On March 31st, 2016 My Nintendo premiered in North America and Europe. This is the day when My Nintendo Picross: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess first became available in those areas.

The game is 45 puzzles themed on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. You can beat them normally or take them on in the special Mega Picross mode. The game is only available through Nintendo's new My Nintendo service. The game is currently only available until 10/1/2016 at 4 AM EST

More Information can be found here.

I just downloaded this. My first download from the My Nintendo line. Interesting enough, the way it eats your Platinum points is unique.

I had 565 Miitomo Platinum and 710 regular Platinum. When I bought it, I though maybe 500 would come from each, splitting the difference. However… I now have 140 Miitomo Platinum and 135 regular Platinum. So only 425 points came from Miitomo and 575 came from regular Platinum. I wonder what drove that? The only thing that might make sense right now is the fact that now my Miitomo and regular Platinum points are about even. As close to even as you can get. I suppose it does that. Not that this affects anything much but I'm pleased that while there's two ways to earn Platinum, right now there's no indication that either Platinum is used for only certain stuff. They just differentiate how you got them.

Oh, and the other cool thing was how after redeeming, the code didn't need to be entered. I was able to easily push it to my 3DS on file without issue. How awesome is that!?

I don't really have a favorite picross game because they feel so interchangeable. I played Twilight Princess first and then worked my way backwards through the numbered games. Maybe TP is my favorite because it was themed around a game I like. But Picross e8 through e5 blend together in my mind, even if they might add some macross features or something as time goes on. 3D picross is different of course, but the 2D stuff is all indistinguishable.

I do have a least favorite though. It's that shitty free to play pokemon picross on 3DS.

What's your guys' favorite Picross game? How was Picross 3D? The next evolution, or a fun-but-less-elegant spin-off?

Honestly, my favorite Picross game might be Mario's Picross on Game Boy, but that was the first one I really played. So it's likely nostalgia is clouding my rational judgment since I have also played the sublime Picross DS and that game is fan-freaking-tastic.

Picross 3D is fun, too! Less straight-forward that the "normal" 2D game, but it is still a lot of fun.

And yeah, I guess this Twilight Princess variation was kind of an odd duck, but then again it's Nintendo. Isn't this the kind of thing we should expect from them? Like, it's weird, but that is SO Nintendo.

What about Murder by Numbers? The same good picross mechanics as the Jupiter-made games, except now the puzzles are wrapped up in a Phoenix Wright-esque story, and the score is composed by the Phoenix Wright composer!

It's near the top of my "best Picross games" list if simply because of the catchy music, a definite weakness of the Jupiter games.

@Guillaume Whoa, I'm definitely going to check that out. I'm sure I've seen the game's title in places, but never looked into what it actually was. Phoenix Wright + Picross sounds like a solid combo.

How have I never heard about this before?? I'm with @nate38, gonna have to check it out!

We only just found out that the Picross S games have simultaneous two player co-op! Very cool, even if our cursors bump heads a little. I know this doesn't have to do with any of the aforementioned games, but it's a pretty fun way to play the game.

This is only sort of related, but this 25 minute long video of a guy solving a sudoku puzzle is way more entertaining than it sounds:

His reaction makes me happy

@Secret_Tunnel Haha that was great. His turnaround from "this is unsolvable" to "what we're seeing is absolute magic" is priceless.

Watched it last night with the girlfriend, it was surprisingly entertaining!

BTW, bumping this page didn't just expose Nate to Murder by Numbers, it also got me to play though Picross Twilight Princess again, lol.

Wow, I loved that. I went in knowing very little about sudoku and not really caring, but his excitement was infectious. It was interesting from a game design perspective in the way that puzzle unfolded, but also in the way this guy almost immediately busted through the boundaries he'd set up for himself.
