This May, one game will define MULTIPLAYER FUN on Wii U. That game, is Mario Kart 8!


Mario Kart has been a Nintendo staple since it's SNES debut over two decades ago. Only two Nintendo products neglected to have an entry and each entry that has existed is a charming title in someone's eyes. Entries like Double Dash on Gamecube helped push the boundaries of creativity and uniqueness, while more recent titles have continued to refine a core experience. Mario Kart 8 seeks to continue that trend with it's jaw-dropping HD visuals, Anti-gravity racing, and incredibly well-designed tracks.


With all the characters known, the deep customization possibilities to each individual racer, the classic 32-total track count... there's so much to discuss and share and debate. Reviews are just coming in now and while I'll post a few below but they're not all gushing with pride. User Stephen recently made a thread aiming to have a more comprehensive list of reviews available. So... It's okay, just don't let it happen again.

In other news, I have decided lightweights SUCK in this version of Mario Kart, so I am using Bowser now. Toad just got beaten to a pulp if anyone in the world even LOOKED at him while racing.

Love the musical callback to Galaxy in Cloudtop Cruise. Fantastic music, man. Gusty Garden really has become one of the great Mario themes. I'm always happy to hear it pop up.

Toad Harbor might be my favorite track in the game. Love it. Kind of reminds me of Maple Treeway.

Also, how the heck do we share ghost data with friends??

There's another one (or maybe its my imagination) in one of the Wario boards. Or is it the downhill stage? I hear an inkling of Toad's Factory in there while going through the "hey, this looks like Toad's Factory" section.

and I don't want to be a wet blanket, but we really should whiz back to leakin' off about who is #1 in Mario Kart. You should record and stream some of our online tinkles..

Yeah communication errors are the worst. I've spent the vast majority of my online time in the friends only lobbies.

Sweet Jesus I played online with my bro on a team against the CPU at 150cc and it was FUCKING incrediballs (and hard too, I actually thought we were playing against humans, that CPU is smart and..."realistic ".

Our replays and stuff too was some awesome shit. Great pics. Posted a few on Miiverse.

I honestly thought I was a bit disappointed in the game but after tonight I'm fully on board and will happily shut the fuck up. I got to play with good headphones too and really got to appreciate the sound some more.

Fantastic fucking game. Can't wait to join NW in some (many) matches.

I noticed a glitch though, has anyone seen this? The Lightning only hits certain players and it basically breaks the match since those unaffected just speed waaaaaay ahead. I was on the receiving end of this as well.

I know. I played split screen with a friend against CPU and it was awesome! Toad's Turnpike in particular is great for it.

Am I the only who finds items sightly unbalanced. I've been in races in first where all I get are coins while everyone else gets hundreds or red shells which all happen to hit me in a row. But then I get races where thr CPU do nothing and I end up with no coin items. And blocking Blue Shells is nice and all, but the Box thing is so rare i'm lucky to ever block one and when I do get one I often lose it to lightning and then get hit with a blue shell.

Yeah string of bad luck is definitely a possibility in this game. I've gotten it quite badly. I did a whole lap and a half on Royal Raceway doing perfectly and dodging and blocking things until Peach knocked me with a red shell as I crossed the pit. Screwed me over nicely for the rest of the race.
