Beaten the 8 Mavericks so far. Trying to track down the rest of the collectibles before taking on Sigma. Loving the game a lot more than the classic MM games so far.

Some of these upgrades are not clear on how to get them at all. For example: Sub Tank in Spark Mandrills stage uses a weapon to get it in a way you never use that weapon for. Sure it encourages experimentation but it wasn't clear at all that it would do that. Trying to get the Heart Tank on that same level uses a jumping technique that the game tells you nothing about at all.

Still, controls are tight, tighter than the other MM games and works better to. Easier to control and still precise.

I'm going to start it either tonight or tomorrow, I'm finishing up DuckTales for te second time.

Just finished the intro level. It's been years since I've played the original SNES version. I've played the PSP version, which is really good. I like how X controls so much more smoothly than Mega Man.

Just defeated Chill Penguin. He was quite difficult for a first boss. It took me a few tries to "get" his pattern.

Just defeated Spark Mandrill. He was pretty easy to defeat with the Ice Shotgun. That bubble midboss gave me trouble, though.

Just beat Chill Penguin and Flame Mammoth. Even though I've completed this game at least 3 times, it seems that I've forgotten how fun Mega Man X is, because I'm really having a good time.

Does anyone have any advice for the miniboss in Spark Mandrill's stage? No matter how many times I beat this game, he still gives me a hard time.

Armored Armadillo was pretty easy. Launch Octopus was a huge bitch. I guess it's easier to defeat him with the boomerangs.

Storm Eagle and Sting Chameleon weren't as hard as I remembered. Time to head back to some previous levels for upgrades.

Edit:

Getting the last of the items before taking on Sigma.

Finished Mega Man X last night. That wasn't a problem, I played that game to death when I was in Middle School. I'll start working on Shantae later this week.

Beat the game, 100%. Really really enjoyed it, a whole bunch more than the older MM games. I WANT MORE. Is X2 on the VC? I may have to pick it up sometime...

@Pokefreak911

On the Wii, but not the Wii U (yet). X2 was my favorite of that series that I've played.

Shantae is pretty fun but a little slow. I guess I should be getting some upgrades at some point. The graphics are and animation are outstanding for a GBC game.

Storm Eagle and Armored Armadillo vanquished. The game has a different feel when you go through it without getting the dash boots right away, which I don't think I've ever done before. But even without jetting through the levels, they seem a lot shorter than I remember.

Storm Eagle pushed me off the edge once, and Armored Armadillo killed me while I was experimenting to see when he could be hit. Guy's a bullet sponge, that fight took like five minutes.

EDIT

Sting Chameleon and Spark Mandrill done. Compared to the previous two, these guys are glass cannons. Spark Mandrill especially does a lot of damage on attacks that are tougher to avoid, but he goes down pretty quickly.

EDIT 2

Flame Mammoth was pretty easy, but Boomer Kuwanger was a bit of a pain. I clung to the walls and let the Rolling Shield take care of most of his health. The maverick weapons are pretty useful in this one, I have to say. I need to get over my buster-only inclinations and branch out more often.

EDIT 3

Damn, Launch Octopus is pretty tough without the dash boots. I'm not sure how to escape his life-sucking attack either, I was mashing buttons but he still drained me completely from 75% health once. Chill Penguin is much more manageable. Now to go back and get all the items I missed.

EDIT 4

Hadouken acquired.

Defeat Storm Eagle first, then go to Spark Mandrill's stage. The stage will have lost power, so the mini-boss will have no attacks (other than running into X physically).

Easy-peasy.

"Why X?

Why you done this to us?"
RIP Sigma, you will be missed :(

"The war has ended for now and peace has been restored. But those sacrificed themselves for the victory will never return."
RIP Zero, I can't believe our time together was so short :(

EDIT: OMFG AFTER THE CREDITS HOLY CRAP SIGMA LIVED, HOWWWWWWW????

@nate38

Froze his own head, Walt Disney style.

Not sure why, but the game just isn't as good as I remember. Maybe because it ends so flat. Sigma's fortress was especially disappointing. I'm not sure I like spreading the boss rush through the first three stages, and the stages themselves are utterly forgettable corridors. The three stage-end bosses were really dull, and Sigma himself was too easy to exploit.

And this might be an issue with the wonky Gamecube port (Mega Man X Collection), but the music and sound seemed much weaker and the colors too dark and dull.

Still like the game, obviously, but I dunno. I may check out X2 and X3 sometime this month to see if they have more frills. I remember liking them better than the first. I always did prefer the 8-bit classics, though.

@nate38 I was actually thinking that I was enjoying the game, but not the music. It just doesn't have that awesome Mega Man feel.

What the? Mega Man X has freaking amazing music!
