12 hours into this, and I'm just dropping in to say that UnEpic is pretty good. From a bunch of indies who had originally made the game in ...Spanish I think, they did a really good job with the English. It's dubbed and everything.

It's about this session of tabletop gaming gone wrong, one of the players leaves to go to the bathroom and finds himself in a mediaeval-dungeon, lost and confused. He thinks its a hallucination, and plays along, making Star Wars and Futurama references as he goes. At one point, his mom calls on his cellphone and asks if he's going to be home for dinner.

There's a glitch where sound or music layers will sometimes stack on top of each other, and you'll have to trigger an event that involves the "stop all sounds" algorithm to fix it, but it's forgivable considering that the rest of the game holds together really well.

Okay back to me sinking more hours into this.

What type of game is it? Can you tell us more, those who don't know much (if anything) aboot it?

I've put a couple of hours into it, and it's a 2D side-scrolling dungeon crawler, with a good dash of 80's/90's video game humor thrown into the mix. I played to the first save point, and I fully intend to sink more time into it. It leans toward the hardcore crowd (they recommend you make your own map!), and it has a super-sized 2D Metroid map feel.

Overall, I'd say if you think it would appeal to you for what is seen in previews and videos, you're probably OK following your gut on this one.

Get it. 10 bucks. Greatness. Get it.

Unepic plays like a Metroid RPG. You've got melee weapons, magic, and bows. You've got a character sheet, and although level ups are pretty slow (think 7th Saga slow), you get a generous amount of points with each level gained, and no set of customizations seems to lead to a "dead end" where you'll feel compelled to restart or respec. That's not to say that every possible spec will feel right, however, and there ARE items available early on that allow you to respec if you want.

There's a strong "Diablo" influence, particularly in the sword/mace/axe mechanic. Hint: Take an axe for your melee weapon, it doesn't matter if you put points into it or not, but it will save you the trouble on switching between a blade to kill satyrs, then switching to a blunt weapon to break the barrels behind them.

I would implore everyone to get on their site forums and bother them (politely) about adding multi-player to the Wii U version. The multiplayer portion is currently still in beta, but it's playable on its other releases at this time, and when compete, would make a great addition to the end of the story mode.

I got UNEpic when it was on sale a coup months ago. Really played it for the first time today and am having a blast with it. Really curious to see how the gameplay holds up over a few hours.

I'm a few more hours into it and still having a good time with it. I'm not sure why it got such middling reviews. It's a quality title for the price.
