Hmm, it's tough to explain but there was a point in my life where I essentially lived online. Went to work, came home, jumped right online, only took small breaks for food/exercise/etc. and got right back on until bedtime. And then weekends were even worse, because I sat on ALL DAY. At least at this time my job wasn't a computer job (although I still managed to get a few hours online a day at that job...)
My brother used to say I was stuck in the Matrix. And it definitely felt like an addiction, because I'd get all nervous when I had been away from the Internet for too long (not that that happened very often).
And then I started working in computers and it was worse because I was in front of a computer all day at work, just to come home and get online, and basically my life became sitting in front of a computer or sleeping.
Long story short I *sort of* broke the addiction... now I only spend 3 or 4 (or 5) hours online a day and then I do other things. Except you know, the days I work, where I'm basically online most of the day still. But I'm only working 2 days a week right now, and doing grad school and such other days.
Basically, I'm so fucking burnt out on computers. Part of why I'm going to grad school is to change fields, because I know I'm going to end up online a lot at home, so I'd prefer to be completely away from it at work. But anyway, anything that gets me away from computers is a good thing. Yes, even video games. They're essentially the same idea, but at least I can lay back in a chair and sit 10 or 15 feet away from the screen and focus on one thing without having 10 different windows open and not worry about new posts or checking my mail or whatever. And when I'm away from computers, I hate feeling like I'm getting pulled back towards them. So games that require a huge social element on forums, or games that are confusing and have me gamefaqs-ing a lot, etc. are kind of a turn off. I prefer stuff I can sit down and make progress solo without even acknowledging that this thing called the Internet exists.
PS. I don't really count online gaming as part of the problem because it's not a computer. As stated above, I get to sit back, relax, etc. plus I can focus on one thing at once... |

@SimbabbadHow can I avoid it if I've already stepped in it? Oh well. @CRISIS heartsYou think the game can't be spoiled, so apparently it can't. What is different than saying "you have to watch out for Rathian because it can poison you. Theres a tail attack that take a lot of damage, it spits fire, and it can pin you to the ground" and revealing where the 2nd Star/Whatever is in Mario Galaxy? Oh, because "you guys" say so? Got it. Thanks for clearing it up. @ZeroI also hate the internet. A lot. I get more and more annoyed by it daily. My tolerance for IGN's community is completely gone, with the occasionaly stop by the WiiLobby Community Thread to say "hey, who got Arc Rise Fantasia?" I haven't been back for the answer. @anon_mastermindSounds good, pal-e-o! I'm glad I could help out last night with that jerk. Vicious fake out! Lets get some more of those 2-Star guys taken care of! I can play for a little bit tonight, not TOO long. I'll check back later.. |

@CRISIS heartsNo one specifically said that, but I'm made to feel that way: "God, you don't know anything about history." "ITS A THREAD ABOUT THE GAME." "There are 50+ pages." "The game can't be spoiled." Ugh, enough is enough, gimme an F'n break. A Rathian has been in all of what games? I've never seen it before. Street Fighter boss? I don't play Street Fighter, and I'm not in the threads. Yeah, its weird, I post in threads of games that I play or am planning to play. How are you spoiled by looking at an in-game Monster List? You CREATE the list when you see them.... Yeah, its weird! When playing the game alone, the first time you even hear about a creature is when you come face to face with it, or the mission opens up for you. Imagine that. Congratulations on telling everyone about the Rathian at length. Thats nice of you. The two guys in this thread besides myself who are actively playing the game more than likely haven't even seen one yet. HR9 and HR5 respectively. Solid. How is the game going to be spoiled by people I'm playing online with? I don't know how stuff works on the almighty PSP, but here on the Wii you play with guys working on the same stuff as you are. You CAN play with people farther ahead than you, but I personally don't do that. Why would I want to? The game is Monster "Hunter," not "Hear stories from other players about Monsters." I want to discover it for myself -- I'm a MAN! I know you guys think I'm being a giant asshole about everything (or maybe you thought that before this thread, whatever), but I really COULD be a giant asshole and spoil tons of crap for everyone on other threads. I don't, because thats not me. You guys see NOTHING WRONG with doing it here, on this specific game, and thats just wrong. Perhaps I'll go speak candidly about Arc Rise Fantasia before other people get it. It came out a week ago, so surely EVERYONE has had a chance to play it, yes? I'll offer some "tactics" and ideas for fighting specific creatures, and maybe I'll tell you explicitly how to increase your chances of stealing an item instead of experimenting and finding out on your own. My tales of giant beasts will get you excited for the game if you haven't played it yet! I gave the most thorough mini-review of that game, and offered ZERO spoilers. It can be done. --Theres another thing that pisses me off; why do people always write things like "OMG, spoilerz!!!1" No one does that crap! -- I've never done that! I know you didn't do the whole "!!!1" thing, but why not. Those go hand in hand for hyperbole posters. I don't think I've ONCE wrote "OMG" or anything ending with a "z" that would otherwise have an "s." If you're going to make fun of me, at least do it correctly. You should've wrote something like "thats balls!" or "that stinks out loud!" or "awesome!!" or "wooo!" The more things change, the more they stay the same. (totally non-specific blanket statement) |
