So I haven't post since mid-2nd case, here are my updated impressions (completed the game sans DLC).
I thought case 2 was pretty convoluted but it had a good ending with a villain you love to hate. Case 3 was pretty damn good, all around. Some pretty out there reveals (Robin actually being a girl, Hugh being a fraud), and everyone was a suspect. However I guessed from the beginning that Prof. Means was the culprit. The murderer's turn at the end was magnificent, loved the new persona. Case 4 was good, but over too quickly. Really, I think it should have been bunched in with case 5 because it just serves as a set up for case 5 and nothing more. I feel like it might have been, and then they decided to split it into two, so they could sell the real case 4 as DLC. Anyways, case 5 delivered big time. Never saw it coming that Detective Fool Bright (heh) was the culprit (Aura Blackquill seemed very suspicious to me, though I'm glad it wasn't her). Athena and Simon's tale was quite entertaining and it was nice to see them both get off the hook. I liked the overarching themes about emotion and trust, and I thought Apollo played a really solid role. Still, I felt the ending left too many questions unanswered, but I guess it had gone on long enough at that point. Oh, and it was awesome to see Phoenix and Edgeworth back in court facing off once again.
General impressions: did anyone else find that this game had less actual gameplay than others in the series? That and it was easier than the other games. A lot of times the characters give away the solutions for which evidence to present or choice to make. There were too few interactive moments where you examine evidence. I really liked the presentation and all, but I thought we could have used a bit more gameplay.
I'm looking forward to the DLC. I'll probably grab it after I get a bit further in Zelda ALBW. At this point I'd probably rate this as my third favourite in the franchise. Phoenix Wright > Trials & Tribulations > Dual Destinies > Justice for All > Apollo Justice. Very good game overall. |
