I had a couple of friends (a couple) over last week-end so I went and downloaded this.
One of the particularities of the game is that it doesn't really use the TV at all. Instead, you're meant to pass the gamepad around turn by turn. All the games are team-based: you "spin the bottle" to find out who your partner will be, and then you're assigned a random mini-game, most of which use Wii remotes (so make sure to have at least 2).
On my first turn, my partner ended up being my girlfriend, something for which I am grateful. Because the mini-game ended up having us embrace each other, holding a Wiimote with both hands behind each other's backs, and jumping in unison when the drum roll from the GamePad stopped. Yup, we had to jump while extremely close to each other. Would have been a little awkward to do with my buddy or his girlfriend.
A similar mini-game had us slow-dance. Once again, I picked my girlfriend. But the second time this particular mini-game came up, I did have to slow-dance with my buddy, with the extra challenge of having to "look intensely into each other's eyes". But by that time we were a little bit more drunk and inhibitions were mostly gone... good fun!
Not all the mini-games have you embrace the other person, thankfully (and you can turn off any mini-game in the options menu, if you don't especially want to get that close to the other players.
A mini-game had the people outside the team hide the Wii remotes in the room, and then the team had to look for them. Another had us both hold the same Wii remote vertically and then run around to "drill).
So yeah. It's eally weird, and it's not something I would suggest to a room full of hetero males, but with the right people on the right substances (or people who just naturally don't have inhibitions), it can be pretty fun. I still expect that Wii U Party will be my go-to party game on most occasions, however.
