Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

@Jargon Oh yeah, the hands are nothing for Marth. His up-smash is basically the perfect tipping distance from the hands, so they go down in 6-7 hits.

As much as I like Ryu as a character in this, I can't accurately do his inputs enough with the gamecube controller to be effective with him.

Maybe I'll practice with it, but for now I think I'll save using him just for free for alls, heh.

Marth challenge complete! I thought I was done for after I kept getting battles with lots of people in the mandatory battles. Then I really wasn't making great time against the final bosses. But after the credits, to my surprise, the panel shattered. I'll take it!

Next up, defeating Level 9 without dying. Kirby up!

Got all the custom moves. Took me less than an hour with Ganondorf after priming for Charizard and Dedede (only two characters I had left to do).

I've got 115,000 coins. I guess I can make coins trying to beat Level 9 without dying, although if I die early I might end up losing coins. The other option is to get up to 300,000 and then use those to try to beat the last challenge. Hmm...

And boom goes the dynamite. Level 9 beaten without dying. Used Kirby and an Auto Healer. Died a few times on Master Core's sword form before I finally pulled it off. Now to get 200,000 more coins. Guess I need to start playing with friends online more! Let's do this!

Way back on Super Smash Bros. 64, I chose Kirby as my main. Why? Because I sucked. With everyone else I would fall off the stage quickly and be stuck waiting while my much better friends finished the game. So I started playing as Kirby, with whom I could fly around, avoid fighting and sometimes survive until the end before getting killed. When Melee came out, I got it day one and played enough to figure out how to play effectively. With Kirby, of course.

In SSB64, my favorite move was Kirby's down special, Stone. Except it didn't look like a stone in that game. It was hard to say what it was, exactly, but we called it "the biscuit." It was a great move for my non-confrontational style. I could fly above two people who were fighting and drop down, hurting them while impervious to damage. Rinse/repeat.

My favorite stage was Yoshi's Island. As the flying Kirby, the clouds that appeared to the right weren't as dangerous to me. I would lure people out and try to get the clouds to disappear so that they would plummet to their deaths. But this wasn't the only feature of the level I enjoyed. There was also a slanted platform in the middle. My friends quickly grew wise to my attacks from above and were able to defend against them, but on this stage, I could start my down special in a spot they might not notice and Kirby would slide down the ramp in stone form, landing on top of an unsuspecting fighter. I called this move "the eventual biscuit." As more Smash Bros. games came out, I would always look for spots where I could pull this move off, even though I'd gotten good enough to not rely nearly as much on Kirby's down special as I did in that original game.

I write here today because the eventual biscuit, it seems, is dead. With the most recent update, I realized that Kirby was no longer falling out of slanted platforms. He still slides down, but he gets stuck to the edge. At first I thought maybe something was just going wrong with that particular session, but I tried online and off and it seems to be the case permanently.

I'm not sure why the developers made this change after it had been present for 15 years. Maybe less experienced players were falling to their death because of it on stages like Pilotwings and complained. For me, there would be some irony in that.

Whatever the reasons, I now understand the plight of those people who send death threads to the developers when their favorite FPS weapon gets a tiny tweak. Say it isn't so.

RIP eventual biscuit.

Wow, the Miiverse Stage communities are all memes, spoilers, dicks, and creeping on the female fighters. It's like Nintendo isn't even trying to moderate them. Hugely disappointing.

@nate38

I did see one informative post saying that Bush did 9/11.
06/30/15, 06:03
@Jargon Now wait, I'm confused, because I read that Shulk was behind the attacks.
06/30/15, 06:11
@nate38
Yeah, I played that stage with my 6-year-old niece earlier and was embarrassed at what popped up. Stay classy, Smash Bros fanbase.

I don't remember the Miiverse stage being especially offensive, though I recall a dick or two. Whatever.

So I wonder how Smash NX will top this one. Yep, I went there.
06/30/15, 09:48
Ridley.

Making him a regular fighter would betray the character? Fine. Let us play as the bosses then.

The new DLC doesn't affect the "collect all the _____ / beat with all characters" challenges, do they?
06/30/15, 19:41
@Mr_Mustache Nope. I finished Classic 7.0+ with every character other than Mewtwo (before the other DLC characters were available), and it completed the challenge for me.
06/30/15, 20:40
@nate38

Any tips for the 9.0 run? I beat it with Ike (SOMEHOW), but definitely not without dying.
06/30/15, 21:32
@Mr_Mustache

No, but any character you download shows up in All-Star mode, making it tougher to beat the challenges that require you to complete it.
06/30/15, 21:54
@Mr_Mustache I did it with Bowser, using custom equipment that gave me Lifesteal (or Vampirism or whatever it's called) and Auto-Heal and defense bonuses. Generally it's easier to survive as a heavy character.

@V_s Ah yeah, true. I definitely lost a few All-Star runs to Mewtwo's shadow ball...

Ugh my quest for 300,000 coins is sooo slow going. I am really sick of the 1 player modes and am not particularly interested in playing Smash mode against the computer. I've got like 180K, if I can get to 250K I think I can sell all my items to make it the rest of the way, but even that seems way too far away.
07/19/15, 04:19
@Jargon

Yeah I really don't like how it's "have" 300 000 coins rather than have accumulated that many throughout your playtime.
07/21/15, 06:49
@Jargon

That one's kind of annoying. I pretty much tried to hold off on spending much until I hit it, then I went on a trophy shopping spree, etc.
