Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

Probably an easy one for some of you but the "beat Crazy Orders in 10 turns with Greninja" was driving me crazy the other day. I thought I put a ton of defense on him so I don't really know what I'm doing wrong.

@PogueSquadron

I don't think I did anything wild with that one. I just stuck to Team Matches for the most part.

@Mop it up

I mean like...tell me tell me.. I have no idea how to Dodge Roll or anything like that stuff.
Good grief, I don't think I've ever even done an "air dodge" either.

I appreciate your help.

@Mr_Mustache
You... You don't dodge?!?!

Like, press the shield button then a direction? Air dodging is simply pressing the shield button while airborne.

I hate having to use defensive moves in games. Yeah, I know that's where the strategy is, but it's boring! Hit things! I want to hit things!

@Shadowlink
I dunno what today is in upside down world.
01/10/15, 13:45
@PogueSquadron

I did manage that one after only a few tries. I'll try to remember to look at what I did to him because I did make him custom.

I still don't have the Home Run Bat and Quick Batter so the 20+ turns with Mario is probably out of my league.
01/10/15, 15:37
@Mr_Mustache
There is also the spot dodge where you press down while shielding to gain a moment of invulnerability.

ALRIGHT, TIMMY, YOU CAN DO THIS. Cleared the 8 KOs w/ Lucina last night (w/ 9!), and my winning run was vanilla as Hell and not 1% "exciting." Here's how I did it:

-Sprint off the left side (don't jump, just run), fall, jump back towards the platform, up and B
-Popped 2 guys off with that, sat there for a second until they fell past me so they couldn't hop on me to get up
-Rolled beyond the other 2 (possibly 3?) guys that were left standing there, swatted them left with a "tap smash"
-When they floated back towards the board, I simply gave them another nudge; I was up to 4 or 5 KOs after that
-Reinforcements showed up, did the same thing I did before, but when I rolled behind, I got 4 (or 5) in one swat.
-I drew a heavy sigh, knowing that I was scot free; the guy on the other side would never get me, and everyone else
just kinda floated in the abyss for a sec, all balled up
-And then the very next guy (after they made 9 KOs) killed me in one hit (naturally -- how Cruel!)
-Whole thing took 30 seconds.

GO GET 'EM!

(I also got my 700th trophy last night, yeahhh.)

Classic and All-Star Modes are both complete.
Now, to work on massive Home Runs.... I'm about 500ft short, non-explicit help welcome!

@ploot

Nope. Not at all. Thanks, man.

@kriswright

Me, too!

@DrFinkelstein

I'm not using Quick Batter for that (just the Bat). Do you have the Bat alone?

@anon_mastermind

Ooh, I'll work on that, too.
01/10/15, 22:24
@Mr_Mustache

Wow, you're really digging into those challenges, nice work. As for Home Run, I don't know if this is too much of an easy answer, but I always preferred using the character Ganondorf, who simplifies things quite a bit, for those challenges. Big hits equals one far-flying Sandbag!
01/10/15, 22:46
@Mr_Mustache

I'll have to look. Is there a difference between a Home Run Bat and a Bat? I'll hop in later tonight and check.
01/10/15, 23:16
BTW looking through images I found this... WTF is this?! Is this some bonus mode? Or a planned stage that didn't make the cut? Or part of a moving stage that I somehow never saw?!

...I already did this?

In more positive news, finally did the cruel smash challenge with Lucina. Yes! Only took me like 5 hours of trying.

I poked around a bit more online, turns out I wasn't jumping quite correctly. You need to straighten up before you go into your B-Aerial. Its more likely to push the CPU off the stage, instead of the agonizing chip damage strategy in the video in this thread. Did it in about 3 mins.
01/11/15, 00:41
@Zero

Well, that's definitely a Sonic Heroes level. I remember it from the trailers, but I guess it didn't make the cut.
01/11/15, 00:46
@Zero Naw, that's photoshop. It's a screenshot from Sonic Generations 3DS with some hasty paste-ins.

I played a bit of this game today. Online. It wasn't great.

I was pretty disappointed.
01/11/15, 04:16
Kris lied to me! And yeah I guess it is a pretty sloppy photoshop.
01/11/15, 04:43
@GameDadGrant

You mean Smash 3DS or the Wii U one in particular? What was the problem? In my experience, both versions run quite well online.
01/11/15, 04:47
@GameDadGrant
Such a vague post.
01/11/15, 04:50
@kriswright I'm not sure how serious you might be with this, but I think the dodges in this game are too quick and spammable. It makes defensive strategies more viable, whereas Melee and 64 had more offensive-based mechanics that I prefer.
01/11/15, 04:52
@Mop it up
I'm pretty sure he's serious.
You know my stance on spamming, though. We disagree in that department.
But heck, we have some fun online together regardless.
