Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.
This game is so full of win. There are a few things Nintendo might want to adjust here and there in some future updated, but overall this game is friggin' sweeeeeeeet.
EDIT: I love all those little Nintendo details! The way the two inkling singers wave at you when they notice you staring through the window, the way the entire shops shake around when you swap between them with L and R, and how there are groups of jellyfish watching the matches. Good stuff.
Apparently the retail version of Splatoon is getting hard to come by in Japan, and Nintendo is apologizing for any inconvenience via Twitter. They promise to have more copies and Amiibo in stores next week and advice people to buy the downloadable version if they feel they can't wait. Wonder how many copies were sent out.
I'm going to head to Target in about 2 hours on my lunch break. I'm hoping to find the 3pack along with the free Splatoon squirt gun. Tentacles crossed!
I played through the first three story missions to get a feel for the game...and it's fun. I turned off gyro-aiming because, while intuitive, it's not for me.
@DeputyVanHalen I just beat the first boss too! Good first boss in terms of gameplay, I thought, and I love the look of it! So grotesque!
EDIT: Played through the first four challenges provided by my female inkling amiibo. Pretty fun for what it was, but it felt like they could have done more with it. Then again, if they had, it would have sucked even harder that the content is hidden behind a plastic figurine, so maybe I shouldn't complain.
Time to splat some stuff!
