To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

The game doesn't release at retail till early October, but gamers can begin playing this title soon if they buy a special edition Wii U next week. That said, Welcome to the official discussion thread for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD! Whether you're someone who played and beat this game back in 2003, or maybe you're new and eager to get your Link wet, come here to discuss the game!

IGN.com just released their review and I believe that makes it the first review score for the title. What did they give it? You might not be surprised, but you can look at their review here. For the lazy,... 9.8/10

I have fond memories of picking the original game up from my non-standard Gamestop the night before release. They opened the doors at 10pm and let us get the game early just as the box literally arrived. I don't understand why things went down like that but I was always proud that I was nerdy enough to have been the first person to leave that Gamestop with Zelda that night. Now, I have it pre-ordered at another Gamestop, my normal one, because I want that badass statue offer. As Carlosrox continues to point out, the game looks beautiful and now that I've had an awesome Samsung HDTV for a little less than a year now, I am excited to finally embrace HD with Zelda and see how beautiful this game is at 40 inches and 1080p.

Bring it on Nintendo. I have what it takes.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

Now how does the rest work? Both on my Mac and my Wii U, when I link with Twitter I am redirected to a page saying Minus will be back shortly. Then when I go to Minus.com I have to sign back in. Ugh... Should I just try uploading something then?

Hmm, I was able to upload as guest...

Tech problems maybe? I didn't have any issue after I linked it to Twitter. You can always try other image hosting websites or anywhere you can upload images directly but of the two I've tried (Twitter and Photobucket), neither had the resolution or the quality that minus.com does.

EDIT: Ah okay well there you go I guess you can't keep albums as a guest though.

@VofEscaflowne

And that's okay. I want this functionality so I can save the photos mainly. If I want to post online I can always manually go to Twitter or something.

Thank you for this HUGE and awesome information!

Yeah I was really happy when the update added this functionality And really, Wind Waker is absolutely stunning. Crazy that a HD port from a game that released over 10 years ago is probably the best looking game to release this year.

@VofEscaflowne

Now mine are only coming out in 720p. I thought this was a 1080p game... was I wrong or is this simply the limitation?

I'm addicted to photo grabs now...

Even the pause screen is artistically beautiful. I love that a decade after Nintendo released an already stunning game, they made it way way better.

<3 Nintendo

Haaaaa now you know how I feel!!

Pause screen is amazing mechanically and artistically.

Another pause screen grab of mine.

What do you all think of the whole map system impelmented in Wind Waker HD? Frankly I think it looks great and is really useful. Saving what the fish says to you also is a big help. Nintendo really went all out with correcting the funny business of the original.

Pretty great. Could be a tad smoother though. Just a tad.

Compared to the original though, it's roughly 442,255x better.

@DrFinkelstein I love the map system. Having the map on the gamepad at all times is great -- especially the treasure charts. No more checking the map repeatedly after the light fades so you can see how close you are. Saving the Fishmen's advice is great too, as they give you some helpful info that is easy to forget.

So far I am appreciating the dungeons more too than I did before. I almost don't realize I'm in them and then when they're complete I don't feel that same fatigue I felt before. As I approach Jabun, we will see if this has truly changed. I found the last two dungeons of the main game to be forgetful and annoying, but with Nintendo's improvements, I might not have that same experience. I hope that's the case.

Those that could look past all the 'CELDA OMG' overreactions knew we were seeing something special, even 10 years ago.

@DrFinkelstein I think that at the very least, the Wind Waker not playing the notes TWICE for every song you conduct should improve the pacing a bit, since you have to conduct quite a bit in those two dungeons.

EDIT: To clarify, in the original game, you'd conduct the notes using the controller and then there's be a short cinematic of Link playing the notes, so you'd essentially see it twice; in the HD version, the cinematic is gone, and those seconds add up considering how often you have to use the Wind Waker in those dungeons.

Wind Waker needed a Dominion Rod more than Twilight Princess did.

@rebonack

As a counterpoint, my wife expressed disappointment that they cut the cinematic.

@kriswright

I always hear it twice in my head anyway haha

Does that mean they don't play that awful choir synth they used to play when Link plays the Wind Waker?
