Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

I don't see any issue with NoName said:

I also get annoyed when someone plays the same character over and over. I get that they like the character, but when coupled with tired spammy moves? No thanks. I get you know how to win at Smash with Little Mac by doing the same charging lunge punch over and over. Good for you.
I see nothing wrong with having a certain character you generally use (A "Main" if you will).

Charizard is just a character I enjoy using but at the same time he is very difficult to use effectively but when you make it work it becomes so satisfying. Even without all the buffs he got this has always been true.

That's why I main Charizard.

So you all remember megabyte right? That charming little monstrosity of a Link Amiibo I created?

Well, today he has finally met his match.

Megabyte is a very interesting opponent in that he is very good at following up on his attacks and can really kinda mercilessly bring you down very quickly but that's what makes this such a fun match.

@pokepal148
Sweet pic.

Did you feed it? Amiibo are only really hard when you feed them shit.
02/11/16, 06:20
@carlosrox
Amiibo can be tough if you train them properly. And they still have inflated damage/knockback regardless. Still, I find a lvl 50 amiibo easier than lvl 9 CPUs - them be some cheatin' sons of bitches.
02/11/16, 18:13
@anon_mastermind Ugh yeah I hate fighting CPUs. They don't play like humans at all. Most of their difficulty comes from having frame-perfect airdodge capabilities.

Videos of changes in the latest balance patch included with Corrin/Bayonetta!

Most of them are very slight, but Marth especially has gotten some nice buffs. Slightly more range, power, and speed to a lot of his moves. Other characters who got notable benefits include Lucina, Ike, Falco, Bowser Jr., Toon Link, Little Mac, and Charizard.
02/11/16, 18:24
@anon_mastermind
They do? Why? I thought this was only the case if you fed them. I was never too impressed with my Samiibo (Samus haha), then again I "trained" it over a year ago, and I've improved tons since then.
I don't think I've even played it since then. Once it's reached Lvl 50 does it cease to learn anything new?

Yeah me and two friends were playing against Lvl 9s (3v3) and it was quite hilarious the ridiculous things they were doing. Mario is a total asshole with his cape in particular.

They are basically unrealistically good, so it's better to play against Lvl 8s. Though, me and my brother have noticed when 2v2ing them online that they basically turn into Lvl 9s sometimes. Is this some sort of weird..bug? Or did the AI get improvements? I swear Lvl 8s are far tougher these days. It's basically like playing For Glory players. They seem eerily...aware. They play like people.

Ps. How the hell does the Smart Bomb even work?? I've thrown it AT people and at the ground, but that never seems consistent. Only throwing it in the air seems to work. Is that correct? Does it need time in the air to detonate?

I have to admit, I'm still confused about the fairy in a bottle. How do you get it out? And what does it do?!
02/11/16, 19:57
@carlosrox Some smart bombs are "duds" that don't activate right away. I think those ones need to be thrown twice, or just need more time to explode. They make a metallic, echo-y sound when they hit something. Or at least I think that's how they work.

@Zero If you're over 100%, a Fairy Bottle will heal you 100%. If you're under 100%, you just pick it up like a throw-able item. I actually don't know what happens if you throw it at someone, but I don't think it does damage...? I think the idea is, if you're under 100% you can't use it, but you can throw it away so the other player can't use it either.
02/11/16, 20:03
@nate38 Hmm, that's interesting. So if you were at 90% and saw one it might almost be good strategy to hurt yourself quickly to get over 100% so you could use it?
02/11/16, 20:11
@Zero
Dang, you didn't know this?

Yeah if your health is anywhere close to 100 then just pick the thing up and hold onto it. You won't drop it unless you throw it (if I'm not mistaken) so you've got nothing to lose. You can hang back or be aggressive. Also, if an enemy is near or above 100 it's best to just throw it off the stage (unless you also need it). You won't be able to use your regular attacks though, only your specials.

@nate38
Actually I'm pretty sure if it hits someone it heals them, enemy or not. I've definitely seen it heal people by means other than holding it. Not sure if it reacts to long range stuff or not.
02/11/16, 20:27
Cool videos. I'm glad Boswer Jr. got buffed, his smash attacks did indeed have a lot of end lag and were risky so I would usually resort to using tilts instead. Maybe now I can punish a bit better with him.
02/11/16, 22:37
@anon_mastermind
OMG wtf, why did he get buffed? He controls the screen as it is already! He's one of the few characters I have almost no idea how to deal with when someone knows how to use them right. His reach is obnoxious, as are all the numerous ways he can hop around the damn stage. Ugh.
02/11/16, 22:50
@carlosrox
I don't think he's too hard to deal with, especially for Samus. Projectiles neuter his side B pretty easily.
02/11/16, 22:55
@anon_mastermind
No way man, he just jumps over it! Plus his side B can stop wherever the player chooses!

I definitely find him to be one of the toughest characters to deal with.
02/12/16, 00:00
@carlosrox i've heard samus amiibo in general are difficult to train because they tend to get spammy with projectiles.
02/12/16, 04:34
@pokepal148
My Samiibo seemed to NOT shoot much. I'd always see it hold onto the fully charged Charge Shot for waaaaay too long.

I think I'll play against it again sometime this weekend.

So if I delete the data and train it again, I assume this thing would be better than it was the first time, considering I've improved as a player? I kinda doubt the training behind these things. Mine honestly didn't play much like me, I kinda felt like that whole thing was a hype. I'd love if Amiibo TRULY played like a player.
------------

You know, I've never really liked Mario's fireball move. He uses it too slow, the fireball itself is too slow, it's too weak, its range sucks, etc. I still don't like his FLUDD either. Too much work for too little payoff. I suppose I just need to get better with him, but I'm not a fan of Mario's specials. His standard attacks though, those are all quite awesome.

------------

That Smash NX (most likely remaster) rumor actually makes too much sense from a financial standpoint especially if you consider Amiibo. I've read that the Smash Amiibo are by far the best selling Amiibo line. I mean, that alone kinda tells you they need to continue selling it. Smash 4 NX would keep that going.

-------------

FUCK Falco. His hit priority is fucking INSANE. NOTHING Samus does beats his moves. All his air moves, all his Smashes, he recovers from landings and is able to attack me with his standard attack before I can do SHIT! I was playing this annoying fuck last night who beat me with the SAME shit all night long. He won with Falco's obnoxious as fuck side smash off the ledge EVERY time. And of course Falco benefits from that super annoying hitting beyond what it looks like he can reach shit. AND good luck doing ANYTHING against is side air. I'm totally with NoName in thinking that players who spam the same shit are embarrassing. I can't believe that asshole rinsed and repeated every win on me.

What an embarrassment. I'm embarrassed for him.

I went to a local tournament last night! Had a good time and surprised a few players who are regulars at the tourneys around here. Some of my matches even got on the stream.

Good times were had by all. You guys should totally check out your local tourney scenes.

@nate38

Good work, Nate. Stick it to 'em! I know its old old old news, but I entered in a tourney at Niagara Falls Comic Con last year and managed to advance a round. It was fun! WE LIKE IKE

EDIT- Ah, cool! I didn't even see that you were Ike, too! Dig it! Also, bonus kudos for just putting your name, and not some GUILD alliance like that other guy, or an online handle. "Call me Nate. Its my name." Pffft, those dudes had to chew on it allll night.

One thing I don't like...*sigh*, I don't like the game being this...MECHANICAL thing. Do you know what I mean? Lou and I commentated a Smash Tournament, and we did it in the style of WRESTLING. "Nice Wave right there," and "he's got that side B combo," ugh. I just can't get with this stuff -- at all. (And these guys are talking about Ike as if he's the follow up to Cloud. GROAN.)

EDIT2- GOD, listening to these dudes talk after your win reminds me of my old Raw Deal tournaments that I went to. They're barely giving you credit, and its alllllll that other guy's fault. Bullsh, man, you beat that dude. A counter is a MOVE, you won. "Neutral B edgeguard attempt." Ok, I can't watch anymore.

Good work, bud.

@Mr_Mustache Haha, yeah, I can see where they're coming from and I like the technical analysis, but the best announcers (or "casters" or whatever) balance that with enthusiasm and fun like what you guys did.

That said I'll probably use a handle next time. I realized at sign-ups that I should have one, but I couldn't think of one on the spot. I think I may have to go with Rustyyyyyyyyyyyy... Shackleford. Shackleford.
02/28/16, 04:55
@nate38

Haha, Dale Gribble's alias, nice!

And confirmed, I'll be doing commentary along with Lou at NinSage's Smash Tourney on the 19th.

You should swing by! You can offer your thoughts on neutral B edge guards!... (BARF)
