Batman: Arkham Origins Review (Nintendo Wii U) (7.8)  by

This game drops in 27 hours and change! Who is getting it?!

I'll be cracking it open in the weeee hours of Friday mernin', probably around 12:30a (MH permitting..).

Anyone have a gauge on the supposed length of this puppy? Arkham City length? (I think someone said their ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADED game had a similar size..)

As always folks, mind the spoilers.. SWEAR TO MEEEEH!

Finally got my copy today. Some kind of delivery issue delayed it a couple of days. Played for awhile and I'm liking it so far. It kinda feels like I'm picking up a game part way through. Partially because it's so similar to Arkham City and partially because you start with so many gadgets and moves.

I felt that way initially, too, but there really is some good stuff to unlock. How do you like the Unlockable tree stuff? Seems more friendly than Arkham City.

I'm gonna log some more time after I'm done with MNF, woo.

Stupid time change... Messin' up my SLEEP.

Will log time tonight. A BUNCH of it.

I don't really remember how it worked in Arkham City. But so far I seem to be mostly using points for armor. I did some in gadgets earlier, but I don't tend to use them a lot in combat.

@gojira

I'm out of stuff to upgrade, haha. I've got 3 points waiting for me. A lot of the stuff is still locked because of Story purposes; I guess I should ease up on the Side stuff.. I just got to a point where I CAN'T complete my Sidequest because I don't have a Main Story Item yet, so thats interesting. First time that came up.

Are you here yet?

Beat it last night! Gets pretty intense at the end! TIME TO DO LOTS MORE STUFF!

@Mr_Mustache

I'm in similar situation. I can't upgrade armor anymore due to story unlocks. So I've been unlocking gadgets I'll maybe use once. And I finally figured out where the first flight training is. I kept thinking it was at the batcave so I've done some training there. I guess I've just been flying right passed it all this time.

@gojira

Yeah, every once in a while I comb the entire map before taking off. I had trouble finding that first Flight thing, too. But "All Done!" Whipped right through those things, Arkham City DEFINITELY helped me out.

Played a metric crap ton of Batman this weekend and finished the story. I've heard some people talk about glitches, but I made it through at least the first half of the game without a single issue. But then that all went out the window. I started the game and started to go through a building. I eventually fell through the ground and when I popped back up everything was fine. Until later I had some lock ups.

I didn't have any problems with the flight training until the last one. I was getting so frustrated. Because I had progressed a certain way through the story there were now snipers on the roofs around where the last training mission started. So I had to go around to three rooftops and take out all the gunmen just to do a little flight mission. And with my frustration already super high I had to do the training. Which requires you to immediately dive after jumping off the roof. But the game doesn't really work that way if you're playing the standard way. If you run off a roof and press the dive button it takes a few seconds for Batman to dive. What I ended up having to do is not glide right away, but fall a teeeeeny bit then press the glide and dive buttons to do what the game asked.

There's some other frustrations I had, but don't really remember them now. Other than that I really liked the game. I'm not sure if I'll get all the Enigma stuff since it doesn't seem to all show up on the map, but I'll probably give it a go.

@gojira

Holy cow! Moving right along, eh? I haven't got to do anything lately because of Zelda. I'm probably playing some Batman tonight though.. I think I've got a while before the Story is up.

You're lucky to get through without glitches. Not sure if I mentioned it up there, or just in Monster Hunter chat, but I've had the game freeze on me requiring me to unplug the Wii U at least once every long session. (Related: happened to me with Skyward Sword on my Wii last night, too! What am I doing wrong?!)

The Enigma stuff; did you knock out all of the Towers and interrogate all of his henchmen? That SHOULD make everything pop up...right?
Posted: 11/13/13, 01:28:13
@Mr_Mustache

I did all towers and henchmen, but I guess that didn't reveal everything. But all the stuff is listed, so I would assume If I can't find it it would be easy enough to locate with a faq.

@gojira

What Enigma stuff isn't showing up?
Posted: 11/13/13, 17:29:28
@Stephen

Edit: nevermind. I figured it out. You can check inside buildings from the overworld map to see the other Enigma stuff.

@gojira

You should be able to double tape a structure on your map, and it shows you the inside of it. I THINK.

@Mr_Mustache

Thanks, I think I tried doing it earlier but couldn't get it to work. Maybe I was doing it on the wrong building or something. Reminds me of how I thought I unlocked the disarm & destroy move but didn't. Or how I kept trying to lure enemies with my sonic batarang until I figured out it only worked in predator rooms.

So now I have to track down some escaped prisoners and go inside structures to track down those last few Enigma things. I don't think I'll do much beyond that.

@gojira

I'm definitely going to log some more time tonight.. That means 2 days off from Zelda though. BLAH.

Advanced the story a bit,

DUDE. Hotel stuff was AWESOME. I was freakin' MARKING OUT afterwards, too, when they hauled Joker off to Blackgate and I heard a familiar voice. EEEK! LOVE IT. Fights were awesome, playing as Joker was pretty awesome, too. Razor cards!

Shock Gloves have opened up a whole new world of Datapacks for me, and all of the Towers have been neutralized now, too. Yessssssssssssss.

(HOPEFULLY) Finishing this game so early, I might actually get to use the NewGame+ feature!

Beat this last night (the Story mode), almost "accidentally." Didn't really I was at the point of no return!

I was SO WORRIED that I messed up some stuff, and I was relieved that I, in fact, didn't, and that there was an Enigma Handler on the bridge after clearing the game. Phew! ALSO, for Case FIles, my Interrogate button wasn't working for ANYTHING. i was freaking out for that, too, and just had to exit the game and come back. Worked then, but gave me a scare!

Haha, Batman's cape was ALLLL messed up after everything. That was kinda funny. Working SO HARD on getting this "Dark Knight" thing, but I gotta clear a few more Tasks!

15 Blackgate escapees to go, nothing else on the immediate horizon!
