Never in our lifetimes did we expect Mario and friends to ever utter the sounds of our purring feline friends and yet here on November 22nd, we all will get that chance. Luckily from what many reports say, Super Mario 3D World is an incredible platforming experience that not only looks great in HD but it plays great with the gamepad.
This game is a first in another way as well, with it being the first 3D Mario title to feature simultaneous multiplayer. Now you and your family or friends can run and stomp and pounce together while fighting all sorts of enemies, new and old. Many power-ups make a return but plenty of new ones are featured as well.
There is no doubt about it; the music and graphics look great and this holiday season it's going to be a system-moving release.
Who out there is buying? How many spoilers have you allowed? (I accidentally saw some big ones just researching images for this thread!) What are you most excited for? Soon enough, share your thoughts and tips and tricks!
Please be conscientious to big spoilers once the game releases. Discuss the game openly but spoiler tag any unlockables or be sure to denote when you're talking about late-game content with perhaps a World 7-5 type bold note ahead of a level-based discussion.
Don't forget to update your Negative World catalog for this game! Do so right here!!
Enjoying it so far. Again, that feeling of "one more level" seems to permeate the game. I don't know if that's a bad thing (in that the levels are maybe too short?) but by the time the level is over, you just want more. I can't wait to get into the more creative parts of the game, as the first two worlds are admittedly pretty basic so far. I will admit, I'm having a lot of fun finding all the green stars though. Some of them are hidden very cleverly.
Also, the double cherry? I wish this thing was in every level.
I'm also really liking the Cat Suit a lot more than I thought it would. It does what every great Mario powerup does - it empowers you and makes you miss it when you don't have it. Like, when you don't have it, you feel like you're probably missing out on parts of the level. And when you get it, you feel great because that "part of you that feels missing" is whole again, haha.
Bad news, folks. I just checked Gamefly to see if this shipped to me (it has) and look at the review score:
Apparently this game sucks. I guess we were right to want Mario Galaxy 3, because this piece of trash isn't even worth the postage it takes to get it to my door. I'm just going to send it back when it arrives in the mail, would be a waste of my time to even open the envelope.
For shame, Nintendo. You had a shot and you blew it.
I figure it might be more fun to not obsess over the green stars, gold flagpoles, and stamps... I mean, I'm going to be playing through with multiple characters anyway.
@Hinph What are gold flagpoles? How does that work? Mark for spoilers if you feel it's necessary, but you got me curious since I don't think I've heard about those before.
Do you have 3D Land? For 100% completion, you needed to reach the very top of every flagpole in the game (when you did, the tip of the flagpole was golden on the map screen). Doing so unlocked something, I don't remember what.
BUT, before unleashing your OCD tendencies, bear in mind that making sure to get the tip of the flagpole every time the first time around was pointless: once you finished the game, you needed to play through again with a second character for 100% completion.
By obsessing over the gold flagpole the first time through, I just ended up going through some levels more times than needed.
@Guillaume Sadly I have never gotten around to getting 3D Land. I only ended up getting New Super Mario Bros. 2, so SM3DL is still on my general wish list.
Thanks for the info! Sounds like something I'll enjoy collecting, that's for sure.
I'm surprised at just how horrible I am at this game compared to 3D Land. I'm dying way more than I imagined I would, and the green stars seem to be much less obvious to spot. Good.
I do have to be honest. I wish I could play this in stereoscopic 3D.
