Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

Wow not only did I try the friends list for the first time tonight, I'm also using Miiverse for the first time! (on Wii U)

Lots of first!

One thing that remains constant is that I still suck as Smash, I'm really going to try and at least learn the controls this time though!!!

I sent you a friend invite!

What luck, get to witness a winless team finally win and then Smash unlocks almost a hour and a half before midnight.

Nintendo nailed the pre-download. Worked like a charm. Fucking Gamestop though...they didn't have the Gamecube adapter!!! My muscle memory on the Gamepad is abysmal!

Oh yeah this game rules. Saving myself for the Wii U version was a great move. I don't know how to use any of these people!

Can't play online atm. ISP is having a shitfest of intermittency. Yay....

Oh... NNID... Cryojin.

I was able to play online and it worked... okay, there was definitely some lag, nothing awful, but it made it feel sluggish and difficult to time hits...

still fun though, and I didn't come in last every time, I came in 2nd once!

I'm shocked at how good the online play just was for me... mostly played with the same people for about a half hour, though, so maybe we all just happened to be a good internet match for each other. It was definitely better than anything I experienced on Brawl or 3DS though. Promising!

Tomorrow, my friends and I all have the day off and are going to drink and play all day. I couldn't get my hands on a Gamecube adapter tonight, unfortunately, but I ordered one on Bestbuy.com to pick up in store tomorrow.

Net working. Smashed a lot. Feels great to have a Cube 'troller in my hands. Now to get back to unlocking stuffs....

I'm happy to hear you guys are having good experiences with online matches. That's the one thing that really broke my heart with Brawl.

I'm downloading as soon as I get out of work this afternoon and I don't plan to leave my chair once it's ready to go.

I might get it this week for early Christmas with my parents. Until then, I'm out of this thread because I'm jealous.

I'm kind of annoyed that turning off up to jump means creating a new profile for control settings... and then having to choose that control setting every single fight. Whyyyy?
Posted: 11/21/14, 17:08:13
I'm jealous of those of you playing right now! I'll be hopping on around 10pn EST tonight!

Also, add my NNID as OldManFromZelda. Thanks!
Posted: 11/21/14, 18:08:21

What, it doesn't remember your profile after each fight like in Brawl? That's dumb.
Posted: 11/21/14, 18:26:13

Well it does if you keep playing in the same match.. .but as soon as you leave, you have to re-select it again. It's annoying if I forget to do it...

Ooh, can someone test importing a character from the 3DS version? Specifically, if you import a character with custom equipment and specials, does it unlock that equipment/specials for use with other custom characters? Or is the imported character's equipment "locked" to them only?

Like, if I import a custom Mario with the Fast Fireball special from the 3DS version, can I then make a new custom Mario in the Wii U version and give him the Fast Fireball?

EDIT: Actually, can you import a custom SECRET character to the Wii U version if you haven't unlocked them yet? (This isn't a real concern, just kind of curious how it works...or doesn't).

I couldn't get the import thing to work last night, I'll have to try tonight.

A little odd that the 3DS version remembers your previous outfits, while Smash Wii U does not.
