Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!
To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!
Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.) 1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes) 2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region 3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends! 4.) Customizable Move-sets 5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS! 6.) Online capable (and encouraged) 7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros! 8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages! 9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos 10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well. Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.
The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts. Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online. @carlosroxIndeed. Considering I'm no where near pro level, she probably was nerf'd quite a bit. Just not enough for my tastes. I haven't noticed that many tweaks to the characters after the various updates, as I'm not that serious a player, but I have noticed a few. With Bayonetta, the only thing I noticed from this latest update is that her five or so rapid fire slide kick combo was slowed down at the very end to allow one to break away. I have noticed other nerfs in the past, such as Jigglypuff's rest move - with it being perfect right at launch, and then nerf'd to Brawl level after an update. And either it was always like this or I just noticed after one of the updates, but Ness' yo-yo move seems seriously nerf'd. The string of the yo-yo used to be damaging, I thought, and limited one from breaking away or in during the move. Now it's just a powerless string, thus limiting the effectiveness of the move. It was always a good move to get players out of your personal space. Now they can just hop in and play jump rope. And I guess they're never going to fix Marth and Lucina? I'm surprised most people are okay with Cloud as is. I think he just has too many things going for him. He's fast, has a massively powerful and varying charge move, super long reach, good jumping, good recovery, powerful combos, and so on. HE NEEDS TO GO. But I digress. |

I read something the other day that reminded me of the unpleasant For Glory runs some of us have had, and it may explain why. TLDR: Smash has a "Report Player" function somewhere in its labyrinth of menus, and a player can report you for any reason (or no reason) and you'll never know. Once you're reported, you can only play other players who have been reported, in "Smash Hell", for a short while. And of course, the people who have been reported are generally unpleasant, and also spiteful enough to keep reporting you for any reason (or no reason) to keep you in Smash Hell longer. So that might explain why I tend to encounter people with tags like "U SUK" and "N!GG3R" and "KYS" in bunches or not at all. What a broken system. @NoName Yep, there's a million things to love about Smash games. I don't think I've made it to the 4000 battles milestone yet, but I hit 3000 a while ago, so I've gotta be close...! @carlosrox We should play sometime! I've gotten a bit tired of For Glory, where the skill level is so variable. Sometimes I'm matched with people who seem like beginners, other times I get stomped, and every now and then I'll get a good, even match. I only hop on once every few weeks now, for an hour or so. |

@carlosroxI'd appreciate it if you actually contributed to the thread in a more significant way, dude. These small, tiny, and minuscule posts with nothing significant in them is just a waste. Post some videos or something from your playtime. Do you know how to post videos to this thread? You should probably post some videos to this thread. If you don't know how, I can teach you. Just let me know. Seriously, no more of these puny little posts. Get some videos recorded and post them in this thread. If you want to. I don't even know if you even record your matches when you play them online? But yeah, you should post some videos. If you can/know how to/want to. Post some videos. Videos. Post them. |

I have to say that after nearly two years and 4K matches played, I think this to be the worst Smash yet. Not horrible, of course, but not Melee or Brawl level awesome. I'm just so totally over the combo system they let stick and some of the character movesets (and characters in general). This isn't Tekken! We don't need to be able to hit someone eight times in a row in the air. I refuse to do more than a three hit combo. It just seems cheap otherwise. Oh, you like to do the same moveset with Mario and his up throw combo? Good for you! I'm glad that's fun for you. It's not for me. Or you like to play as Donkey Kong and not move from the edge so you can lure people over to throw and meteor smash? That's great! Now, I'm not great at the game, so part of it's that, but I know from years of playing Melee and Brawl, there's been nothing like this. And with respect to Brawl, this version has brought with it the cockiest of players I've ever had the displeasure of playing against online. There are some good people, sure; many of which I'm now "friends" with, but the vast majority are so unabashedly, and unnecessarily arrogant and cocky that it's just pathetic. Or maybe I'm pathetic for taking it too seriously. I have played against some really good people (really good) and I've no qualms with people playing well and beating the caca out of me before I've dealt a blow - if it's skill and not cheap spammy moves. I don't know. To me it's more about having fun. Using different characters and different moves. Trying to win, sure, but enjoying the ride first and foremost. How can it be fun to play as the same character over and over again, using the same limited moveset over and over again? I just don't get it. Ah, my limited kingdom for a Smash refresh on NX. |

@NoNameBut that's the other players' faults, that happens in every game I find. People will use whatever gives them an edge in winning! It's not even about the fun, the challenge, the skill, etc. For them it's about winning! I fought some people I've wanted to strangle over the last few days and it's all because of how they decide to play within this game's rules! I just fought a Samus last night and it's very very rare when a Samus bests me, but this asshole did and it was all because he was absolutely pathetically camping and spamming to an offensive degree. Smash Normal and Super Missiles at me from the other side of the stage. And now I know these assholes are all showing up because that stupid Smash hell or whatever that happens when you seem to receive a complaint. And I'm sure I did because I must have told off a guy or two who just needed to be told off. So now I'm there. Trust me, if Melee or Brawl had online, you would be saying the exact same thing about them. Some people play online to be assholes to others, take out their own anger in their life (seriously), or just to win to feel good about themselves. The lows people will stoop to to ensure their win is something people are gonna do. You can see my replays and see that while I can employ certain techniques regularly, I don't incessantly spam them. Don't forget that at this point you're also playing against the people who really enjoy being skillful at the game, have put in many hours, etc. This basically happens to any online game and you will always find people who find THE most effective technique and pathetically stick to it. I can't name how many games I've played online where the playerbase resorted to whatever annoying shit gimmick they could to either win, annoy you, or both. Splatoon has it too. MK8 as well. Ah and I just glanced up and noticed that TB shares a similar sentiment. |
