Gamestop just cost me $200... [roundtable]

Well, not really. But after getting absorbed into TVTropes.org for hours and coming across the apparent rarity of Infinite Space, I got all excited and looked up the current price of an unopened copy (which, of course, I have!). Two-hundred bones! Then I went to the archives to make sure that the game was still unwrapped, and... it's a goddamned gutted copy from Gamestop. Still brand-new. Just... kind of soiled. Who the hell knows how much I can get for it now? Freaking Gamestop. WHY!

Anyway, this is all a roundabout prelude to asking: What are your most valuable gaming possessions? Do you ever plan to sell them? Have your plans been dashed by an untimely rerelease?

Man, those boxes are beautiful.

Also, I doubt the music in dotstream is as good as the music in light trax. How could it be?

EDIT: I watched a couple YouTube videos of dotstream, and actually the music is pretty good. Completely different songs, but they're in the same style as light trax.

I have a copy of Mega Man X3 for the SNES. Just the cartridge. No idea if it's still worth anything, but many years ago it was going for $70+ on eBay.

When you say "gutted," do you just mean that the shrinkwrap is removed and there's a price sticker smack on the front and back of the case? Or did they literally take out the manual/inserts that were inside the case? Either way, that's a bummer that you missed out on something valuable.

I don't really sell games, because I find I like to replay stuff eventually. The few games I did sell, most of them I got back, though in worse condition, but also cheaper. The only time I would start selling my gaming possessions is if I were to get into trouble, which is actually a small possibility, and part of why I like to buy physical games instead of digital and keep everything.

In terms of dollar value, the most valuable game I own is probably Earthbound. It's nothing crazy, but it's more than most games, although I have no idea what happened to its value after the Wii U VC version released. Some of my other SNES games might be worth a little something, such as Chrono Trigger and the Final Fantasies, but I haven't really checked this stuff in a long time.

In terms of rarity, I have the "Not For Resale" version of Kirby's Block Ball for the Game Boy. I believe these types of cartridges were used in store displays, so there probably weren't more than a few hundred made of each game, and they were supposed to be sent back to Nintendo who would typically destroy them. Unfortunately, I don't think this cartridge is worth much of anything since it isn't a popular/well-known game.

@Anand

Well if it wasn't new and you shrink wrapped it, you'd be pretty much lying. At that point it's your own moral choice, I suppose. We didn't shrink wrap used games and sell them new, we'd just have the boxes on display and have to open the new copies so the box could be on the shelf.

@Mop it up
I don't know, since I haven't opened it. But I assume that the guts are still inside. However the shrinkwrap is missing, and the cover is a bit gunked up. It just has a security sticker. I dunno. Worse things have happened, I guess.

@-JKR-
I was just kidding. Maybe.
