I'm one of the unfortunate people who can notice the framerate stutter every second. I hope Nintendo will fix this with a future update.

Also, is there not any way to see your win-loss record? I know you can see your records against friends, but I'd be interested in seeing total wins and losses. Mario Kart Wii had a ton of interesting stats, but I don't see anything in 8 unless I'm missing something.

You guys wouldn't want me with voice chat. The vulgarity I use I prefer remain between me and my roommate.

But man that was fun set of races this morning. Though I wish we could select any track we wanted to, it is nice that it rids the problem of constantly repeating tracks.

I'm not sure if I can swear with this game. Sure sometimes it's totally unfair but I think I was smiling the entire way through those races. It's just pure chaos but in the best possible way

Good races last night, guys! Me and Stache seemed to be exchanging quite a few shells in particular.

Game is good fun as expected. Is it just me, though, or does the item distribution seem really strange? I've gotten triple reds in 2nd and a single green shell in 12th, and I have yet to get a Bullet Bill or Lightning (and only got a Blue Shell once). I think some items are rarer, which makes the game feel somewhat less chaotic than MKW, but it also feels extremely difficult to "catch up" now if you fall behind. I'm not sure how I feel about that yet.

Sunshine Airport is terrific and my new frontrunner for favorite track in the game.

I read the entire online manual and nothing is mentioned regarding scoring.

I think I'm just going to settle on getting at least one star in every cup to save myself some frustration

Played a couple rounds with @kgtennispro earlier today. I won a few races and lost by an embarrassingly large margin in others. But it was fun. Mario Kart truly shines in online play.

Were we? Listen..and this dates back to the Wii..if someone is racing me clean (not counting projectiles from afar down the home stretch), I will race them clean in return. I'm a NASCAR fan, and "rubbin' is racin'" and all that, but is scrubs off speed for both parties and in a game where damage matters (not Mario Kart), you want to keep your nose clean and your fenders/tires intact.

I don't know what our max was online with the World guys, but it was pretty awesome seeing OVER half the room being NWers for a few rounds. I posted a video on Miiverse which was Lou's last race of the night, one where we took the Top 4 or 4 of the Top 5 (was Octorockin there?!) Anywho, Ploot stuck around for a few more races after that, and I don't think he was ramming me a bunch, and I actually LET HIM finish 2nd unimpeded, following him withe a shell back in 3rd. Pay it forward.

With that stuff in mind, I kinda wonder how a LONGER (think NASCAR) style game like this would be. I'm sure some of the allure would be lost, but I do believe that a lot of longtime/"hardcore" players could definitely enjoy it. A field of, say, 30 cars, a "schedule" for a season mode, longer races with 20-30 laps, damage that requires you to seek maintenance (like, so many shell shots damages you to the point of necessary repair, tires that wear out from bananas or unsuccessful drifts, etc.) I know it gets down to "can the system handle that?," but NASCAR has been putting 43 cars on the track for as long as I can remember; even 2 player split screen on the GameCube gave us 21 cars out there.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the way that Mario Kart runs (and what the heck is up with that 7.5, Nintendo World Report? Cripes..), and I do believe that this game is one of the best in the series. I realized yesterday that this is the FIRST Mario Kart game that I'VE owned at launch. (Nikki owned the Wii game, and the 3DS game on Day 1, too). Already 3 Star'd all of the 50cc, and I gotta go back and do two Cups on the 100cc. Late CRAP costing me a solid finish.

You can totally go into Mario Kart TV and save / EDIT your highlight reels, changing the focus (up to FOUR players), the length, and what types of actions you want featured. Its pretty neat! I farted around with it a bit; I "made" the one thats on Miiverse, check it out!

ALRIGHT, when is there going to be an Official Negative World Room or something? I saw a HUMUNGOUS LIST of other Tournaments / Whatever, but I don't believe we have anything in there. Does anyone know how it works? Is it just a glorified "Friends Room" that is always open? That list is freakin' massive..

I also came to the conclusion last night: "Negative World is pretty good at Mario Kart" (!!)

Called my GameStop guy and asked him how Mario Kart has been doing, comparatively. Mentioned it being similar to Pokemon releases; they're out of bundles, though they aren't selling many individual systems to be bought with the game. Just brainfood is all, not sure how much weight we wanna put on this, but I think its safe to say that Mario Kart 8 has sold 12 million copies since yesterday.

Remember--if you 3-star a higher difficulty (100, 150), you get 3 stars for all difficulties below it in that cup!

Good races anyway. I'm not sure if there should be a separate online race/battle thread or if this one would suffice. What do you guys think?

I'm in awe wwith myself over how bad I am at this game... always in about 8th place, only finished in first once. I'm quite good at previous games in the series!

I have to say, I wish there were a way to play with fewer people online. 12 is too chaotic.
