I've started MMX2! This is actually the SNES game that I have the least experience with. I actually never played it until the Mega Man X Collection came out. I had three complete save files when I started this run, though, so I guess I've played it at least three times before.

The music's definitely a step down, and for better and worse the bosses are already trending towards the bizarre (not quite Tornado Tonion, but getting there), but it has some nice additions too. I like the Double X Buster upgrade quite a bit, and the X Hunters are a nice extra. I've got two more Mavericks to go before the Hunter Fortress, but so far I'd put X2 slightly below the original as an overall package. Still time to rise above it, though.

@nate38

I don't think it'll rise above it. X (to me) is FAR superior to X2.

I do hear what you've heard a lot though, how much better X2 is than X.
I have no idea what those people are thinking (save the Double Buster and Playable Zero for 2 seconds.).

X2 complete. I totally forgot you don't get to fight Zero if you get all his parts...damn it, that's the best part of the game! And maybe the Sigma stages are disappointing in every game, because these ones were just as bad as those in the first game. In fact, they were eerily similar in style, layout, and obstacles. The bosses were a bit better, but not much.

I'd say the original edges X2 a bit, but the difference is almost nil. I guess that's a knock on X2 because it seems very content with being basically the same thing all over again, even by Mega Man standards.

I suppose I'll hit X3 at some point this month. It always was my favorite, and the one I played the most. Unfortunately the Gamecube Collection has the PlayStation version of X3, which had a (poorly) arranged soundtrack instead of the punchier SNES sound samples, and a very weird SFX/BGM balance where all the sound effects are super loud.

X2 is awesome. X is probably superior, but X2 really grew on me.

Mega Man X is the best of that particular series, IMO. Nothing has topped it, yet.

Got the Golem Stone in Shantae. Other than, at times, being completely lost when I play, I am enjoying the challenge. I have five hearts right now...how many are there total?

Wow, unless I'm missing something, the game has just outdone itself with terrible design choices. When I got to the fourth dungeon, I looked around the same screen to see if there was a save spot as there had been near previous dungeons. There was one down a nearby cliff. After saving, though, I realized that there was no way to get back up the cliff. So now I have to warp back to the nearest town and walk back, completely destroying the point of having a save spot there. I really hope there's something I'm not realizing. If I don't find a way to get up to the dungeon, I've decided I'm done with this game. Hardly anyone else is playing and it's just not worth my time.

@Jargon

Welp, somebody voted enough so SOMEONE must be playing besides you. (Like Ludist..right above you..)

I'm not going to play it, but I haven't started Mega Man X (again) yet either. Sorry, bud.

I'm playing Shantae too! Just kind of slowly, because I'm focusing more on Earthbound when I'm at home, so I kind of only play Shantae during breaks at work and such.

Well the design was as bad as I feared. No way to get back there.

But I sucked it up and did it. Blah. The dungeon was fine as usual and I got a power that should at least make getting around easier.

I think I'm in the home stretch so I'll just go for it, I suppose.

@ludist210

No idea, but I only have 4 still. Perhaps in spoiler text you could direct me to the other one you found.

Cleared the third dungeon. The game design is a little archaic design-wise (it was much better in Risky's Revenge), but I'm still enjoying it.

@Jargon

I've got six hearts now. Based on how the item screen is laid out, I'm assuming there are ten total. The ones I found are listed below in spoliers. Let me know if you have one I don't.

1. Scarecrow Field on the pillars. Need the monkey.
2. Spider Forest. The slick slope on both sides? Get the spider and climb up to the middle, it's up there.
3. Somewhere in the desert/wasteland with all the Nagas. There's a ladder there and the heart is in plain sight, but a motion sensor gate shuts before you can get to it. Use vanishing cream and walk right through it to nab it.

Downloaded Shantae last night. Will probably play it today.

I really like the first three MMX games a lot. When the series moved to the PSX, it really started slipping (although X4 wasn't bad either).

X (amazing) > X2 (great) > X3 (very good) >> X4 (good) >>>> X5 (iffy) >>>>>>> X6 (atrocious)

I hear X7 is even worse than X6, and I'm curious how that could be possible.

@TriforceBun

But amazingly, X8 is supposedly good. Not great like X and X2, but better than X6 and X7 good. I almost wish they were all on PSN so I could give them all a spin.

@ludist210 I tried X8. One level was a terrible Star Fox knockoff. Another was an awful speeder bike race. The third was more of a puzzle platformer with instant death when you are incorrect.

Mega Man X6 was a crappy game, but at least it was a crappy Mega Man X game. I spent an hour playing X8 and only the ten minute intro level played like Mega Man (and it wasn't exactly good, either).

Well I beat Shantae. Yea...

@ludist210

Thanks. Yea, you had the only one that I found.

I didn't even think to use an item in that cave.

@TriforceBun

*sigh* I still have to finish (and start) X5 and X6 on my X Collection. Dreading it.
09/13/13, 01:41
Everyone should play Mega Man X. That game is phenomenal.
09/13/13, 03:27
@GameDadGrant

Thats what I told Zero! "Already played it." So? SO?!
09/13/13, 04:02
@GameDadGrant

I played it for the first time within the last couple of years and I wasn't too impressed. Nothing compared to the NES games.
