@GameDadGrant Exactly. Look at the type of games that debut at $30. Phoenix Wright is not that type. This would almost definitely have been a $40 retail release. I think a 25% price drop because of digital is fair enough.

I know that it took me from "WTF, DIGITAL ONLY, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FIND A GOOD DEAL?!" to "Yeah, I can roll with this..."

@Zero

Okey-doke.

That demo sold me. Can't wait till the 24th.

Just played through the demo. I'm loving the layer of polish on this version. Looks super slick.

Also, the heart-pounding advert at the end has me very excited.

That demo was excellent. Day One download for sure. (As if there was any question, lol)

I played the demo and it was really enjoyable. It had that feeling of Phoenix Wright that was kind of missing in Apollo Justice. Looking forward to the full game.

Buuuut... I'm really strapped for cash these days, and can probably only afford either Pokemon Y or Phoenix right now. Such a tough choice...one may have to wait until winter.

IT'S OUT GO GET IT I COMMAND YOU

7 hours in, so far so good. It's the same old Ace Attorney we know and love, but with slick new presentation. Especially liking the new polygonal characters. Smooth eye animations! SO NEXT-GEN, THOSE EYES.

Yeah, they did a great job making the 3D characters still resemble the sprite animations we know and love. It makes them really come alive and gives the game a feel all its own, and I think this is something that could've easily been botched up. I'm currently in the 2nd case.

It might be a bit too early for anyone to answer this, but does there seem to be anything to justify the fact that the ESRB switched from the T ratings on the older games to an M rating on this game? Or is it just a case of shifting goalposts?

@Zero
I hear there are a couple scenes that are slightly more violent. So far, there's been one early scene that's pretty bloody, but more in a metaphorical, surreal way than anything. Oddly enough, there's actually LESS swearing than past games. So it might be shifting goalposts, too, although I'm curious to see if later cases are anymore ghastly than the usual AA fare.

I absolutely adored the first case. This is partly due to the "ooohs and ahhhs" of the presentation shift, but it is also time for some more Ace Attorney!

I really like the voiced anime cutscenes (gives me a Layton vibe, sorta).
My one complaint so far is that they got a little too "anime melodramatic" at the end of the first case/beginning of the second. And what's with Apollo's voice during that scene? Yes, the games have always had the melodrama, but now with the anime scenes, it's a little abrasive (well, the one scene was anyway).
Anyway, I'm super-psyched to continue on!

@Zero It might be the anime cutscenes. There's a good bit of bloodsplosion going on in a few of them I've seen. It's been a while since I played the last bunch of games, but I don't remember any animated bloodshed from them, like what we get in this one. There were stains and even pools in the DS games, but I've already been a little surprised by one or two sequences that looked like something from a relatively violent anime. M still seems like a bit much, but there is a bit of a difference compared to the prior games, I think.

@ploot It IS more notably melodramatic with the new anime scenes. I don't mind too much. Though what's up with anime and women crying? I'm pretty sure every action anime I've seen has a woman crying in the opening title sequence...

Just finished the second case. I'm already clocked in at nine hours. Still loving it, but is anyone else noticing an unusual number of typos? I've already noticed several, three of which I can think of off the top of my head ("though" instead of "thought", "vail" instead of "vale", "do mind" instead of "do you mind", pretty sure there were others I've forgotten, too). Maybe Capcom went digital-only so they wouldn't have to suffer another boxart blunder...

@nate38
Yeah, that's probably what it is so far regarding the M. It still feels like a pretty light M though, but I get what you mean about it getting a "violent anime" feel at times. It's still been "surreal-style" stuff though rather than a lot of actual blood from a specific body.

The game does have a lot of typos/errors; reminds me of Justice for All in that sense. It does break the immersion a little, but I don't mind so much since the dialogue is really fun and well-written overall.

@TriforceBun Hahaha, I actually don't remember any specific typos from Justice For All, except for the one in the super depressing bad ending, which only serves to make it more darkly hilarious...

The miracle never happen. Heheh yeah, at the very least, they should make sure there aren't any typos in really dramatic moments like that.
10/26/13, 07:40
It's sad, but typos are pretty much a staple with the Phoenix Wright games.

Though this one definitely seems to have the most yet. Not just typos, but even sentences that are missing complete words. Twice so far in Case 2 I've had to stop and reread a sentence to make sure I didn't just somehow skip a word.
10/26/13, 07:44
If the melodrama is anything like the Ace Attorney movie then I'm sure I'll be I'm heaven.

We're still on the third case of Apollo Justice. I just want to be done!

@kgtennispro
Well, that's....kind of nice to hear. I would have been disappointed if there weren't any typos! Haha, they are such a series staple. The worst I've ever seen was in Harvest Moon 64, typos were so rampant.
10/27/13, 08:26
Yeah I read a pretty bad sentence already... I forget what it was but they just plain put the wrong word in and the sentence made no sense.

Otherwise though, awesome game so far. I haven't quite gotten through the first case yet but it seems dead on Phoenix Wright already. So glad that he is finally back!

Is it just me though or does this one start off a bit more hand hold-ish than the other ones did? It's basically telling me what I have to present and where a lot. I hope that is just because it's only the first case.

@Zero It's been a while since I played the other games, but I'm pretty sure the first case always points you in the right direction with a heavy hand. That said, I did take a few stabs in the dark even in the first case in this game, and got several wrong. I guess my insane Ace Attorney turnabout logic was a bit rusty.

I think the second case hits the right balance between making you think things through while the characters give you subtle hints, especially in the second half. And the final battle in court...so Ace Attorney.

If I have one complaint, it's that you can't explore every location anymore, just the crime scenes. I always liked the inner monologues about the detention center officer, and the assistant's food imaginations, and the stepladders...
