Wii U owners: How much do you use Miiverse and why? What do you like/ dislike most about it? [roundtable]

I love Miiverse. I think Nintendo really nailed it when they included this online community feature on day 1 of Wii U's launch. I regularly post on Miiverse and have really come to appreciate the recent addition of tags to post stuff like impressions, questions for other users, brag about your accomplishments, and more! (There can even be game-specific tags like Pikmin 3's creature photography). The fact you can easily attach screenshots is pretty awesome, and it's easier than ever to post since you can use a USB keyboard on the Wii U or access the web browser version on your computer. I've also been able to interact directly with game developers themselves! In short, I've found Miiverse truly has enhanced my game playing experience.

However, I notice that there's a wide range of activity use among everyone on my friends list. Some of you post on Miiverse regularly, others hardly at all.

Do you post on Miiverse often? Do you prefer to just browse through and see what people are saying about certain games? Is Miiverse lacking something you want, which in turn leads you to use it less often?

I started strong, but now I just post when I find something funny or amusing. I don't post accomplishments much because I'd rather put that on Twitter or here. I like it though and... I'm not quite sure why my interest is semi-wained.

I use the Tingle Bottle feature to put out silly posts from time to time. I enjoy reading the Negative Worlders on there. And I do enjoy the artwork that pops up.

It's a good feature, for sure, but nothing earth-shattering. I'd trade the Tingle Bottle for a revamped Tingle Tuner compatible with 3DS, for instance. And I'd trade Miiverse entirely for the ability to play Nintendo Land online with you guys.

I love Miiverse, I'm on it every day on Wii U and sometimes on my laptop at school. It's become a really fun place to interact with video game fans. No bullshit, just straight games talk. A lot of users are on there and can help you out in a pinch. I love the screenshot feature, and the "yeah" system. I like the integration in games like NSMBU and Nintendo Land. Now it's pretty fully functional, you can cross post to other social networks (though not via Wii U) and the character count has been upped significantly so we can have actual discussions now. And the drawings are just icing on the cake.

I'm a big fan of Miiverse. Its actually the top feature of the system for me. HD, touch screen, and motion are nice but I've been using those features for some time now. Having an integrated social system with all of your games is fantastic and its a shame Nintendo doesnt highlight it more in their marketing.

Taking Simba's advice, if you have put your Wii U username in your system codes at NW it will now link to your Miiverse profile.

You can also view everyone who has a Wii U username listed in one place right here complete with, again, links to the Miiverse profiles.

Ah, makes me happy that so many of you share the same appreciation for the service as I do. Of course, there's always room for improvement, and it's great that Nintendo seems to be staying on top of making Miiverse better and better all the time.

I also like to watch the Wara Wara plaza from time to time and check out the most liked Art Academy works.

My only complaint about Wara Wara plaza is sometimes I'll see something cool on my TV, then I switch the view to the GamePad so I can actually can on it to see the Miiverse post, but by that time the highlighted post is already gone!

I just wish Capcom would allow for screens of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate...

Yeah, and it's not the only game that doesn't have screen sharing. Darksiders II comes to mind.

@Mop it up

Yeah, I don't think Miiverse would ever replace an actual gaming forum like Negative World, but it makes a nice supplement. The biggest advantage it has over any gaming forum is the broad audience, and like you said, you know the audience pretty much exclusively consists of other Wii U players.

Miiverse has shown me how most people who own a Wii U seem to enjoy it, which gives me hope that the Wii U can recover from its sales slump because it seems to be a product people enjoy if they give it a chance.

Yes!

@nate38 and @Abdooooo

Yeah, Nintendo really should emphasize the unique level of interaction Miiverse brings to the Wii U gaming experience and use it as a means to sell the system. Just keep getting the word out!

@Mr_Mustache

It's too bad you've run into that, though thankfully I don't see too much of that 'begging for follows' stuff (just ignore it), and in general I haven't been exposed too much spoiler stuff. I always make sure to spoiler tag my own stuff if there's even a slight chance it could ruin someone's surprise.

@DrFinkelstein

Maybe it's because I'm not a Twitter user that I am more drawn to using Miiverse heavily? I don't really get Twitter, to be honest; I have an account and follow some of you guys on there and check out the tweets every few days or so, but I don't really know what I'm supposed to do there or who I would even be trying to reach.

@Zero

Cool!

I like Miiverse a lot actually. The heavy moderation right off the bat, has ensured that it's a wholesome place where people can safely exchange ideas and criticism about their favourite games, and now even just share status updates by posting to their timeline, posting from a smartphone/computer, and sharing their posts to other social networks.

Is there no way to search for communities? I don't see one... do I really have to go through them all to find one? They're not even in alphabetical order!

I'll let you know my thoughts on Miiverse next month when the service is added to 3DS!

Love it, but is there a way to sort the activity feed? With achievements for certain games, it would be nice to be able to sort between which sort of messages you want to see on the feed.
