player unless the player isn't around, then they just kind of jab each other and hunt down the player. So many times I've seen all 3 CPUs b-line for me on matches at higher difficulties and leave each other alone.

More folks need to share their Nickname so we can truly know who people are. My NNID, NegWorld ID, and Nickname are all different for instance.

Still, more than happy to ensure you're added by fellow Smash gamers. That way you'll show right up when you come on. I'm gonna go through my frends'list tonight to ens ye e people are all added.

Unlocked two people so far, and there are so many characters in the game I didn't even realize they were missing. "Oh yeahhhh.." Eager / WAITING to unlock more, but I don't really want to know how. Its cool when they show up.

I've NEVER had it happen, but does anyone know what DOES happen in the event of FAILING to beat a new challenger?

You just don't get them that time. You have to try to beat them again next time they come up.

@Mr_Mustache @Cubed777

Correct. And typically doing the thing you just did, i.e. smash battle or Classic Mode or whatever, will kick it back into play. By switching modes I've actually had a different challenger come at me only to have the original one come back later.

This is the first Smash Bros where fighting the challengers was actually pretty hard. It's no longer guaranteed to unlock them right away like it's been before.

@DrFinkelstein Yeah, way to be confusing guy!

Is a "nickname" something different in-game or do you just mean someone's Mii name?

NNID- kgtennispro Nickname - Kenny

@Mop it up

Nickname is separate. Like, my NNID is a00Link but I can choose to have it display Stephen (my first name) in the games and online. The ID is used for adding friends but this way people know it's me. Then my username is DrFinkelstein which is different in itself. If people's nicknames are just their NNIDs then that's something I'd like to know so I can just make it so.

If you wanna talk about being confusing, my first name is the username of Stephen on the boards. So that doesn't help (not that he and I cross paths much gaming-wise).

Just play a one stock Smash and when you're done, the guy will be back to challenge you again. Unless that one stock Smash happened to unlock someone else, but that's unlikely.
