The game doesn't release at retail till early October, but gamers can begin playing this title soon if they buy a special edition Wii U next week. That said, Welcome to the official discussion thread for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD! Whether you're someone who played and beat this game back in 2003, or maybe you're new and eager to get your Link wet, come here to discuss the game!

IGN.com just released their review and I believe that makes it the first review score for the title. What did they give it? You might not be surprised, but you can look at their review here. For the lazy,... 9.8/10

I have fond memories of picking the original game up from my non-standard Gamestop the night before release. They opened the doors at 10pm and let us get the game early just as the box literally arrived. I don't understand why things went down like that but I was always proud that I was nerdy enough to have been the first person to leave that Gamestop with Zelda that night. Now, I have it pre-ordered at another Gamestop, my normal one, because I want that badass statue offer. As Carlosrox continues to point out, the game looks beautiful and now that I've had an awesome Samsung HDTV for a little less than a year now, I am excited to finally embrace HD with Zelda and see how beautiful this game is at 40 inches and 1080p.

Bring it on Nintendo. I have what it takes.

If you are up and want to watch a pro WW speedrunner play and test out glitches, CosmoWright is currently doing a 24 hr stream and it's rather interesting what they changed and what they didn't in regards to glitches. Looking forward to seeing how the speedrunning community reacts to this.

Waiting for the physical copy with the Ganondorf figurine, so I have to wait a couple weeks. I'm psyched for it though. Because of circumstances at the time, Wind Waker is the one console Zelda game that I've never played.

It's been a while since I played, but I think it used to be that every time you got one of those butterfly pendants, Link held it up and a dialog box popped up. Any news on whether that's changed? I'm praying that some day Team Zelda realizes how annoying that is.

Started the download this morning at 7:30, when I left at 8 the game was already installed. Why can't Sony have these speeds?! Will either play during my lunch break or after work this evening. It's going to be raining all weekend so I won't be distracted...aside from GTA V D:

Does the game run at 60fps?

@PogueSquadron
I think it's 30FPS, not sure if 1080P or 720P.

EDIT: I may attempt to speedrun this. Will have to play it first but I think this would be a fun game to run. Always wanted to speedrun a Zelda game and looks like Celda will be the one.

@PogueSquadron
I'm pretty sure it's 1080p 30 fps.

@Jargon Strangly, he doesn't do that in wind waker. When you pick a pendant or similar item up, it plays a jingle and floats above Link's head, but you can still control him and there's no dialogue box (as long as you've gotten that item before).

I am waiting for my physical copy to arrive.

I'm trying not to think about this game until the physical version is released.

And failing miserably.

I like that I had it downloaded and was playing it on the 19th. I broke the street date! Yay time zones!

This game is more wonderous than even I imagined.

Everything is so damn gorgeous. Controls so well. I was in gaming nirvana last night, taking 2 hours before I even left the island. It felt like seeing Mario 64 for the first time. The world is so immersive and alive. So animated and charming. I always liked Wind Waker, but it took time for me to appreciate it more. Been years since I played it or even turned it on, so like Aunoma said, this will be nearly a new experience for me. My memory of the game is surprisingly fuzzy, and I like it that way.

I can't believe I am so completely floored by the first 5 mins of the game, I can't imagine what the rest will feel like. I felt the joy of being a kid playing this again. Kids must be losing their minds over this game....

I consider this the realization of a dream for me. Nintendo done goddamn good. I will cherish this gift from them.

@carlosrox

Your posts are an oasis of freshness.

I mean it, everyone everywhere is so damn jaded...

Grr, I wish the physical version came out today. Girlfriend wants to play it and it's her birthday this week-end.

Is Wind Waker really a good candidate for a Zelda noob? I'd like for my wife to play a Zelda game, I thought about Phantom Hourglass but I think she'd prefer a console game. What's more accessible, Wind Waker or Skyward Sword?
09/20/13, 20:32
Maybe a 2D title is best? Karen is finishing up A Link to the Past right now. She likes adventure and puzzles, but kind of hates mazes. Still, she's enjoying it a lot, although she does get frustrated in dungeons.

I dunno. I say explain the differenves and ask her what she'd prefer, and whatever she ends up choosing, don't hesitate to offer advice when she's stuck and asks for it. Back in the day, pretty rare were the people who got through those games without any help at all from friends or magazines.

And refrain from picking up the controller to get through a tough spot for her. Let her have that experience of finally triumphing over a tough boss or section.

@anon_mastermind

My wife got pretty frustrated in ALttP in terms of combat. It's sort of hard to say if she'd like a 3D Zelda more though. TWW is "easier" combat-wise, but if your wife doesn't have much experience with navigating 3D space in games (complete with learning camera control), it could still be tricky.

Either way, I'd say TWW is more accessible than SS for a Zelda noob.
09/20/13, 20:45
@anon_mastermind Don't have her play PH or she will never play a Zelda game ever again.

WW seems like a fairly good place to start. Minish Cap is arguably a better choice since there's a lot of hand-holding, it's easier, less polarizing, the world is smaller, it has a less obtrusive gimmick, and it feels kind of like a mix of 2D and 3D zelda games- as weird as that sounds.
