Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party on the Wii U
8.05/10 from 2 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

I had a couple of friends (a couple) over last week-end so I went and downloaded this.

One of the particularities of the game is that it doesn't really use the TV at all. Instead, you're meant to pass the gamepad around turn by turn. All the games are team-based: you "spin the bottle" to find out who your partner will be, and then you're assigned a random mini-game, most of which use Wii remotes (so make sure to have at least 2).

On my first turn, my partner ended up being my girlfriend, something for which I am grateful. Because the mini-game ended up having us embrace each other, holding a Wiimote with both hands behind each other's backs, and jumping in unison when the drum roll from the GamePad stopped. Yup, we had to jump while extremely close to each other. Would have been a little awkward to do with my buddy or his girlfriend.

A similar mini-game had us slow-dance. Once again, I picked my girlfriend. But the second time this particular mini-game came up, I did have to slow-dance with my buddy, with the extra challenge of having to "look intensely into each other's eyes". But by that time we were a little bit more drunk and inhibitions were mostly gone... good fun!

Not all the mini-games have you embrace the other person, thankfully (and you can turn off any mini-game in the options menu, if you don't especially want to get that close to the other players.

A mini-game had the people outside the team hide the Wii remotes in the room, and then the team had to look for them. Another had us both hold the same Wii remote vertically and then run around to "drill).

So yeah. It's eally weird, and it's not something I would suggest to a room full of hetero males, but with the right people on the right substances (or people who just naturally don't have inhibitions), it can be pretty fun. I still expect that Wii U Party will be my go-to party game on most occasions, however.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

Hm, does the Wiimote try to detect you doing these things? It doesn't really sound like the game is doing much besides giving you instructions.

Oh, yeah. In the "Find the remotes" games, you have to press A+B when you find them. In the "drilling" game, it detect every completed revolution. In the jumping and slow-dancing games, it detects synchronous mouvement.

And in every case, you're on a timer (shown on the GamePad), and you need to execute the activities well a number of times to succeed at the mini-game. Of course, you could just shake the wiimotes together in the jumping game and win that way, but you've got the rest of the group to keep you honest.

We were actually supposed to get one (or some?) of these guys on the podcast but that fell through. Ah well.

Did you know they created a visual-free rhythm-based sex game with Wii remote functionality? Basically two people have to find the right rhythm to get to an orgasm together. Pretty interesting stuff.

But yeah, back to Bumpie's Party... so wish that this had been out by the Chicago meet-up. Yes, I would have forced the group of (mostly?) heterosexual (mostly) males to play this game.

On two occasions I was on the brink of downloading this (once for the wine and cheese party, another for my birthday weekend thing; Lou was present for both), and the trailer made this game look SO WEIRD that I didn't even know what it was about. I heard stories, but then I thought "did they get it wrong??" I dunno.

Those would probably be fun, but I'm not sure how much Lou's pregnant wife would've liked to jump around.

--And, pffft, Lou and I don't need a game to tell us to look intensely into each other's eyes.

EDIT- Maybe I'll get it for upcoming Key Party. Probs.

I was gonna grab this (along with Chasing Aurora) at a recent gathering, but we played NintendoLand for so long that I didn't need to. Next time!

Are you getting this for our party? Seems like the perfect game for a bunch of awkward adult men to play together!

@Zero
It depends how much we drink, I guess.

Orange juice, I mean...

Actually, I'd probably have more difficulty with orange juice than alcohol.

Free update coming soon...

The new GamePad themed update of Spin the Bottle: Bumpie’s Party will be available on February 13th. The update introduces 6 new minigames focusing on the technology of the GamePad such as the camera, gyroscope, face and smile detection, touch screen and thumb sticks.
The update will be free for owners of the game, but after February 13th the price of the game will increase to 8.99€/11.99$. This pricing structure is new to console games:

We are basically trying to do “DLC’s done right”. Instead of trying to milk extra money out of your hardcore fans and early adopters, we reward them with free content. New customers will have to pay a bit more, but they are also getting a better game for the money so I don’t really see anyone losing. Says Lau Korsgaard, Creative Director in KnapNok Games.

The update will include:
-The six new minigames that lets you photograph, tickle, twist and mime for each other, bringing the total number of minigames up to 23.
-We are taking pictures of you while you play! View them later in the gallery for laughter or embarrassment.
-Lots of new bonus challenges added for even more variation.
-TV settings: finally you can decide what is shown on the TV by choosing between classic, campfire, clone or camera mode.
-Plus lots of small tweaks and fixes

New mini games:
Act like an Animal
A classical charades game! The GamePad shows a picture of an animal, one player has to mime it, the partner have to guess it. Can you mime a gorilla, a kangaroo or a crab? What about a unicorn, worm or a T-Rex?

Put your Hat on
Use the GamePad screen and camera to search around the room for virtual hats placed in the air. One player positions themselves with the hat on their head. The partner simply has to take a picture.

Footie Ball
A game of two, playing ball on the GamePad, using only their feet.

Don’t Laugh
In this game the two players are playing against the audience. The goal of the players is to look into the camera and not laugh. The goal of the audience is do everything they can in order to stop the players doing just so.

Body Twister
Player A holds the GamePad on their knee, player B touches the screen with their elbow. Player A holds the GamePad on their stomach, player B touches the screen with their nose. Player A holds the GamePad on their shoulder, player B touches the screen with their butt.

Nature Photographer
In nature photographer two players holds the GamePad at the same time standing shoulder to shoulder. They now have to search the room for a butterfly and take pictures of it. This requires tight communication and coordinated movement.

This reminds me, this supposed Chicago party needs to happen...

Once the weather is nicer, I suppose.

@Zero

Can you buy it BEFORE February 13th and get the FREE DLC?
01/23/14, 23:27
I believe so? Not sure though, would have to check the price.

Strictly speaking it's not "DLC" for anyone buying the whole package after that date, it's just part of the original purchase at that point.

@Zero

I know, but if I get it, I don't want to pay 12 bucks.
01/23/14, 23:52
Is this game fun for 2 players?
01/31/14, 06:13
Bought it on your recommendation, Gui. Was pleasantly surprised that it was translated in french. I have a family gathering tomorrow. We'll test that baby up. Also, the title screen is so hypnotizing... so many phallic symbols...
01/31/14, 13:07
@anon_mastermind
I, too have the same question.

Little known fact: It was originally called Dong Party.

@Davoid If you read some of their interviews it was totally on purpose.

...which is probably obvious, considering how erm... well, like... JUST LOOK AT THEM.
02/03/14, 01:07
We played this game at a family party yesterday & it was a total blast. Really fun & full of laughs. Would recommend this game any day, to anyone really. :) 3 flowers is quite short, so I would advise you go in the settings & pick 5 flowers instead. The characters are really funny looking & the game supports up to 8 players. That's that. Have fun!
02/03/14, 02:31
So, is this game any good with just two players?
02/03/14, 03:25
I haven't tried it with only 2 players. I wouldn't recommend it since the game always has 2 winners. So a 2 players game would mean that... everybody wins!?
