Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate coming to PS3 and XBOX360 10/31/13

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate is coming to PS3 and XBOX 360 on Octoboer 31st, 2013. No mention of a Wii U version. I haven't bought it yet, so I guess I'l wait and see how this version turns out before taking the plunge.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate, which originally came out on Nintendo 3DS earlier this year, is being re-released in HD on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The game's publisher Konami announced the news on the game's official Facebook page. The game is a direct sequel to Lords of Shadow, which came out on current-gen consoles in 2010 and was something of a reboot for the long-running gothic adventure series. The HD version will be coming to PSN and Xbox Live Arcade, rather appropriately, on October 31st.

Does this mean we could see the game coming to other platforms in the future? When asked about the possibility of a PC version, the producer of the franchise, Dave Cox, said on Twitter, "No announcement today but we are seriously looking into it." But he seemed less optimistic about a possible Vita version, adding "we have no plans for a Vita version."

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is expected for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC in November. IGN will be seeing more of the game at Gamescom later this week.

Until Wii U sales improve I will not be surprised or angry if third party games come out on all consoles but Wii U. If by this time next year though it hasn't changed...well...

Even if Wii U sales pick up in the next year or two, I think it will still be difficult for 3rd parties to come out with games on Wii U. By that time, not only will sales of the console have had to SKYROCKET like none other, but new IPs would have to appear. Games coming out now will have their install base on the XBone and PS4, which doesn't leave much for the Wii U.

In order for 3rd parties to be anywhere near relevant on Nintendo's latest console, Nintendo will have to nurture their own relationships with 3rd parties to get exclusive games. Much like how they've done with The Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, ZombiU, LEGO City: Undercover and Sonic: The Lost World.

IMO, anyway.

I think it's only going to get worse as more projects shift to PS4/Xbone and leave the PS3/360 behind. Also, if games like CoD, AC4 and Watch Dogs do better on PS4 and Xbone than Wii U this fall despite the smaller install bases, I wonder how long even Activision and Ubisoft are going to bother with anything other than licensed games.

I doubt PS4 and XBONE will be smash hits day 1 and considering their line-up of games for launch and launch window aren't exactly exciting...

True, but they're pretty much guaranteed to easily move the first few million units they can get out there regardless. But if for example, there are 2 million PS4s, 2 million Xbones, and 5 million Wii Us at the end of this year, but those games sell 400 K each on the PS4/Xbone and 100K on Wii U, I think there's going to be a lot of doubt about whether or not it's worthwhile to stick with bothering to support Wii U.

Agreed. I'm getting the feeling that the Wii U will be pretty much an entirely one-off exclusive 3rd party games machine. Not much of those multi-platform games will hit Nintendo's console. Which isn't an entirely bad thing IMO. That was pretty much how the Wii was.

Third parties always have time to bring their Nintendo games to PS3/60, but never the other way around. It's really annoying.

I would totally just buy a PS3 but I already plan to buy an HD system (Wii U) and there is no excuse why so many third party games couldn't be on that platform. So why should I have to shell out hundreds of dollars and clutter up my entertainment center even more just because third parties are [whatever the explanation is for them ignoring a major video game company's platforms].
I would love to only own one console too, this is why I was upset to learn that Wii U was going to follow in Wii's footsteps in terms of being underpowered and behind the competition, we all know how that worked out for them last gen in terms of 3rd party support.

If I were to grossly generalize, my take away is that mediocre efforts on the Wii sold generally well, and poor efforts sold generally mediocre. Hardly a proper test of whether or not flagship, non-gimped efforts would sell on a Nintendo platform.

@deathly_hallows

I agree with you. I wish Nintendo had just made the Wii U so powerful* that it eliminated that bullsh!t excuse. However, ultimately, it's never been anything more than an excuse. A lot of these games could have appeared in some decent form on Wii or Wii U, but just don't. Can you get a reasonable version of RE5 running on the NES? No. Could you get a reasonable version running on the Wii? Yes. Evidence: all first-party titles, Xenoblade, RE4, etc... Would that game have sold better than some RE rail shooters**? Yes.

*of course, when the console tech gets that strong then it becomes a lot riskier of an investment. Which is why Nintendo is not in any real danger while Sony and MS would be in some hot water if they survived only on their games divisions.

**having played RE5, RE:UC and RE:DC, my assessment is that even though RE5 would have sold better (flagship title appeal, not an over-saturated genre), the rail-shooters were actually far superior games!

Resident Evil 5 was sort of based on the multiplayer though, and even on PS3 / 360 they had to make the playable area smaller than usual to pull off split-screen, so I doubt they could have done much for a Wii version outside of make it single player only. And single player only Resident Evil 5 would suck.

@NinSage

Okay....I....guess? What are you getting at? I apologize, I'm a bit confused.

Some "flagship" games sold pretty well on Wii, IIRC. I seem to recall the Guitar Hero series in general selling very well on Wii. In particular, Guitar Hero 5 on Wii outsold the same version of the game that appeared on the PS3 and 360. Again, IIRC.

But generally speaking, those multi-platform, "flagship" titles that came to Wii were always going to be gimped in some way, one way or another. Just by virtue of the Wii being so much less powerful, a less-featured online infrastructure, or just simply by not being in HD. The exclusive games are what were the best examples of quality 3rd party software on Wii, and I think generally speaking, they sold pretty well.

Which, if that's what happens on Wii U, I think that's cool.
