StreetPass games are evil. [roundtable]

I know, I know. They're fun. They entice you to walk around with your 3DS. They're 'social'. Some the newer games actually have pretty fun mechanics...

But they are evil. StreetPass games are choking the life out of 3DS multiplayer gaming. At occasions where people could be having amazing EIGHT-player Mario Kart matches or fantastic TEN-player Band Brothers sessions... they are spending thirty minutes getting fucking puzzle pieces. Not even piecing together the puzzle! Just getting the pieces!

Yea, StreetPass games are evil. And I know that it is hard to fight the temptation, brothers. I've felt it, too. But next time you see that alluring little green light, instead of retreating into your solitary StreetPass shell, why not venture outside of your gilded cage, and engage the world, instead?

(In a multiplayer Mario Kart race, I mean.)

@canonj That might allow for a few more, but I highly doubt it has enough memory to hold over 100 and certainly not be unlimited. There are already a lot of other things that get stored to system memory so they can't reserve too much for StreetPass. I guess ideally they could let you choose how much space you want dedicated to StreetPass... but that could probably cause some problems too.

I love them so much. Flower Town and the mansion game are better than Halo and GTA combined!

@-JKR-

I agree!

@Shadowlink

Well that's understandable. Landing headshots wasn't working out for you maybe planting hydrangeas will.

@Stephen

I can do both

You guys are 30% of the way through a design doc for Water Warfare 2.

I DO think that the 10-person thing is a technical limitation, since the Streetpass stuff is stored in RAM, but they should release a patch to allow you to use the SD card to jack up those numbers. That would probably solve a lot of this issue.

@Stephen
Actually, the array of new hats and outfits (and puzzles) are a pretty decent carrot. Plus, some of the new games are genuinely fun in their own right, unlike the first batch.

@nate38
Dude, I loiter around Mickey D's SO MUCH. I always try to look like I'm doing something else.

@ploot
Now this man knows what's up! StreetPass games have made each Negative World meetup 8-13% less fun.

I haven't got a StreetPass in over a year, so I wouldn't know!
Where do you live? I almost feel like passing by just so you get get a streetpass. Must be a desert or nuclear bomb test site or something.
Nah, then he would've at least been able to StreetPass Rick Jones.

Oh don't get me wrong, I am not saying that the content isn't compelling. It's just that the focus is to implement streetpasses in such a way that people want to get streetpasses and thus alter their behavior to take their systems with them when they otherwise wouldn't. The biggest advantage smartphones or tablets have over Nintendo in the portable space right now is that people carry those on them anyway and they might not necessarily carry their 3DS. People take their phones with them regardless of where they are going or what they are doing. Dedicated handhelds though are taken if people anticipate they will have a chance to play them. Putting the streetpass system (and pedometer/play coin system) is a way to condition the user such that they want to bring their 3DS with them when they get groceries because they might get a streetpass or a couple playcoins. Once they have people carrying their portables more often they are more likely to play them over any phone games they might otherwise have spent some time with.

It's a pretty smart feature but because I know that's what the end game is I find myself less inclined to give features involving street passes anything more than a passing glance.

Well guys I finally "conquered the world" in Warrior's Way last night, and after all these months of toil and struggle and enduring the frustration of watching my army tick up by 20, or 50, or 200 soldiers on most days, when literally a million soldiers was need to win, I can safely say:

IT WAS NOT WORTH IT oh God I feel so empty inside...

@deathly_hallows
I'm on the second quest, I agree, totally not worth it, but I can't stop till I finish it completely.

@anon_mastermind
You're going for the "conquer the world twice" plaza ticket?

Hmm... I've thought about that, I might do it... never mind I have a ton of extra tickets right now and no hats that I want to spend them on? When are they going to add more hats?

How much do these new street pass games cost? I rarely get any passes unless I go to the mall, and even then it's usually just 1 or 2. I doubt it would be worth it to pay money for any games I could barely play (yes, I'm aware I can use play coins, but I use those to purchase puzzle pieces since again, I rarely get street passes).

@cooliocuneo

15$ for the whole bunch or 5$ per game if I'm not mistaken. But I honestly have no idea how to get the whole bundle. It's like a trick question with the rabbit and I guess he offers it to you... stupid if you ask me cause I've tried a few times and just gave up on it.

@VofEscaflowne
Maybe the bundle expired? The bunny used to be easy going!

Love the bunny, I wish he was the entire eShop. I wish the eShop looked like an old-school game store with boxes on the shelves and you had to carry them up to the bunny clerk to check out.
