Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

Got this downloaded last night, fired it up JUST after Jargon wandered off. (Grr.)

Probably for the best though. How do you people play without the GC controller? It's a thoroughly miserable experience.

I'll pick up my adapter from my parents place tomorrow though. But then?. Then it will be on. Like some sort of monkey who's name escapes me.

@nate38

Ah, so you can. It's labeled differently than in Brawl so that threw me off.

I'll now direct my anger at a lack of local tourney mode instead.

Tourneys are coming in an update.

I really like this game. The stages are great.

I'm also really enjoying the game. I can say it's the first time I truly enjoy this series, to be honest.

I didn't have the "Melee in the college dorm room" experience, so I've never really had people to play against. And because a) playing matches against bots gets old and b) I really prefer platformers over fighting games, I've always had the tendency to play the platforming modes of the previous games first. And they kind of sucked. So eventually I'd lose interest and never really graduate to playing regular matches.

So here we got functional online which allows me to play the game the way it's meant to be played for nearly the first time. And the game doesn't have a platformer mode for me to gravitate towards, so I've been forced to find "other things to do". And I think the modes for Solo brawling are just plain better this time around, too. Master Orders and Crazy Orders are just really fun modes.

So yeah, really enjoying it. And it also helps that Karen seems to be enjoying the game as well. I'm very appreciative for the wealth of options for co-op play.

I miss being able to create a CD factory like in Brawl.

Instead I endured way more Master Orders than I could keep track of to finally get the song I wanted for Gaur Plains. Now that I have the amazing song unlocked finally, I'll be taking a good break from the orders before trying for the last 19 songs I'm missing.

Oh, and here's the song; though as a link in case some people don't want unlockable songs spoiled

So, are you not able to use custom controls in Smash Tour? I can't seem to select my profile...that'd be awful.
11/29/14, 03:58
@nate38
You have to press the Y button while on the Mii selection screen.
It's kind of messy.
11/29/14, 04:12
@ploot
I'm glad this option is there, but it's a pain choosing your profile again and again in every single mode. Any way around this?

@TriforceBun

Wait for a patch... hopefully.
11/29/14, 05:49
Yup, I'm hoping we get patches for not having to switch profiles around constantly and being able to restart events quicker. Fingers crossed!
11/29/14, 06:05
Also, it'd be nice if the game remembered your costume choice per character, like the 3DS game.
I know, it's not the end of the world, but it'd be nice.

Whoever was talking about input lag online...yeah, I noticed it a lot today. More than in the 3DS version, for sure. Almost as bad as Brawl at times, like a half-second before my inputs would get in. But it's only happened in For Glory so far, the With Friends matches I've played have been mostly good. And I haven't noticed any 3DS-style slowdown yet.
11/29/14, 06:52
16 matches with a person 1-on-1 in For Glory.

I won one.

@TriforceBun

Online tourneys, but not local right?
11/29/14, 08:06
@nate38i wonder if the display has something to do with it. While the 3DS isn't lag free in its display, it probably has lower lag than most TVs, plus the adsense of a wireless controller. I wonder if the display lag on Wii U is enough to put it over the edge from "playable" to "annoying".

I just didn't think it would matter that much. My TV lags at 32ms, but online it feels like there's at least a few frames of lag more than usual. It feels worse at times than Nintendo's emulation of NES Games on Wii U, and that never feels right.
11/29/14, 08:38
I haven't really checked, but is there a way to delete names? You know the names you can input rather than having your player number above your head.
11/29/14, 08:47
@Brick
I haven't looked into it yet but I think you can do that in the options or the records menu.
11/29/14, 16:58
Finally got my Samus Amiibo and am about to start a match!!

How do I train this thing? 1v1? Teams? With or against it?
11/30/14, 05:31
Wait. Can you use amiibo online against friends?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they're bringing both "Tourneys" and "Tournaments" to the game, at least according to the 50-Fact Extravaganza. The former is online, the latter is around 27:30 of this vid:
