Paper Mario on the Nintendo 64
9.03/10 from 46 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Paper Mario on the N64!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

I'm not sure how much press Paper Mario got compared to Super Mario RPG (a game which seemed like EVERYBODY played), though its availability (being well more than SMRPG's legendary hard to find "gotta have it" / stupid expensive status) may've -- in a way -- lessened its impact. It was the first game in a long line of 2-D RPG outings for Nintendo's Favorite Son, and showed us that typical bad guys can be good sometimes, too. "Koopas and Goombas, living together, Mass Hysteria!! --Peter Venkman playing Paper Mario) Who is your favorite support character? How do you feel about the Badge system compared to other RPG's mechanics?

We've completed the course for Paper Mario as our sixth (wow!) official Epic Center game; Golden Sun is next. You'll notice our "leaderboards" below which were tracking the progress of the participants. If you missed the EC run, and you'd like to play on your own as if it were being done LIVE! for you, simply click on WEEK 1, WEEK 2, etc. and follow along that way. This, of course, is also the destination for the continuation of Paper Mario in the Epic Center, for those who did not finish. You can do it, dudes!

------------------------------

Coming off the radical heels of Super Mario RPG (another classic we hope to dive into sometime int he future), Paper Mario squished Mario flat and let him go through a brand new world seeing things in a whole new perspective. It was a game that I personally only got to once, and there were some issues with the game that wore on me a bit, but those were different times.

I DID IT! It took me 25 hours of long hard work but I beat it!

I enjoyed it. It was a fun RPG but it went so slowly at the start and some of the areas seems badly paced. Most of the partners were useful (barring 1 or 2) and the badge system, while painfully limiting, was nice to mess around with. However, if I was given the choice between this and TTYD, I would pick TTYD every time. It just has a much better overworld, a much better combat system, more varied side quests and partners, better story and much better music.

Sorry I didn't get around playing other than the first week. I don't think I commented though.

I guess I'm not too good on keeping up with these. I end up playing something else and I honestly mean to catch up and before you know it too much time has passed or the playthrough is over. Oh well. That's how I roll, I guess.

You're still welcome to finish it and comment on your progress. I plan to go back and finish Ogre Battle sometime, maybe for backlaugust and i'm gonna still comment on my thoughts after each week or so.

Oh cool! I'll fix it up there.

Now go back, join Ogre Battle, and rip through that one, too! YEAHHHHH.

Never played it. Owned it TWICE (N64 and VC) and never freaking played it. So terrible...
