Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.) 1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes) 2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region 3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends! 4.) Customizable Move-sets 5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS! 6.) Online capable (and encouraged) 7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros! 8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages! 9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos 10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well. Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.
The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts. Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online. Online continues to be a mixed bag, but me and my brother's net are both unreliable. It seemed to run much better with a friend, but even then we've had some problems. A few times it was slow, chuggy, and sometimes straight up unplayably choppy. I've also had many very smooth rounds as well.
Still, with our crappy connections I'm impressed it runs even this well. I need me that lan adapter thing as well. Anything to maximize performance.
I swear every round I play is just mind blowing. I had a day or two where I thought maybe I had overhyped the game, but familiarizing myself better with the mechanics, controls, characters, and stages, I can appreciate how masterful the game is.
I only got to play Abdoooo for a few laggy mins before my idiot roommate hit the power bar in my room. He uses my comp for the first time basically and he knocks the power out...ugh.
I think Cryojin tried to join my game the other day and I really wanted to play him but my friend just wanted to play the CPU. Next time!
And I need to start playing some games with some of you guys.
I'm surprisingly good with many (most?) characters in the game, though I will never get Jigglypuff or Olimar (TBH I haven't even tried him in Smash 4 yet though).
I've put hours and hours and hours into this game already and still haven't even tried entire modes and MANY of the characters (mostly new ones too!).
The game is such an 11/10. |

@carlosroxSounds like your connection might unfortunately be the problem. Most online matches I play are really fun and intense (and occasionally get me riled up). Online Smash is a real thing of beauty! I love this game (definitely in my front-runner for GOTY with DKTF) but I do think it would've been even more overwhelming if I passed on the 3DS version. Not that I regret dipping 125+ hours into the handheld version before buying this, but it didn't quite have the same impact when I was already familiar with the newcomers. All that said, I still miss some stuff from Brawl! It's hard to say whether I'll actually rate this one higher or not; I do like the battle mechanics more, and the newcomers are excellent, but I was actually a fan of Brawl's single-player mode. SSE was rough around the edges, but it kinda held the whole package together in a neat way. It also had more Mother content (*sniff* Lucas...) and more of an "all-star" feeling from the cast compared to SSB4's more eclectic (and clone-y) bunch. Its online sure bit the big one though. I'm glad they finally got that mostly straightened out, even if Sakurai's obsession with Time mode permeates most online modes like a foul funk. What a great series overall, though, eh? So much detail and work put into every one of these, it's pretty incredible. As much as I enjoy the Mario Kart series, its level of polish is JUST FINALLY starting to catch up with Smash (kudos to MK8 for doing orchestral music at last), and it's still way behind in terms of content. Smash Bros just overwhelms me with every release. |

This game just keeps on giving. Like with Smash 3DS, once I start to get fatigue, I try out one of the other characters more and it feels fresh again. It happened with Wario, then Pac-Man, and now with Rosalina + Luma. They took some time to grow on me, but the floaty, elegant moveset is fun and tricky.
My top characters:
7. Rosalina and Luma (working their way up now) 6. Ganondorf 5. Wii Fit Trainer 4. Pac-Man 3. Wario 2. Mega Man 1. Ness (when I'm not SDing with him)
I can do pretty well with Peach, Diddy, and G&W too. But right now, I have the most fun with these guys, which is why I play with them more often. |
