Welcome to the official discussion thread for Splatoon on the Wii U!

Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.
In less-fortunate news, the final boss killed me right at the end. Gonna have to give it another go tomorrow.
That final boss! I did manage to get him on my first try, but I very nearly didn't - I was on my last life, covered in purple ink and my heart was *pounding* thanks to the music, the tension and the gamut of obstacles you've run to get to that point.
People with Chargers camping for easy kills -- as much as I dislike camping, that makes sense to me. Can't complain too much about that. People with Dynamo Rollers camping -- now that's just something people made up to piss me off.
@VofEscaflowne Yeah, the in-game exposure makes a big difference. I got more likes in an hour than I'd get on something that had been up for months somewhere else.
@mrbiggsly Yeah, which is why I said it makes sense and I can't complain about it, despite my personal dislike for camping in general. Camping with a roller on the other hand is something that I don't understand.
I'm just wondering what's the best way to take on camping Chargers in stages like the Arowana Mall: the stage is narrow, there aren't a ton of alternate routes, and you'll usually have campers perched on those platforms near the middle section, or at the entrance of those side alleys.
What do you do? Sometimes I just rush through the middle, spraying-squidding-jumping-spraying my way into enemy territory to then try to climb up to their perch and take them out, hoping they're too busy sniping people in the middle of the stage to see me. But it's pretty hard to pull off and doesn't work if one of their buddies takes me out.
I've tried that too and it's kinda tricky (Inkbrush user, here). I'd recommend forcing them out of their perch by tossing a sub-weapon up there--Sprinklers, Bombs and Splash Walls should do nicely, and I think those would all reach perch spots. Once they're forced to hop down, finish them off at close range.
I enjoy the Kraken for getting rid of those guys but it's only really an option at first because once your side is covered in ink, it's way harder to get the Kraken again.
It says Nintendo's EAD studio hasn't released a new IP since Pikmin. Which, as far as I can tell, is the truth.
edit - Or not. Wikipedia tells me they've got Big Brain Academy under their belt as well. And the Wii ---- games, which I'd consider a new IP personally.
But if you're thinking Pushmo, Rusty, Dillon, etc., those aren't EAD.
@kriswright Yep, same here. I do think it's valid to say that this is Nintendo's first large-scale/ambitious/"big"/etc new IP since Pikmin, though. Because to be honest, that's kind of what people are implying whenever they ask Nintendo for a new series--the next Zelda or Metroid, not Big Brain Academy or Rusty's Real Deal Baseball.
@Guillaume Plus Nintendogs, Steel Diver, and Nintendo Land and NES Remix if those count.
As I said in the last thread, Miis certainly count as a "big" new IP, if you ask me. They've permeated everything Nintendo and even if some of their games are on the shallow end, Wii Sports Resort certainly isn't.
Completely off topic but, would you be able to confirm your timeslot on the podcast? It might be kind of early for you but you're the sole individual who hasn't confirmed yet if they can't or can't make it.
