Tomodachi Life on the 3DS

So...Tomodachi Life is a game that exists. It is rather difficult to describe, as it does not really adhere to "standard" game parameters that we know. It's kind of like a mix of The Sims, Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon and...Nintendogs, I suppose?

The game centers around Mii characters created or imported in the game by the player, and they live out their lives on an island. The player can interact with the various Miis, by giving them gifts, talking with them, solving problems, or just watching them do random stuff. And that's it. It doesn't sound very compelling, but it can be rather charming.

In any case, who else has this game? What are your thoughts so far? How goes life on your island? How goes...your friends, your drama, your life?

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

I want to try it, I watched the Direct on it and it looks SO WEIRD. But fun weird.

Doesn't it not release for another week?

I have enjoyed the demo, I will be getting the game when it's released using some of my earned credits from the DDP.

@-JKR-

I got the demo through Club Nintendo...the "Move-In" version. Which is basically the main game (everything carries over to the retail version) but with less stuff to do. Best part of this demo is that it doesn't have those Nintendo-forced limits on how many times you can play it.

Why is the demo only through club Nintendo, that isn't how marketing works.

@pokepal148

Even then, not everyone got one. I've been with them since the beginning and have achieved platinum status every year yet I didn't receive a code

I'm still confused about this game. I want it but I wonder how quickly the novelty of it wears off.

@pokepal148

It's not really a demo...more like a private beta.

It's interesting, Nintendo making this an "exclusive" demo of sorts. I don't know how I feel about it. The lack of being able to try it but knowing other people have makes me want it more in a way, ha ha. Ah, the madness of it all.

At the same time, I'm mad they didn't give me one. AFTER ALL THE YEARS I DEFENDED YOU, NINTENDO? I GET NOTHING?

I wonder if getting this demo/beta has to do with how much one uses the eShop on 3DS. Do you guys buy games mostly digitally or via retail?

The parameters of having Platinum Status on Club Nintendo and having registered Animal Crossing: New Leaf can't be the only two requirements for being "invited" to this demo/beta. If that was the case, way more people would have access.

But now I'm wondering if Nintendo tracks your purchases from the eShop via Club Nintendo, and can tell which users are more likely to go online and download something than those that adhere to the "old ways" of going to retail outlets? Because I do most of my 3DS purchases off of the eShop, I watch the videos there, I rate the games I've played, etc. Maybe my history with the eShop prompted Nintendo to give me the code?

I dunno, I mean...if defending Nintendo for years was the reason people got a code, then @-JKR- is way more qualified than I am.

@GameDadGrant

But you push for handheld gaming more, and this is on the 3DS. Since Nintendo monitors everything we say here, that's probably why you got invited. :)

Anyway, I use the eShop a fair amount, and have purchased a half dozen digital download titles instead of via cart. I also have Animal Crossing registered, and play it a ton. So who knows!

Hmm, good point! My love for portable gaming has paid off!

Still, I dunno. I'm wondering if you have to spend a LOT in eShop...like, A LOT a lot. You said you have about six digital download titles for 3DS?

My Activity Log says I've played 296 titles. So...like, not counting stuff like the Friend List, Game Notes, Notifications, Internet Browser, Miiverse, Face Raiders, AR Games, System Settings, and my Ambassador Certificate, that's about 10 less "games." Also let's not count my 20 or so retail games...that still leaves 266 games or apps I've downloaded from the eShop.

....holy crap.

I think I need to lie down.

Pretty sure registering New Leaf, being a Platinum member, and being in the US are the only requirements.

@Guillaume

That would explain why I never got one
05/29/14, 18:13
@Guillaume All three of those apply to me and I didn't get one. I think GameDadGrant may be onto something.
