Wii Fit U, where fitness is fUn. No that's not their actual slogan, nor would it ever be a contestant for one, but from my own personal experience, Wii Fit has always been a fun and engaging experience. Where the series lacked in the past, challenge of keeping up your daily life with the game life, lack of variety over a long term, and ability to connect with friends,.... the new version for Wii U seems to be correcting all of this.

Fun Fact: There's three tiers to how you can purchase this game. You can either...

A.) Demo the game Nov. 1st and buy a Fit Meter to secure the game for free. The Fit Meter costs $20.

B.) You can buy a Fit Meter and a disc copy of the game for $50. I believe that's on December 13th.

C.) You can buy the disc game, Fit Meter, and the Balance Board for $90 dollars, also December 13th.

For more information, check out Nintendo's webpage for Wii Fit U.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

So...have people left our gym? It only showed five people in there last night (including me), and none of our accomplishments are posting, which is odd.

@anon_mastermind

Altitude happened once, but not the MET stuff.

@ludist210

I see seven others besides me right now.

Any advice on how to get a good score on boxing? I get almost all the most powerful hits, but I still end up with only a two star score. Sometimes the trainer says "good block" but I have no idea why. Confusing.

I'm still in the gym, but I've been pretty sick the past few days so I haven't been working out.
Should be back on the trolley tomorrow or the next day.

Of course, my Mii should still be hanging out!

Been doing this at least half an hour a day, and I feel pretty good now. I no longer get winded from quick sprints, and I'm starting to get an ever-so-slight bit of solidity in my arms. The Fit Meter should arrive tomorrow, too--just in time for the thousands of steps at Walt Disney World!

Are you moving your feet? Sorry if it's a silly question, but I forgot to actually step forward/back for the first couple times I did it. If so, you might not be wailing on it fast enough during the "throw any punch you want to" section.

@TriforceBun

Yea, I do the step. I'm unclear on whether stepping down harder means something or not.

Went to Toys R Us to buy Mario 3D World (and Wind Waker 40% off) and lo and behold, after weeks of trying to track one down, the Wii Fit Meter was right there on sale. Made away with a great haul and because of the Groupons I had and the sale, I got everything for about $70. Not bad at all.

Ended up registering the Meter to Nathalie's Mii since she goes to the gym and I don't do much exercise in the winter. I may end up picking one up for myself down the line.

Starting to get an idea of how I want to use this going forward. I'm thinking I'll focus each day on a different muscle group: legs, abs, and arms. I'll do a combination of strength exercises and aerobics. I won't do the exact same every day but for legs I will do lunges, squats, and for aerobics an island lap, alternating between jogging and sprinting. Abs I will do plank, jackknifes, twists and hula or core luge for aerobics. Arms I will do push ups, triceps, body bridge and boxing for aerobics. If I get good results in a month or two of that I'll keep at it.

This was strange today: I went to do the plank challenge and the trainer said "I'm a little off today, come back later." I immediately loaded it again and it worked fine. I wonder what that's about.

@DrFinkelstein

Am I making this up or did I see in the community that you had done some New York run or something like? Where is that?

@Jargon

There's Walking and Altitude challenges within the first part of the game, before you select the exercises. You sync your Fit Meter to catalog your distance walked and altitude traveled and it shows you the equivalent in a series of location-based examples. After NYC, I chose the Sydney Australia one. I'm also climbing some big tower in God knows where.

@DrFinkelstein

Ahhh. Nathalie is using the Wii Fit meter so I guess my Mii won't be doing those.
11/27/13, 05:37
It's very basic and unexciting anyway. Just your Mii making its way on a simple map, and the Balance Board dishing out inane comparisons, like "you walked the equivalent of the length of 22 double decker buses" or "That's the height of 48 eggs".

So do we have any idea what we need to do in order to unlock the full game? And by when? I got a balance board from a friend who doesn't use it anymore, and I'm downloading the demo right now. Do I actually need to play the demo by a certain date to enable the ability to unlock the full game by buying a Fit Meter?
11/30/13, 01:02
Is there any NW leaderboard for the balance games? As far as I can tell, the only way to compare results is one by one by selecting each Mii individually... Nintendo, really?

@Secret_Tunnel
The download isn't a demo, actually, it's the full game. You get free access to the full game until... some day soon? Then, you need to buy and register a Fit Meter to keep playing. I guess if you waited too long you won't get to try the full game, but you'll unlock it all the same by getting that Fit Meter.

@Secret_Tunnel

You need to connect the Fit Meter by the end of January, I believe. You can download the trial anytime before that I presume.

I made it past the first viewing platform of the Eiffel Tower, which is cool...but it was cooler when I really walked it in 2007. That was a lot of stairs.

Apparently this game is out now at retail and for a limited time the game, meter and balance board are $65 at Best Buy (usually $90).

Sadly, I have been super slacking ever since I decided to take the bar exam in February. But I swear once I finish I will get back into it and get myself into shape!
01/03/14, 05:49
Just started using this game's demo. I plan to go this weekend and buy the Fit Meter to unlock the digital ... "ownership."

One of the things that had me most excited about this game was the idea of competing with friends. I thought there would be like an online leaderboard where I could compare my scores and stats and such against my friend list. Is that not the case? Is joining a Community the only thing I can do? If so, is the Negative World community still active? Can I join more than one Community?

Sorry for all the n00b questions!
01/10/14, 05:58
Started back up again! I'm going to be in shape again god damn it.

I also synced the Wii Fit Meter to my profile since Nathalie was never using it. Does anyone know if it still keeps track of your steps and such when it's in sleep mode? Or do I have to press the button to wake it up whenever I want my stuff tracked? That would seem lame.

@NinSage

Yea, I think joining a community is the only thing you can do and unfortunately I don't think it's very active anymore. I think you can only join one. If upgrading to U wasn't so cheap, that stuff would be a pretty big disappointment.

I've been thinking about getting back into this once the baby's been born.

Yes, I've been using my wife's pregnancy as a plumpin' up excuse. I'm awesome.
03/19/14, 01:40
@Jargon

It should always keep track of your steps at all times (unless the battery is dead).

Sarah and I are both exercising almost every day on this. Feels good to have a little stamina for once!
