Oh event Pokemon are their own can of worms in the whole ev/iv system.

Let's use the bank celebi as an example.
My criticisms of the celebi distribution said:

Q. Can this Pokemon be bred?
A. No.

Q. Can this Pokemon be obtained through normal ingame means.?
A. No.

Q. is there any way to reset if you don't like the iv set you got?
A. No.

Q. Then is there any reason that that pokemon shouldn't be distributed with 6 perfect iv's.
A. No.
I got lucky with a gentle nature(+sdef -def) to go with the calm mind set I'm working toward (a calm calm nature would have been better but eh,) and the special def and speed I.V's don't hurt but for some godforsaken reason it's third perfect iv is in Attack.

Oh well, I mean I can't reset to get another one but at least I can breed another on... fuck you Game Freak.

This is what's wrong with the iv system. You go into these events and literally draw a straw and hope to get a good one. E.V's can be changed, pretty easily now in fact but in terms of I.V's you are on your own.

@pokepal148

But .... that's only the perspective of someone who cares about literally nothing else other than how to use this PKMN, not just to battle for fun, but to win. It ignores the collection appeal, the visual design appeal, the novel battle experiences appeal, the new digital pet appeal. I'm not saying you have to appreciate any of those yourself, but you do know there are those out there who feel this way, right?
05/24/14, 00:13
@NinSage how does the I.V. system in any way enhance "the collection appeal, the visual design appeal, the novel battle experiences appeal, the new digital pet appeal" or any of that other stuff,
05/24/14, 06:14
@pokepal148

Oh no, I wasn't listing those as justifications for the IV system. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that. Those are just reasons why event PKMN that are otherwise difficult to attain are enjoyable. However, the novel battle experiences and illusion of a "real" digital pet would actually be enhanced by that system.... just not primarily.

Hmm. Somehow I doubt that people playing just for fun are going to compare stats on their Celebis. Part of me agrees with Pokepal but I don't know how much. It'd be cool if there was some end game content that let you eventually change the IVs or nature of a legendary or something. You can totally get screwed by the current system.

@PogueSquadron

Who said for-fun people would compare stats? If you think it was me, we have another misunderstanding on our hands =)
05/24/14, 19:11
@NinSage idk my 'novel battle experience' if anything seems to have been damaged from by getting @#$%^& over by the I.V. system on celebi.
05/25/14, 19:06
@NinSageoh I was just saying that the people who don't follow that stuff wouldn't be affected by it anyway :)

I think I saw Pokemom Black 2 on sale somewhere. Is it worth getting for Move Tutor stuff? Or is there any other way of getting Hyper Voice Gardevoir and Ice Punch Primeape?
05/26/14, 01:43
Maybe you should get that stupidly rare Colosseum bonus disc so you can get a jirachi and be able to teach it body slam in fr/lg.
05/26/14, 05:45
@pokepal148

Well, novel just means new, unexpected, or unique. If that's not what you're looking for, if instead you're looking for consistency, reliability, and predictability with a certain purpose in mind, novel might not actually be what you want.
05/26/14, 07:19
I would rather be given a more blank canvas to make something novel in terms of moveset and items then be forced a certain randomly generated canvas that doesn't work for what I want.

then who are you referring to?

Also xy, Congrats, you've made it incredibly difficult to catch a tailow.

@pokepal148

I meant I don't think anyone was saying that, myself included.

.... do you need a Tailow? =) I wanna say Route 8 has Swellow hordes. Bring a PKMN w/ Sweet Scent there and you'll get one horde after another. Apologies if that info is wrong.... including the PKMN names.... I tried to do that all of the top of my head =P
05/30/14, 02:11
Took me a hell of a long time to get an Ekans as well.
05/30/14, 02:25
@NinSage I got one, the spawn rate for tailow is just stupidly low though on hordes.
05/30/14, 04:03
@pokepal148 I remember that taking me forever. I also think I didn't use Sweet Scent as I forgot to look through the PC Box by moves. Whoops.

My team is all out of whack right now. I know it has major weaknesses but I just don't know what to do. I've been using

Greninja
Goodra (already seeing my massive fairy weakness)
Mega Gardevoir
Scolipede (my only fairy counter)

And I've been trying to mix in
Altaria (also weak against fairy, double against ice, kind of redundant with Goodra)
Krookodile (like him but his earthquake is only good when paired with my flying types, or Goodra can maybe take it, maybe Gardevoir with Reflect)
Starmie (great special sweeper but super fragile)
Skarmory (not really well trained but a pretty bulky Pokemon. Haven't really figured out how to use properly)
Primeape (awesome but super fragile. Close Combat means he can't really take a hit at all)

Other "good" Pokemon I have laying around:
Umbreon
Dugtrio
Aggron (not Mega, also his attack stinks due to his nature)
Haxorus (bad speed, good attack)
Mantine, maybe?
Pyroar, meh (liked her in game though)
Tyrantrum
Emboar
Volcarona (think it looks cool at least)
Garchomp (I think its stats might be meh)
Gigalith

Just feeling kind of lost with them. Any ideas on a new direction to take?

I'm something like 8 and 30 in double battle online. I don't think that's that bad, considering I think a ton of people are super cheap.
06/13/14, 08:15
@PogueSquadron if that greninja doesn't have it's hidden ability get one that does.

Goodra: Works nicely with an assault vest.

Gardevoir: idk, I haven't had much experience with it,

Scolipede: Scizor is better at countering fairies.

Get a gliscor with poison heal (and a toxic orb), those are always fun to have,
06/13/14, 08:59
Yeah right now I have Leftovers on Goodra. Maybe it would be better served on Skarmory. Getting these items is a huge pain in the ass. I'm so sick of going through the Battle Maison. I always lose at battle 20.

I like Scolipede :(.

Greninja doesn't have Protean. I've been trying to avoid doing any new breeding, haha. I have Mat Block on him which is amazing, and sometimes use it to help Gardevoir use Calm Mind (or lately I've been putting Reflect or Light Screen on her). Honestly sometimes she seems great but other times not so much.

I feel like my team doesn't have much defense. I can never really switch in and out very well. I was wondering if I should try something like a Steelix. I've always liked it but never used one.
06/13/14, 23:26
A defensive gliscor set with poison heal and a toxic orb (which basically gives you leftovers on steroids) would be great for that.

Also a protean greninja can seriously break the battle maison.
