Game so far is pretty fun... very easy to pick up and play for little bits at a time. Backtracking (if you need to) is painless, as you can turn off the random encounters. I'm enjoying the depth and variations of the battle system. Battles don't have to be the same every time if you don't want them to be!

I actually had the game freeze on me in the middle of a battle today. I was forced to power down the 3DS... I hadn't turned it off since launch! Boo! Hopefully this doesn't happen again but I guess once in 30 hours of gameplay isn't too bad.

I want this game so badly but dammit I have to finish my backlog, it's killing me!

@deathly_hallows

Screw the backlog. You'll get it eventually anyway so get it now!

Oh and has anyone noticed a bunch of information about skills being totally wrong when actually using them in battle? I've noticed a bunch for this one job where the effects are way off. Kind of annoying...

@VofEscaflowne

Like what, specifically?

@Guillaume

I've only noticed it with the Pirate job (not sure if those are spoilers but just making sure) but it has a bunch of skills that debuff enemies. Some say it reduces 25% defense/magic defense per shot for a maximum of 75%. I tried it and the first shot is 75% right away. Another skill increases your attack by 50% but using it shows up as 150%. These are all in my favor so I shouldn't complain but still Also another skill for the Time Mage says it affects your party but it's a skill that's made to be offensive so I was a bit confused. I've also noticed a skill for the Valkyrie where the menu description and battle one are different.

These aren't huge problems so far thankfully but still odd to see. I doubt this'll get patched...

I think you're just misunderstanding how the game displays buffs and debuffs.

You're at 100% power usually. You get a 50% increase. What's your power? 150%.

From 100%, you get a 25% debuff. You're at 75% power.

I haven't unlocked the Time Mage and that other one yet either, I can't explain them, but maybe it's again a misunderstanding?

@Guillaume

Hmm, that could make sense but if that's the case, the skill that reduces by 25% should list the enemy's at 75% upon first hit, no? It just immediately lists it at -75% instead of gradually going down each shot like it should.

EDIT: Hmm, nevermind... I could just be mistaken with that then. It's at 75% after one shot.

I'm not there yet, so I can't see for myself. I need to play more!
02/13/14, 16:38
Yeah nevermind all that. I just looked at the stats wrong. Move along!

I grabbed this the other day.

Does anybody else think they've tossed too much "stuff" into this? The friend summon is like a win button, and there are those drinks that you can pay real money for... The Job system and specials are super-cool though.

To be fair, I'm not very far into the game. Maybe the friend summons won't be the all-powerful things they are down the line.

Another note: I don't really enjoy the way the characters talk. I get that it's supposed to have a medieval/retro FF vibe, but the dialogue is genuinely boring.

I do like the art direction and the music, though. I'll keep at it.

@ploot

Yeah, I've been fast forwarding through the dialogue. It's pretty dry. The party chats are actually more interesting than the main story dialogue.

I just came here to say that I literally laughed out loud at Ringabel during a party chat. Definitely took me off guard.

Yeah, the friend stuff can easily be abused early on. My characters are at level 36 and I'm stuck with a bunch of friend summons that are below level 13, making the completely useless. I only have one friend who is a higher level than me at this point.

I don't even bother with the Abilinks/friend summons. Unless you're playing with someone and keeping the pace with them, it seems pretty pointless. It's helpful if you're stuck, sure, but I just see it as an easy way to unstuck yourself if you're having trouble in an area. I've been playing on hard and haven't grinded so far so the difficulty has been just about perfect for me I think. I don't use the SP drinks either since I hate to rely on something that's so limited and of course won't bother purchasing them.

@VofEscaflowne

Yeah, I used it once or twice when I was in the early stages of the game.... but now every friend summon I have is incredibly weaksauce. And the abilinks seem pointless as well. Oh well, at least the battle system is enjoyable at its basic level.
02/15/14, 17:43
@TheOldManFromZelda

Abilinks is useful if you want to coordinate with friends so that you work on leveling up one job while your friend levels up the other. That's fine and all but I'd rather do the leveling up myself honestly. It's what these games are all about!
02/16/14, 01:46
@VofEscaflowne

I agree. These games are meant to play alone! I only really appreciate the friend stuff for rebuilding Norende.

Is anybody else breezing through the story?

I'm constantly leveling up my jobs, that when I come to a new area I generally one-shot the enemies. Sort of makes my jobs useless.
02/18/14, 03:59
@ploot

New areas are usually tough enough for me, though two of my physical damage characters aren't using shields so that doesn't help. I'm also playing on hard and enemies are quite tough at times and can often one shot kill me. I'm quite prepared for it anyway as my White Magic heals a ton anyway and I often have to do it. That's quite alright as I can use the weapon special Rejuvenation to replenish myself

I just went through a series of difficult sidequest bosses. Some of them I took down using my entire's party offfense/defense but others I feel like I cheated a bit with one of my jobs being a bit broken... if you can call it that. I could have done it with my eyes closed really but trying to keep my entire party alive was quite the challenge. Some battles would last me around 20 minutes Fun though!
