Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

WFT finally got a buff!

Anyone make a NW tourney yet?

Man, tourneys are the wave of the future.
Playing on actual stages with the option for items and Miis. It's good to finally get some real choice in there.

Now maybe I'll use some of those Mii costumes.

Start one!

I'd love to get more of this DLC but daaayum it's all expensive.

Uggggh, soooo close to putting my coin woes behind me once and for all. I won a 10x Spectate battle, let it ride, then won another 10x Spectate battle and had a chance for a cool 100,000 coin payout on the third battle. Made it to sudden death and my hopes were dashed with a Samus grab.

Edit: Man, Spectate mode can be frustrating. I had a chance to win 50 grand and I quickly learned that my eggs were in the basket of someone who had no idea what they were doing. Then I had a chance at 30 grand and no one even fought they just dicked around while Ridley killed them and I lost it all.

Sorry for declining anyone's game right now, I'm just gonna play with my brother for a bit!

Woo, my spectating finally paid off. That would have been painful if it weren't for the Gamepad, I was just hanging with my wife and watching TV and picking battles. Finally Mega Man won me 100K. All trophies obtained and all challenges complete!

Played some Smash for the first time in a while last night, tried out some of the characters that got significant changes in last week's patch. Kirby's forward-throw now keeps the opponent close for one or more aerial followups, and Robin's down-throw seems like it's a surefire combo starter as well, which could be real dangerous with his/her powerful attacks. At least a few other characters were given similar treatment in June's patch, particularly Link and his down-throw, and of course Lucas, Roy, and I think even Ryu come standard with setup throws of their own.

Setup throws are one of the reasons why characters like Ness, Sheik, and ZSS are so strong, and I'm glad that tournament-scarce characters like Kirby and Robin are being given a leg up. But Smash 4 is already pretty throw-heavy, and I'm worried it'll get even more so if this is the apparent solution to how strong shields are in this game.

Of course, they did apparently reduce every character's invulnerability window during rolls and spot-dodges by one frame in the last patch. It's a small but broad change to the game's overall offense/defense balance, and if they're willing to nerf the dodge game like that, maybe they'll do the same for shields later. I will say that overall I'm really impressed with the team's balancing efforts, even if patches maybe come too frequently.

Sweet, I'm uploading my first replay to Miiverse/Youtube now. Looks like it functions similarly to the MK8 sharing tools. Man, NX really needs to make this more user friendly and quicker.

The 3 minute time limit is a bit of a pain, but 3 minutes is pretty long for a FG match at least... Yet another reason to play more FG...

Anyone grabbed the new DLC stages? I have the N64 Kirby stage. Would love to get some games going soon.

@anon_mastermind
I got Hyrule Castle because it's awesome. It's pretty much what I expected.
08/05/15, 19:52
@Jargon

Wow, congratulations! That's crazy!
08/05/15, 19:57
@anon_mastermind I have all three. Peach's Castle 64 is my personal favorite. They're all great, though.

@anon_mastermind
I get all the DLC (not all Mii costumes, but some, depends how I feel). Both stages are awesome. I really like the Peach's Castle 64 as well as Hyrule Castle 64. Both really good level designs when it comes to Smash. I actually didn't expect to enjoy Peach's Castle so much. I don't remember caring about it much in the original game.

The new Zelda theme rendition is amazing. Love it.

Wow, got an email today. They added clothes for LLOYD from TOS? Thats freakin' MINT. I wonder why they just didn't put Lloyd in the game though? C'mon, Namco! I miss Tales of Symphonia

LOL this video has nothing but dislikes so far! What the fuck, tough crowd? It could be cuz my taunting, (which some may know I'm against) which was only done as revenge to the guy who started it first. So, yeah, taunt me like a dick, I'm gonna do it back. I'm betting a number of replays will show just that. One of the ones I'm uploading soon shows a guy start off with the dickheaded taunting after he KOs me once (that obnoxious jerking of the analog left and right), only to have me hit him hard the next 2 rounds, all while giving him a taste of his taunting medicine.

Anyhoo, here's a pretty decent one where I think I end up picking this guy apart pretty well.

Honestly, is this spam? I really don't feel it is cuz I'd like to think I use some pretty good variety in my matches. I don't think I just cover the screen in shit. People have accused me of spam and I dunno if they're just mad or maybe I am annoying to play.

Edit: Actually after rewatching that the moves do seem kinda repetitive that round.

@carlosrox I see nothing offensive there. But FYI I really don't think the analog sticking back and forth is a taunt in most cases. I assume they're either doing dash-dances or perfect pivots, either way it's about staying in the groove of the latency. Downvotes could be from excessive taunting, I dunno.

First time I remembered to record one of these. I wanted to call this one "turtle bird turd," but apparently one of those words is inappropriate language.

I don't know what Nintendo has against turtles!

Sweet, I'd love to watch people's FG matches here. I'll watch it in a sec. I got a few others coming soon as well. With an analog rocker. 3 rounds. Moment he does it I'm so like ooh I'm gonna fuck this guy up when I spawn.

Haha if that isn't taunting then I may be mistaken. I dunno, I find it hard to take it as practice. You could very well be right though...

@nate38
In the words of Falco, "Geez laweez!" A no-damage win. And that guy didn't seem like a little kid or anything either.
08/06/15, 06:55
@TriforceBun Well he wasn't great. We played probably a dozen matches and I wasn't in danger of losing any, usually with both stocks and not a lot of percent. But that one especially he just wasn't doing so hot and I lucked out of some close calls.

On another note, is there any possibility the next DLC character isn't Inkling? The game's roster was already pretty much airtight with every "deserving" Nintendo character, and with the way Splatoon has blown up, I can't imagine a more obvious choice. Female/male variants, copious alternate color possibilities, moveset easily taken from Splatoon's weapons, potential for a unique gimmick in covering the stage with ink (or perhaps that would be a Splatoon stage gimmick), and international appeal. I'm not a betting man, but I'd just about put money on Inkling at this point.

@nate38
Inkling is an obvious choice, but I think it takes longer than a few months to make/test a new character. I'd be willing to bet that Sakurai and his team had a couple other characters already in the works before Splatoon hit it big this summer. The other alternative is that they might want to "save" Inkling for the NEXT Smash as a draw.
