@Mop it up Ah... that makes sense, because I vaguely remember it being a "lesser" way to do Smashes but I still used it all the time because I sucked at doing Smashes.

So happy it is easier now. Smash was never about having trouble inputting buttons.

Huh. So I'm getting a message in my replays menu that says, "You can no longer play this replay as it is incompatible with the current version of the software. All incompatible replays can be deleted from the menu." What? This means all 19 of my previous replays are gone. Did they not expect Smash Bros to be updated, or was this some sort of oversight? I had some really nice replays on there

Has anyone else gotten this message?

@Hero_Of_Hyrule

That was a warning message prior to the update. Since the replays actually just replays your button inputs and doesn't actually record video footage, it wouldn't have played out correctly with the character balances they made after the update.

Interesting. I haven't save any replays, so I guess I dodged that bullet. I hope this doesn't happen with the Wii U version.

My Gamecube controller adapter has shipped and will arrive next week, just in time for a 5 day weekend :D

The online multiplayer in this game is amazing. I keep coming back to it, even when I don't intend to. I'll just be on my couch, watching TV with my wife, when suddenly I'll grab my 3DS and hop online. Addictive fun!

Sheik just knocked out three opponents at once, and is now enjoying a brief moment of repose in Gerudo Valley.

While I was away from home for the holidays, I put a good amount of time into this again.
Played a lot of local Smash with my friend and my wife.

Unfortunately, the local lag does exist, and we were forced to stop playing from time to time due to slideshow battles, but for the most part it ran fine.

I also came to the realization that MOST of the stages in the 3DS game aren't in the Wii U game, and vice-versa. It's more than I had thought!

@ploot Yeah and I kind of think many of the new 3DS stages are better than the new Wii U stages, though some of the Wii U ones are growing on me.

I wonder if they could add stages from the 3DS game to the Wii U game and vice versa through DLC. That'd be weird but... cool?
01/04/15, 21:01
@Zero I think they should do that as part of the bonus of having both games. It would give more reason to have both.

@Zero

That'd be neat, but it's probably more trouble than it's worth to up/down-res the stages, particularly in the case of moving 3DS levels to Wii U.

I am curious though if any DLC is on the way (besides Mewtwo and the free Miiverse stage). It seems like MK8 and HW had a successful run with it, so it seems like Nintendo might be willing to try it with Smash.

@ploot

How do you have lag during a local match? I have no idea how that can happen.

I've played a LOT of local 3DS Smash, and it's never happened to me...
01/04/15, 23:14
@GameDadGrant The 3DS uses Wi-Fi for local connections, so there can be interference that can cause lag, such as routers, phones, or other nearby devices. Ploot must've had some devices around interfering with the signals.
01/04/15, 23:19
@Mop it up

Are you implying that it solely uses Wi-fi for local? Cause GameDadGrant and I played at the bar where neither of us had our 3DSes set up for Wi-fi anywhere near that place.
01/04/15, 23:28
@DrFinkelstein No, I'm saying the technology is Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi =/= Internet.
01/04/15, 23:31
@Mop it up

That must have been some seriously strong signals! I mean, on New Year's Eve, I was over at my buddy's place and we were playing four-player local matches. He has his own Wi-Fi router running through the house, his wireless cable TV signal (which was in the room we were playing in), Bluetooth syncing to his wireless sound system from his iPod, and wireless controllers going to his PS4. Plus at least 6 different iPhones from the various adults at the party.

There was ZERO lag.

I'm really curious as to how ploot (and others?) could have ever experienced any kind of lag in a local match. It's really confusing to me!

@GameDadGrant
I don't know, but it happens, and it's pretty common.

For me, it only happened maybe 5%-10% of the time I played, but I played A LOT.
You've been lucky I guess.

EDIT - I did have my nieces and nephew around, each with wireless devices, my mom and dad with their tablets, my friend and his laptop... Plus, their router is poopy. I dunno, maybe that all played a role?
I've had the issue at home too though. *shrugaroo*

The funny thing is, I hardly ever get lag online.

@ploot

That actually is kinda funny, haha. Strange that you'd have lag locally. And only for Smash, right? Huh.

Maybe it's a Canada thing?
01/05/15, 01:07
@GameDadGrant

Someone was microwaving Poutine nearby I bet.
01/05/15, 02:35
@Shadowlink

That would explain it.
