This firmware update gives North American users the new StreetPass Mii Plaza, and the opportunity to download the new StreetPass games.

Go to System Setttings, and select System Update to get the latest goodies!

From Nintendo:

Version 6.1.0-12U available via wireless Internet connection includes the following improvements:
Changes to StreetPass Mii Plaza:

The option to update StreetPass Mii Plaza is now available from the Streetpass Mii Plaza menu
Updating StreetPass Mii Plaza will provide new features, such as the ability to change your Mii character's expression and the ability to purchase new StreetPass Mii Plaza games*
*The ability to update within StreetPass Mii Plaza and purchase paid content is only available to users in regions where the full version of the Nintendo eShop is available.

Improved system stability and usability:

Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

The four new games are as follows:

- StreetPass Squad (Find Mii-like but in space)
- StreetPass Garden (Own a house, grow a garden)
- StreetPass Battle (Build a StreetPass army to conquer the world)
- StreetPass Mansion (Solve a mystery in a haunted house)

The 3DS StreetPass games cost $4.99 each, or $14.99 if you buy the four of them together.

Streetpass games are $4.99 each or $14.99 for all four.

Tempting, especially since this weekend is ConnectiCon and I could actually get some Streetpasses, but in general I think they're too rare to be worth it.

@Jargon
Agreed. Right now I'm full of Meh, but the day before GenCon starts, I'll be seriously reconsidering.

@Jargon

I'm hoping that once the Fall update hits where data is stored at Nintendo Zones and then shared as StreetPasses makes these games worth it. But even then, having to go out of my way to collect them might be a hassle so I don't know if I'd even bother. Rarely getting them as it is makes me think it wouldn't really do much in this small town. I always feel that there's probably a decent amount of 3DSs out there but that no one takes them out or is aware of StreetPasses and how they work.

@-JKR-

When you're in the new StreetPass plaza, just talk to one of the bunny's and they'll ask if you want an explanation for the game, or if you want to buy it.

I'm moving to another city, will have to test out the streetpass waters there to see if it's worth it to invest in these games.

I'm going to buy them all, I get 1 or 2 street passes per day in NYC, maybe 3 or 4 on a good day or if I go to a Best Buy or GameStop.

This would have been a great update LAST week, before I went to Disney World

I'll probably download them at some point. Maybe before the Chicago meet-up, there's probably a decent amount of StreetPassing in Chicago, right? I mean, not even counting NWers.

I found that the StreetPass counter got a small upgrade, too. Before, when you met someone 99 times, that's when the counter would stop. For the 100th, 101st, etc time you StreetPassed someone, the counter would always say that you've met "99 times now." But with the update, I've "met" someone for the 100th time. Looks like we'll have a (slightly) better idea of how many times we'll have StreetPassed the people we know, now.

Also, is it me, or did the frame rate get a huge bump in the Plaza? Everything seems to be running so much smoother now...

Got 5 streetpasses today, so I figured it was a sign I should get these. I won't get too into details on my phone here, but they're fun. Monster Manor and the shmup are actually fairly meaty. The Risk-like game is a bit simplistic but still fun. I had very little to do in the Flower one, I sure hope there is more to it than just plants growing as you get streetpasses.

So the general word is it is worth getting them all?

Who am I kidding, I'd get them all anyway even if everyone kept saying they sucked. I've already finished all Find Mii and Find Mii II paths, and I don't like spending coins on Puzzle Quest.

@Zero

You may as well get them all, since 3 out of 4 of them are worth the $5 asking price, and the one that isn't you get for free if you buy them all at once.
