Welcome to the official discussion thread for Splatoon on the Wii U!
To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!
Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.
Ancho-V Games is hitting Splatoon tonight at 6pm PST! Nintendo says it's the last stage that will be added to the game, and it looks like they're going out with a bang! I like the setting, and the environment-changing fans could lead to some tricky situations.
@DrFinkelstein I think 16 is a good number of stages for this being a new IP and all, and with the gameplay being something they've never really worked on before. I also think there is a good amount of weapons and loadouts, so I'm satisfied with that content. Where I find the game lacking is in terms of play modes and online features, but, I didn't and still don't expect that stuff to improve/change until a sequel.
I still haven't even tried the last like 4 maps they released.
This is everything now? I remember that leak we got a while back for one of the later stages, did that never come true? It seemed like a Megaton. It was labeled Wii or Mario something wasn't it?
I wanna play this game like I wanna play Mario Maker but never bring myself to do either :(
Today I was playing with a friend of mine and on Piranha Pit and disadvantaged 3vs4 from the go, I managed to eclipse 2000 points (2028). Only problem is I was so surprised that I couldn't get a picture. I'm so sad.
That's awesome! I'd like it if Splatoon had a stats menu where we could see our highest score in Turf Wars, Splatfest results, etc. Mario Kart 8 added something like this after it released.
@chrisbg99 Nice. I'm guessing you were using one of the Aerospray weapons? Those things soak up points like nobody's business!
@Octorockin I'm actually glad that Splatoon does not have stat tracking (else than tracking how many points you've racked up with each weapon). The reason is because if it had that, people would be too focused on their stats to actually help with the objective in question. I actually already run into people from time to time who seem to care only about their splat ratio at the end, and therefore they never focus on the objective that would actually win the game, such as jumping on the tower or grabbing the Rainmaker. The reason they avoid these is because the people who go for them get splatted more than the people who don't. These people never put any points on the board, and they often end up losing the game as a result. But they don't seem to care as long as they get lots of splats with little times splatted!
If they came up with more meaningful stats that actually represented doing well with the objectives, I guess I'd be more okay with it. At least then, perhaps some people would be more helpful to the actual goal at hand. But the game seems to be more casual than competitive, so it's probably still best without stats.
On that note, Splatoon could use a Team Deathmatch mode to satisfy these bloodthirsty folks.
Like you said, some stats could be objective-related. Stats like "Longest Time Riding a Tower" or "Number of Rainmaker Dunks" are two possible examples. Those might be more interesting than a splat ratio.
