To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

The game doesn't release at retail till early October, but gamers can begin playing this title soon if they buy a special edition Wii U next week. That said, Welcome to the official discussion thread for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD! Whether you're someone who played and beat this game back in 2003, or maybe you're new and eager to get your Link wet, come here to discuss the game!

IGN.com just released their review and I believe that makes it the first review score for the title. What did they give it? You might not be surprised, but you can look at their review here. For the lazy,... 9.8/10

I have fond memories of picking the original game up from my non-standard Gamestop the night before release. They opened the doors at 10pm and let us get the game early just as the box literally arrived. I don't understand why things went down like that but I was always proud that I was nerdy enough to have been the first person to leave that Gamestop with Zelda that night. Now, I have it pre-ordered at another Gamestop, my normal one, because I want that badass statue offer. As Carlosrox continues to point out, the game looks beautiful and now that I've had an awesome Samsung HDTV for a little less than a year now, I am excited to finally embrace HD with Zelda and see how beautiful this game is at 40 inches and 1080p.

Bring it on Nintendo. I have what it takes.

This game has completely sucked me in. I've never had so much fun with Wind Waker before. I'm going to 100% it.

@Hero_Of_Hyrule

Even the figurine quest? Also, interested in being on the podcast tomorrow night? I want to talk a significant portion of the podcast to Wind Waker. TheOldManFromZelda sorta showed interest but I have no confirmations right now. Ya interested?

@DrFinkelstein The figurine quest is probably still time consuming, but way less so than the GC version. You can get 12 figurines made each day (as opposed to one on GC), you can hold 12 pictographs (as opposed to 3 on GC), and the game tells you when you take a pictograph if it's good enough for a figurine. Not to mention that you don't need a firefly to get the deluxe picto box, and swift sailing makes traveling to get pics much quicker.

I never did the Nintendo Gallery on GameCube, but I'll sure as hell do it now.

EDIT: Oh, and if you miss a one-time pictograph opportunity, you can get it via the Tingle bottles if people share it, so that's awesome. It might take forever to find the one you need, but it's better than replaying the whole game.

@DrFinkelstein

Wow. I'm honored that you would offer. Yeah, I'll be on the podcast.

Edit: I'm doing the figurine quest too. I'm not taking pictures from miiverse either.

@rebonack

I'm just glad I remembered to snag that one, nearly forgot about it. So now I can 100% on the first go around! Save the three heart run for my second playthrough.

I never even got a single figurine on my first playthrough. I know I probably can't get them all right now and that it would probably be way too hard to get them all without a guide but I'm just doing it for fun right now. It's great to just go around snapping pics and not having to worry about getting it 100%.

Also uploading pictures on the web browser is always fun. Feels like I'm doing a playthrough and showing it through the pics I take.

One of my favorites so far now

And just a funny one I thought

Such a beautiful game.

I finally started this game for the first time in 10 years.

Best thing about that long of a gap is that everything feels kinda fresh and new to me, yet familiar at the same time.

And it looks gorgeous. The facial expressions alone are awesome. I don't remember them being so expressive!

Haven't played this in a number of days. I'll try to get some time in tonight. Missing the game already.

Just entered the Wind Temple basically. I forgot how much is left in the game after that. Isn't it just the Triforce hunt and the last area before Ganon? Gotta be the shortest Zelda, and the new sailing seriously cut out a LOT of time. I think the reason I've taken a small break from it is I hate feeling like I've finished a game too quickly.

@carlosrox You could always try helping the people on windfall, getting figurines of your favorite characters, getting the great fairy upgrades, exploring the islands you haven't been to, or hunting for treasure charts. If you decide to experience everything the game has to offer, you could double or even triple your playtime.

Edit: finished 100%! And it only took me 10 years to finally do it. Now, should I go through new game + on hero mode? I've spent plenty of time with this game and should move on to other games I haven't finished, but I'll probably end up playing through WWHD again instead.

So, I actually started playing this yesterday and I picked Hero mode. IMO, Hero mode is only hard until you get bottles. I just finished the Forsaken Fortress revisited, and the hardest part of the game for me was the fire temple, because I had no bottles or potions. Though, soon enough I found a rat hole and used the empty bottle I got from Medli to get a red potion. Now, I have 3 bottles 1 with chicken soup and 2 with fairies. I'm about to get the 4th one. I guess enemies do hit harder, but I hardly get hit.

@Abdooooo]

It might be the beer flowing through my blood right now... but this makes me laugh so fucking much. Thanks for posting this tonight. So random...

I just wish they had taken Link to many more environments during the skit.

@DrFinkelstein

Hah, I'm glad it brought you happiness! It definitely made me laugh at how good the lip/facial syncing really is.

So how is everyone doing in their progress? I just made it to this boss... and I forgot these guys look like if Tingle and Pikmin made a baby,...

I actually beat the game a few days ago. I kinda wanted to go back and try to attempt doing other things (no way would I have gotten all figurines though) but I'm trying to finish Persona 4 before Mario and Zelda hit in November.

I took several screenshots throughout the game if anyone is interesting in looking though I missed out on a good shot from the final battle. I wanted to go back and get one but maybe some other time
10/28/13, 01:30
I finished the Earth and Wind Temples today and now I'm on the shard hunt. I'm wondering whether I should try to do some sidequests too since I only have 10 hearts.
10/28/13, 01:32
I tried this game on hero mode from the start, and it kicked my ass early and often. I'll be re-starting it on normal difficulty for maximum enjoyment.

@Deerock69

Pretty sure you can switch whenever you want so you don't have to restart. And while the beginning is tough, the rest becomes much, much easier as you get bottles. You can just stock up on fairies or potions.
