Woo, just "beat" Ghosts n Goblins. I can only imagine how angry I'd be if I wasn't aware that the game sent you back to the beginning the first time you beat the end boss. I'm feeling very confident that I can do it again. I guess it's a little bit harder with more of those annoying flying enemies, but nothing I can't handle after beating that last level.

I did purchase S G & G on the Wii U VC and I am planning to play it. However, I am going to be busy the next few days (including work travel), and then there's Super Mario 3D World coming soon. But I still plan to play this for November!

@sirmastersephiroth

I think it would be great to include in the OP that this game is available on the Wii and Wii U VC.

Really having a tough time with Stage 5 of Ghosts n Goblins. I was stuck with the axe which is really slow and makes it very hard to take down these enemies that need 10 hits to kill. I had to willingly switch to the crappy fireball attack because it shoots faster, but that makes everything else all the harder. But I did manage to get farther than I had been able to with the axe. Still haven't quite made it to the boss yet, but I think I'm close.

Wait, you can switch weapons?

@Jargon

Congrats!

@roykoopa64

Well, I mean I picked it up whereas I'll usually jump over it.

And thanks! Unfortunately this game is by no means a cakewalk the second time through like Super Ghouls n Ghosts is. I'm having a very tough time with the second level again. Stupid seaside town.

I've been pretty busy lately but slowly working my way through, finished stage 4 tonight.

@Jargon How many stages are in that game? I really wish that my restore point hadn't gotten lost.
11/19/13, 08:52
@Zero

6 or 7 depending on what you count as a stage.
11/19/13, 14:46
Hmm. I wonder if it is possible to download restore points online. I guess I could just start from the beginning again, but man.

Was the seaside the toughest stage for you? I actually got past that last time...
11/19/13, 18:11
@Zero

No, the last full stage is ridiculous and the hardest stage I've played in any video game. But the seaside town is definitely harder than some of the stages that come after it and really annoying. Particularly because of the constant stream of birds. A lot of times you just have to hope they come from the side you're facing when you're fighting one of those ogre guys or you're screwed.
11/19/13, 18:56
Finally got past that stupid Stage 2 again. I can do this!
11/20/13, 05:49
Back to Stage 6. Just a matter of time now!

Is this thread going to be updated? @nate38 should be on the Awesomer List already. Also think OP should mention this game is on Wii and Wii U VC for those who don't know. It would also be nice to list who is participating.

-------------

Anyway...

I started the game last night (Wii U VC). Yep, this game is hard, without a doubt. People speak the truth when describing this game's difficulty. Keep in mind I just recently played the NES game for the first time.

I guess I made the rookie mistake of starting on Normal difficulty instead of Easy (or Beginner, whatever it's called)? Well, I'll keep giving it a go at this difficulty level.

I feel like it's an achievement just making it past the first stage, haha. The first boss was much easier to kill with the right weapon (I used the standard lance). When using the flame weapon, I didn't stand a chance.

Compared to the original NES game, I like the new feature with different kinds of armor that also enhance your offense. It's too bad the new armor doesn't provide an extra layer of HP!

I'm on the second stage and the music is pretty cool on this haunted ship (those pesky ghosts!). The pink enemies hiding in the chests are rather creepy.

I also thought, initially, that treasure chests popped up randomly, but I have a suspicion there are actually ways to trigger them to appear?

Learning how to properly double jump is a huge part of getting through this game!

@roykoopa64 The key to SGnG is getting a good weapon and holding onto it. The arrows/crossbow thing is just beast for most every challenge in the game. Meanwhile the flame sucks.

As for chests, I think they appear when you double jump in certain spots. Weird, but they never seemed to come out unless I was in the air.

Wooooooooooooooooo!

The monkey is off my back! Ghosts n Goblins is defeated! With the true ending!

Not sure if I get a spot on the list of Awesomest since I beat Super Ghouls n Ghosts years ago, but regardless, I certainly feel awesomest!
11/22/13, 06:43
I fell behind playing this game (Super Mario 3D World was released, did you think I was going to stop playing that??), but I have made it to stage 3 now. I got past the lava section (those were some tricky jumps!):

and am now scaling this cool-looking tower thing:

@nate38

Cool, I am now realizing how useful that weapon really is!

@Jargon

Nice! Looks like SMS added you to the list.

Alright, put me on the List of Awesome for now (well, if you want to! I know November is long gone at this point). I beat the game once:

My Miiverse post

Now to do it all over again...
12/09/13, 05:56
Argh, this game.

Finally back at the end of the second run... the mini-boss right before the end boss. I don't care what anyone says, the bracelet sucks. Sure it is powerful but the range is butt. I can beat him pretty easily with homing arrows, having trouble beating him with the bracelet. If there were no time limit I'd probably be ok but I feel so rushed and he takes so many hits that I end up having to get out of my comfort zone and make risky attacks and that is when I get nailed.

Also I swear to god the mini-boss takes a different amount of hits every time you fight him. I'm not just making this up. I did a save state right before him and counted and I've beaten his first state with as little as 24 hits and his second stage with as little as 10 hits, versus over 30 and close to 20. Maybe hitting him in just the right place counts double or something? I dunno.

So yeah, I'm doing a little bit of cheating with save states just to get to "practice" on him, and I "beat" him that way, but I intend to beat that stage legit before moving onto the end boss. But damn, I just don't know what to do. Actually his second form is pretty easy because he doesn't move while doing the flames and his laser is simple to avoid, it's his first form that gets me. Anyone have any tips?

TLDR: Does anyone have tips for beating the mini-boss (right before the true end boss) with the bracelet?
01/28/14, 00:34
@Zero
1. Bracelet is great EXCEPT for against that boss where it's super inconvenient.
2. Bracelet does more damage up close, hence the difference each time. Dunno the actual damage numbers, but it's like a HUGE difference. Like maybe 5x when you right up in they grill as opposed to the full range.
3. Here's my tip: don't bother doing it the "legit" way. It took me like 3 hours.
01/28/14, 01:10
I have to do it the legit way! That's the only way!

I didn't know that about the bracelet. Hmm. The problem is it's tough to consistently get up close on that dude.

I'm slightly tempted to just do a save state right before the mini-boss... I mean, I know I can get to him with the bracelet + full armor fairly consistently sort of so it's not like it is cheating by helping me do something I'm incapable of doing so much as cheating by saving me a crapload of time by not making me redo the whole stage every time that I die. But I'm trying to do it legit.

Mostly legit. I mean, I've already cheated by doing the save state practice runs on the mini-boss, something people who beat it on the SNES were not able to do.

@Zero Bah stop guilting yourself. If it saves time otherwise wasted trekking through 3+ minutes of a level you have memorized, then just do it. Wish I had that option when I was playing on the Wii VC.
01/28/14, 05:44
Don't listen to him, Zero! Do you want to risk being turned away from gamer heaven in the afterlife?
01/28/14, 05:49
@Jargon

Yamauchi-san (aka Game Jebus) will forgive all those who seek absolution. He sent Super Guide to into the world to take up the burden of our many failures.
