The game doesn't release at retail till early October, but gamers can begin playing this title soon if they buy a special edition Wii U next week. That said, Welcome to the official discussion thread for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD! Whether you're someone who played and beat this game back in 2003, or maybe you're new and eager to get your Link wet, come here to discuss the game!
IGN.com just released their review and I believe that makes it the first review score for the title. What did they give it? You might not be surprised, but you can look at their review here. For the lazy,... 9.8/10
I have fond memories of picking the original game up from my non-standard Gamestop the night before release. They opened the doors at 10pm and let us get the game early just as the box literally arrived. I don't understand why things went down like that but I was always proud that I was nerdy enough to have been the first person to leave that Gamestop with Zelda that night. Now, I have it pre-ordered at another Gamestop, my normal one, because I want that badass statue offer. As Carlosrox continues to point out, the game looks beautiful and now that I've had an awesome Samsung HDTV for a little less than a year now, I am excited to finally embrace HD with Zelda and see how beautiful this game is at 40 inches and 1080p.
I'm all for a unique art style, but with more horsepower I hope they lay off the shimmering watercolor background kind of stuff. As nifty as it looks, there's something compelling about just being able to see a mountain in the distance and saying "Huh, I wonder if I can go climb that" - and then actually getting to go there. Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker and Twilight Princess all offered elements of that, but I don't think it has been pushed as far as I'd like. You see a mountain in the background and go "Wow, maybe I can get to the top of it," but you can never really get to do that I feel. I'm not sure if that feeling is there as much when the background is kind of a shimmering blob.
Then again, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe you can still have that kind of scope with a unique style like that. I just don't know though, because scope wasn't exactly one of Skyward Sword's strongpoints. It was a very truncated kind of game world.
Loving playing this right now, but I can already tell you that the lack of the Tingle Tuner is going to make this a problem in the Wright household. You put Steph in a dark room, she's going to fall asleep in like 10 minutes unless she has something to do. I swear, the woman is narcoleptic. It was never a problem before because of the Tingle Tuner. Now... It's like I'm playing the game by myself. And that's the reason I've had trouble finishing some of the more recent Zeldas.
WHY DID YOU TAKE AWAY THE TINGLE TUNER, GUYS?!
Apart from that, man how I love this game. And it's so beautiful. I find myself being amazed by it all over again, as if it were a brand new game.
Only if you find it in a chest. Believe it's the same exact way as the original. If you find any collectables on the ground or steal them from enemies you get no prompts like Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess.
I haven't played this version (but loved the original, it's like a top 10 game for me), but given the universal praise for the visuals, would you guys say it might be a good idea for Nintendo to do another cel-shaded Zelda for the Wii U? I mean one from the ground up, with models and textures built from scratch.
Depends on the kind of cel-shading. More detailed textures, not this sparse stuff seen here in Wind Waker.
@Shadowlink Do you even have this game? The HD one? Or are you just here to troll us? Do you even like Nintendo?
Man, me and my bro send eachother pics of this game all the time throughnournpnones (wow that phone typo is so good I'm gonna leave it there). The blurry phone pics don't do enough justice, but still manage to look gorgeous. I keep meaning to post my awesome Miiverse pics up here, I just keep forgetting! Some really nicely composed shots and such. Some really nice close ups of Link.
