I love using the Villager. I finished a match last night by planting a tree, watering it, and chopping it down onto Mario and Mega Man. Epic.

I keep playing it each day for at least 20 minutes... which is funny because there's still just that one stage. When the game comes with all those characters and levels and items and assist trophies and content.... what life will I have beyond this? Oh man oh man.

Don't you guys think you might burn out on the game by the time the Wii U version comes out? I fear for many it will take the thunder out of the Wii U release, if they even bother getting it. I'm really on the fence about the 3DS version. Really all depends on the online.

@PogueSquadron

I haven't burned out on Smash Bros. in the past thirteen years. I think I'll be good for a couple more months.

I'm a bit worried about this as well.

The 3DS version kinda DID steal the other version's thunder. It's a much more improved version, that much is obvious, but the handheld one is still Smash 4 Lite.

It does excite me for the Wii U version though, I know that. But not everyone will feel the same. Goddamn shame if the 3DS version seriously hurts the WIi U version sales wise.

I didn't wanna get the demo because it's a form of spoiler for me personally. I wasn't sure if I wanted the 3DS version, and only reason I don't is because I don't want the Wii U version to feel a bit been there done that when I get to it. I might just get the 3DS version but not pour all that many hours into it. Be nice to save it for trips and stuff like that maybe.

I'm happy I got it though because the handheld version alone tells me how great the Wii U one will be in terms of (even superior) controls. Not to mention visuals, fps, details, 4 players, better and more music, etc. The characters control so well though, and I can't wait to see that translate into the home console version with all the great controllers Wii U will support.

Really wanna know about online play. I'm reading some promising things but don't wanna get my hopes up. Someone reliable (someone named Gema?) said there isn't really any noticeable input lag but that sometimes there's about a .3 second pause or something. It's apparently way better than Brawl (not hard to do) and is very dependent on your internet speed.

Still haven't heard anything about voice chat which is like...blegh at this point. I really don't get it.

I wonder if they didn't include Download Play (single cart multiplayer) because they wanted to sell more copies of the game or if it's just technically feasible. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the latter, given how this game seems to be pushing 3DS to its limits.

@PogueSquadron
The funny thing is the few times I tried Brawl it...wasn't all that bad. At least with a friend. I played a few times with one other friend and it was kinda okay.

Seriously don't expect voice chat to be in. It's a mix of Nintendo being stubborn and them wanting you to experience THE GAME when you play it, I think. Also, an easy way to protect mic spam and swearing, etc etc. I don't think it's a huge deal if it doesn't make it in. With friends though it should definitely be an option. I'm just sayin' usually I'd have it off but the rare time I want it on it should be there.

I'm really loving the way Mega Man plays so far. I thought I would like Villager more but I've been playing much more of Mega Man in the demo.

A wild Paleo appears!

I started off liking Villager more than Mega Man, but now that I've got a hang of him, Mega Man is really fun to play as.

@Brook

Yikes! Be gentle with your controllers, people!

Funny enough, I remember some of my buddy's N64 controllers breaking because of the original Super Smash Bros. back in the day. Thankfully, the Gamecube controllers were made of better material, so there was no issue there. It seems the Wii/Wii U controllers will hold up well, too. But the 3DS Circle Pad is taking a beating!

Can we hope that the NEW 3DS Circle Pad will be made out of more formidable stuff?

@GameDadGrant I've definitely loosened the control stick on a couple Gamecube pads because of Melee and Brawl. Maybe no controller can truly withstand Smash without some damage...

Hopefully that Wii U GCN controller is made to be durable.

You can use ANY GCN pad with that adaptor though, right? You don't HAVE to use the one they made specifically for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U?

@GameDadGrant
Apparently. I forgot about this myself.

I think the special one they're making will have a home button on it, or am I crazy?

Here's something funny: Apparently, if you play the "For Glory" online mode with Peach, and you use her move that pulls out a turnip, the server will ban you because it thinks you hacked in an item.

@PogueSquadron Nah, not likely. The 3DS game looks pretty basic, the Wii U game will probably have a lot more in it. Plus I can't play local multiplayer with the 3DS game, and the Wii U online will probably be better also.

@Mop it up

There's no local multiplayer? Even if everyone has a copy of the game?
Posted: 09/15/14, 23:18:15
@carlosrox I think there are plenty of games out there that let you talk while playing them without disrupting the game.

I'm not talking about voice chatting with strangers. I just want to be able to actually talk with a friend while playing the game.Or maybe actually message a friend or invite them to a game easily. It's 2014. I shouldn't have to set up a computer with Skype nearby to talk with someone to play a game. Hate to sound pissy about it but it's like...come on. Pokemon can do it for crying out loud.
Posted: 09/15/14, 23:19:55
@DrFinkelstein The game has multiplayer yes, if everyone has a copy. I said that I can't play it, meaning me specifically, since the couple people I know with a 3DS are not getting the game. People I know view the home systems as the multiplayer machines and the handhelds are for personal gaming (mostly phones).

@Mop it up

I agree that's a bummer limitation. I guess they intend the Wii U to be local multiplayer goodness?

It's a shame your friends feel as they do. There's room for all on both platforms really.
