Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.

I love SpongeBob SquarePants, so this Splatfest is right up my alley! I think it's a great theme since both Splatoon and SpongeBob share aquatic characteristics.

I haven't decided on a team yet. I like both characters about equally...

I definitely prefer this to the Transformers one--at least this involves something thematically relevant to Splatoon, and something good!

For the uninitiated, SpongeBob is a hopelessly naive optimist, Patrick is his dimwitted, emotional best buddy.

I think it should've been SpongeBob vs. Squidward, though, for some real opposites.

I think I'll go with Spongebob. He's got a better design IMO and I like his colors better. Also, the optimist is a great personality trait, as is being emotional (something I am in tune with) but I think the optimist is a good choice.

Oh, that would have been good! I just saw some other players in Inkopolis Plaza suggest the same thing.

Does anyone want to play Splatoon right now? I'm up for Turf Wars or Ranked Battles.

@Octorockin

Oh man I had just signed off! I didn't see this! Maybe tomorrow night?

@DrFinkelstein

Darn! I'm working tomorrow night, but I'll try again sometime next week.

I was delighted to see Mop it up join me in the good fight tonight!

And in other news…

My Body Is Ready.

It was a rough Splatfest for me. I got to Patrick King almost entirely on losses. It felt like half the time I was playing against Team Patrick, too. I would have enjoyed myself much more if that didn't happen so frequently. I hope you guys are having more success.

Wanna play this again so much.

Hyped for NX sequel.

@Octorockin

What's your Rank in Ranked Mode? As I understand it, we were paired up with those of our similar rank. I am right at the bottom of S-class which explains the tough time I had for me. Stat-wise, because it should be public knowledge by now that I keep track of Splatfest stats when I play, this is how I faired…

Total Matches to Spongebob Queen: 38
Average Win Percentage: 47.4%
Times I Was Top of My Team: 2
Most Visited Map: Piranha Pit
Second Most Visited Map: Bluefin Depot
Best Win Percentage: 71.9%
Best Domination Percentage: 5.2%
Most Points Earned in a Round: 1,560
Average Points: 1,033
Average Points (removing bonus points): 891
Spongebob Power when Spongebob Queen Achieved: 1,585

Normally my average points is over 1,000 so I felt like I nabbed that strong one but I've never had a splatfest where I lost more than I won, and hell, it's not even close usually. So I was bummed and frustrated a bit. Being an S-class on Ranked might mean I was teamed against those folks a lot, which might be the problem. I might be in S-class but it's more or less my limit I think.

Anyway, dinner time. I'm out!

@DrFinkelstein

I got back into S rank not too long ago. I don't have much experience competing in this skill bracket, so that might be why I had such a hard time.

I enjoy looking at your Splatfest stats. Thanks for sharing!

@Octorockin

If you ever want to track your own, I can send you the spreadsheet I use. I just cooked up a relatively easy thing in OpenOffice.

At the start of a match I jot the stage I'm in, then I jot the percentages and my point total after the match. I will also log if I was 'Top Dog' as I call it.

Then the sheet calculates everything else.

This was the stupidest Splatfest theme yet, but oh well, all I care about is the snails. I chose Patrick simply because pink > yellow, though I actually thought SpongeBob would win popularity. I'm not so sure it did though, as I ran into a surprising amount of team Patricks.

@Octorockin Yeah, that's about what happened to me as well. I started strong with some wins, and ended strong with some wins, but in between, all the garbage players came out of the woodwork and piled into my team and most of my wins there came from Patrick vs Patrick. It got as bad as Red vs Blue at points. It's too bad there aren't more ways to balance out the teams in these, as every 'fest I've been in aside from the first has felt incredibly unbalanced.

Something seems wrong here…

Splatfest Results…

Spongebob had 57% of the popularity. I saw nothing BUT Patrick Miiverse posts pretty much and under the Twitter hashtag of #Splatfest there was a slew of Patrick stuff. Patrick's won 55% of the matches.

So... Patrick won.

Peter and I got in some gaming tonight. It was awesome to see he had joined my games. Then I had backed out and used all my snails so I could level up some more gear and he was gone. But at some point he returned.

Sorry if you had 'just' returned. As you showed up in what I already pre-determined was my last game. I'm aiming to go to bed earlier tonight than normal.

Have fun out there man! You're always one of the top players so kick some ass!

I hear the motion control is supposed to be really good but I haven't been able to stick with it. Does anyone swear by them being better than dual analog?
04/25/16, 05:43
@PogueSquadron

Yeah, I definitely do. You can make much snappier movements and once you get it down, it's a huge improvement. Also the analog controls aren't as good due to the hardware I think. The sensitivity of the sticks makes fine tuning your aiming annoying, especially when playing a charger where motion controls really shine.

@DrFinkelstein

I'm glad that we got to play! I thought you were done when you went to go use your super sea snails, so I took a break. I jumped back in when I saw that you were still playing. You and that N-Zap '89 are dangerous!

@PogueSquadron

I have since Day 1. Motion or bust!
